THE RITE OF
MARRIAGE
INTRODUCTORY RITES

Commentator: Good afternoon, brothers and sisters. Today, we gather as a community to

participate in the Holy Eucharist and to witness the celebration of the Sacrament of
Marriage between Sherwin and Abbie. Let us all stand to welcome the Mass
Celebrant, Rev. Fr. Renie Oliver.

Priest: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All:

Amen.

Priest: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the
communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

All: And with your spirit.

Priest: Dear brothers and sisters, we are gathered to celebrate the Holy Eucharist and to
witness the Sacrament of Marriage between Sherwin and Abbie. As their Christian
Family, we remind them that they are called to a life of holiness and fidelity
as husband and wife. Let us rejoice with them and ask God’s blessing for their and
their future children.

PENITENTIAL ACT

Priest: Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to
celebrate the sacred mysteries.

All: I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly
sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have
failed to do, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I asked the
Blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and
sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Priest: May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to
everlasting life.

All: Amen.

Priest: Lord, have mercy. All:

Lord, have mercy. Priest:

Christ, have mercy.

All: Christ, have mercy.

Priest: Lord, have mercy.

All: Lord, have mercy.

THE GLORY

All: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace of people of good will. We praise
you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify, we give you thanks for your great
glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God Almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ,
Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the
sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive
our prayers; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For
you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, your are the Most High, Jesus
Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

COLLECT

Priest: Let us pray. Be attentive to our prayers, O Lord, and in your kindness
uphold what you have established for the increase of the human race, so that the
union you have created between Sherwin and Abbie may be kept safe by your
assistance. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

All: Amen.

Commentator: Please be seated for the Liturgy of the Word.

LITURGY OF THE

WORD FIRST READING

Sirach 26:1-4, 13-16

Reader: A reading from the Book of Sirach, Chapter 26

Blessed the husband of a good wife, twice-lengthened are his days; A worthy
wife brings joy to her husband, peaceful and full is his life. A good wife is a
generous gift bestowed upon him who fears the Lord; be he rich or poor, his heart is
content, and a smile is ever on his face. A gracious wife delights her husband, her
thoughtfulness puts flesh on his bones; a gift from the Lord is her governed
speech, and her firm virtue is of surpassing
worth. Choicest of blessings is a modest wife, priceless her chaste soul. A holy and
decent woman adds grace upon grace; indeed, no price is worthy of her temperate
soul. Like the sun rising in the Lord’s heavens, the beauty of a virtuous wife is the
radiance of her home.

The Word of the Lord

All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Psalm 128:1-2, 3, 4-5

Reader: Responsorial Psalm. Let our response be: “See how the Lord blesses those who
fear him. Please repeat.

All: See how the Lord blesses those who fear him.

Reader: Blessed are you, who fear the Lord,

Who walk in his ways!
For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork;
Blessed shall you be, and favored. Response.

All: See how the Lord blesses those who fear him.

Response: Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine

In the recesses of your home;
Your children like olive plants
Around your table. Response.

All: See how the Lord blesses those who fear him.

Behold, thus is the man blessed who fears the Lord. The
Lord bless you from Zion:
May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem
All the days of your life. Response.

Response: See how the Lord blesses those who fear him.

SECOND READING
Ephesians Chapter 5, Verses 21 to 33

Reader: A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians

Be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives should be

subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord; for the husband is head of his
wife just as Christ is head of the church, he himself the savior of the body.

As the church is subordinate to Christ, so wives should be subordinate to their

husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the
church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the bath of
water with the word, that he might present to himself the church in splendor,
without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without
blemish.

So husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife
loves himself. For no one hates his own flesh but rather nourishes and cherishes it,
even as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body.

"For this reason a man shall leave (his) father and (his) mother and be
joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." This is a great
mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and the church. In any case, each
one of you should love his wife as himself, and the wife should respect her
husband.

The Word of the Lord

All: Thanks be to God.

Commentator: Please all stand to honor the Holy Gospel.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Commentator: God is love; let us love one another as he has loved us. All:

Alleluia, Alleluia.

GOSPEL

Priest: The Lord be with you.

All: And with your spirit.

Priest: A reading from the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. All:

Glory to you, O Lord.

Priest: Some Pharisees approached Jesus, and tested him, saying, “Is it lawful for a man to
divorce his wife for any cause whatever?” He said in reply, “Have you not read
that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female and said, For
this reason a man shall leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So they are no longer
two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not
separate.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

All: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

Commentator: Please be seated and listen to the homily.

HOMILY

Priest: Now, Sherwin and Abbie, please express your vows to each other.

Sherwin and Abbie to declare their vows.

Priest: Now, please recite this prayer:

Sherwin & Abbie: Grant us, O Lord, to be one heart and one soul. From this day forward, for better or
for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.
CONFIRMATION OF THE MARRIAGE BOND

Priest: You have declared your consent before the Church. May the Lord in his
goodness strengthen your consent and fill you both with his blessings.

And I, by the authority of the Church, calling on all those present here as witnesses,
confirm and bless the bond of marriage which you have contracted, in
the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen.

BLESSINGS OF THE RINGS, ARRHAE, AND BIBLE

Commentator: May we ask the Ring Bearer, AM Marasigan, with the assistance of the Best
Man, James Dimaano, to please come forward for the blessing of the rings.

Priest: Sherwin and Abbie, we shall now bless your rings. Our help is in the name of the
Lord.

All: He made heaven and earth.

Priest: Lord, bless these rings, which we bless in your name. Grant that Sherwin and Abbie
may always have a deep faith in each other. May they do your will and always
live together in peace, good will, and love. We ask this through Christ our
Lord.

All: Amen.

Sherwin & Abbie: Lord, bless and consecrate us in our love for each other. May these rings be a symbol
of true faith in each other, and always remind us
of our love, through Christ our Lord.

Sherwin places the ring of Abbie on her ring finger.

Sherwin: Abbie, take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Abbie places the ring of Sherwin on his ring finger.

Abbie: Sherwin take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Commentator: May we ask the Coin Bearer, Geoff Tee, with the assistance of Dick Tee, to
please come forward for the blessing of the arrhae.

Priest: Bless, O Lord, your servants Sherwin and Abbie, with sufficiency of
material possessions that these arrhae symbolize, so that they may use them
to attain eternal life through Christ, Our Lord.

All: Amen

Sherwin: Abbie, I give you these arrhae as a pledge of my dedication and constant concern
for your welfare and that of the children God may, in his goodness, give us. In the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Let this be a sign that our blessings will no longer be held separately but together,
and that whatever gifts they we will have in the coming years are ultimately not
ours but God’s.

Abbie: Sherwin, I accept them, with the promise to share with you the building of a
Christian home. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Commentator: May we ask the Bible Bearer, Cruz Carrillo, with the assistance of John Paul
Carrillo, to please come forward for the blessing of the Holy Bible.

Priest: Holy Father, bless this Holy Bible, the Word of God. May Sherwin and Abbie
read it, live it, seek advice from it, and keep the lessons in their hearts so
that they may live each day in the love and service of the Lord. We ask you this
through Christ Our Lord.

All: Amen.

Priest: And now, as a sign of our joy for and approval of this bond, let us give our newly
married couple, Sherwin and Abbie, a joyful round of applause.

PROFESSION OF FAITH

All: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; I
believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, He was conceived by the
Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose
again. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He
will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the
Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

Priest: Dear brothers and sisters, let us now pray for the Church and for our newly wedded
couple, whose marriage reflects the union of Christ and His Church. For every
petition, we shall say: Lord, hear our prayer.

Reader: Let us pray for our Church, which is the bride of Christ, that she may
always be faithful in her mission of spreading the Good News of our
salvation and Christ’s love for us. We pray.

All: Lord, hear our prayer.

Reader: Let us pray for our government leaders, that they may become God’s
instrument in protecting the family and defending life at all cost. We pray.

All: Lord, hear our prayer.

Reader: Let us pray for all the needs of our brothers and sisters, the sick, the
handicapped, the prisoner, and all those abandoned by their loved ones, that
through their presence in our community we may be enlightened and show our
charity with love. We pray.

All: Lord, hear our prayer.

Reader: Let us pray for Sherwin and Abbie united today in God’s love, founding a new
family in our Christian community. May they become God’s faithful stewards
and collaborators of God in rearing their future children. We pray.

All: Lord, hear our prayer.

Reader: For the parents of Sherwin and Abbie who have given much of themselves to raise
their children in the way God has intended, that He may bless them with good
health and peace of mind and heart. We pray.

All: Lord, hear our prayer.

Reader: For all the married couples here present, that God may stir up the grace of the
Holy Sacrament of Matrimony in them. We pray.

All Lord, hear our prayer.

Reader: Let us pray for young people who will embrace the calling to married life, that they
may learn from the life and experiences of others the beauty of love that comes
from purity, generosity and total commitment of heart. We pray.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.

Reader: Let us pray for our personal intentions, that God’s will be done as He deem fit for
each one of us.

All: Lord, hear our prayer.

Priest: God Our Father, look down with favor upon your servants. Grant them to remain
faithful to you and to each other. At the end of a long and well- spent life,
reward them with eternal happiness, together with their children and all
those who love them, through Christ Our Lord.

All: Amen.

Commentator: Please be seated for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

LITURGY OF THE
EUCHARIST
RITE OF THE CANDLE, THE VEIL, AND THE
CORD

Commentator: Sherwin and Abbie, please kneel.

May we request Edison and Aileen to come forward and light the candles for
Sherwin and Abbie from the Unity Candle.

May we request Arvin and Ros to come forward and place the veil on
Sherwin and Abbie. In baptism, we were clothed in a white garment to
symbolize the new life of purity and holiness to which God has called us. Today
we clothe you again with this garment as you enter into a new phase in your life
with God.

May we request Allan and Charu to come forward and place the cord over the veil
as symbol of God’s love and conjugal unity. Through the symbolism
behind this cord, may your love grow stronger and bind you closer through
the years.

OFFERTORY

Commentator: Those requested to present the offerings are now requested to bring their gifts to the
altar.

The Offertory Chant begins, as the offertory procession take place.

Priest: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we
have received the bread we offer you: fruit of the earth and work of human
hands, it will become for us the bread of life. All:

Blessed be God forever.

Priest: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have
received the wine we offer you: fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it
will become our spiritual drink.

All: Blessed be God forever.

Priest Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters), that my sacrifice and yours may be
acceptable to God, the almighty Father.

All: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his
name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church.

Commentator: Please all stand.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Priest: Receive, we pray, O Lord, the offering made on the occasion of the sealing of the
sacred bond of Marriage between Sherwin and Abbie, and just as your
goodness is its origin, may your providence guide its course. Through Christ our
Lord.

All: Amen.

PREFACE

Priest: The Lord be with you.

All: And with your spirit.

Priest: Lift up your hearts.

All: We lift them up to the Lord.

Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. All:

It is right and just.

Priest: It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give
you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For you have forged the
covenant of marriage as a sweet yoke of harmony and an unbreakable bond of
peace, so that the chaste and fruitful love of holy Matrimony may serve to
increase the children you adopt as your own. By
your providence and grace, O Lord, you accomplish the wonder of this twofold
design: that, while the birth of children brings beauty to the world, their rebirth in
Baptism gives increase to the Church, through Christ our Lord. Through him, with
the Angels and all the Saints, we sing the hymn of your praise, as without the end
we acclaim:

SANCTUS

All: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna
in the highest.

CONSECRATION

Commentator: Please kneel for the Consecration.

Priest: You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore,
these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like dewfall, so that
they may become for us the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the
night he was betrayed and entered willingly into his Passion, he took bread,
and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH
WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and, once more
giving you thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE
CHALICE OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL
COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR
MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

The mystery of faith.

All: We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come
again.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

Priest: Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and Resurrection, we offer
you, Lord, the bread of life and the Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you
have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray
that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, we may be
gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your Church, spread
throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with
Francis, our Pope and Buenaventura our bishop and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the
resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy; welcome them into the
light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed
Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with the blessed Apostles, and all the Saints who
have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be coheirs to eternal
life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.

Priest: Through him, and with him, and in him, O God almighty Father, in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever.

All: Amen.

COMMUNION RITE

OUR FATHER

Priest: At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will
be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and
forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

NUPTIAL BLESSING

Priest: Let us humbly invoke by our prayers, dear brothers and sisters, God’s
blessing upon Sherwin and Abbie, that in his kindness he may favor with his help
those on whom he has bestowed the Sacrament of Matrimony.

All pray silently for a short while. Then the priest extends his hands over the couple and imparts the
Nuptial Blessing.

Priest: Holy Father, who formed man in your own image, male and female you
created them, so that as husband and wife, united in body and heart, they might
fulfill their calling in the world;

O God, who willed that the love of spouses for each other should
foreshadow the covenant you graciously made with your people, may the mystical
marriage of Christ with his Church truly become manifest in the union of husband
and wife among your faithful;
Grant, O Lord, that, as they enter upon this sacramental union, they may share with
one another the gifts of your love and, by being for each other a sign of your
presence, become one heart and one mind.

May they also sustain by their deeds the home they are forming and prepare
their children to become members of your heavenly household by raising them in
the way of the Gospel.

Graciously crown with your blessings your daughter Abbie, so that, by being
a good wife and mother, she may bring warmth to her home with a love that is pure
and adorn it with welcoming graciousness.

O Lord, bestow heavenly blessing also on Sherwin, your servant, that he

may be a worthy, good and faithful husband and a provident father.

Grant, Father, that, desiring to approach your table as a couple joined in Marriage in
your presence, they may one day have the joy of taking part in your great banquet
in heaven.

Through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

SIGN OF PEACE

Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give
you; look not on our sins but on the faith of your Church, and graciously
grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever
and ever.

All: Amen.

Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always. All:

And with your spirit.

Priest: Let us offer each other a sign of peace.

LAMB OF GOD

Priest: Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb
of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
COMMUNION

Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the
word and my soul shall be healed.

Commentator: Please be seated. Those who wish to receive Holy Communion may come
forward.

The priest will give communion to Sherwin and Abbie. Then he gives communion to the people.

Commentator: May we request Arvin and Ros to remove the cord from Sherwin & Abbie.
May we request Allan and Charu to remove the veil from Sherwin & Abbie.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Commentator: Please all stand for the final prayer.

Priest: Let us pray. By the power of this sacrifice, O Lord, accompany with your loving
favor what in your providence you have instituted, so as to make one heart
in love those you have already joined in this holy union and replenished with
one Bread and the one Chalice. Through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

CONCLUDING

RITES ADMONITION

Priest : Sherwin and Abbie, now that you have received the Sacrament of Holy
Matrimony, I admonish you to remain faithful to one another.

Abbie, love your husband and be a good wife to him. Persevere with him in faith,
love, and holiness.

Sherwin, love your wife, as Christ loves His Church, and live with her in the holy
fear of the Lord.

THE FINAL BLESSING

Priest: The Lord be with you.

All: And with your spirit.

Priest: Bow your heads and pray for God’s blessings.

May God the Eternal Father keep you of one heart in love for one another, that the
peace of Christ may dwell in you and abide always in your home.

All: Amen.

Priest: May you be blessed with your children, have solace in your friends and enjoy
true peace with everyone.

All: Amen.

Priest: May you be witnesses in the world to God’s charity, so that the afflicted and
needy who have known your kindness may one day receive you thankfully into
the eternal dwelling of God.

All: Amen.

Priest: And may almighty God bless you all, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy
Spirit.

All: Amen.

Priest: Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life. All:

Thanks be to God.

Priest Let us give the newly-married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Dimaano, a big round of
applause. Sherwin, you may now kiss the bride.

SIGNINING OF MARRIAGE
CONTRACT

Commentator: Please be seated for the signing of the contract and picture taking. Sherwin and
