Muslim of the Philippines


Living directly or indirectly under the shadow of war for nearly four hundred years.

The challenge to integrate Muslims within the modern state of Philippines remains one of
the main political issues for this rapidly developing and emerging nation of predominantly Catholics.

For Mindanao Muslims, the issue is about preserving culture and religious heritage and also
land rights in the face of Christian migration to their islands that has made them a minority in their
own homeland. (Khan, 2016)

Muslim in Davao City

Among the cities in Mindanao, Zamboanga City from Region 9 tops the list of the most
Muslim-populated area with 302,795 followers; this was trailed by Cotabato City (228,036 persons),
City of Isabela (72,182 persons) Davao City (63,127 persons) and General Santos City (51,705
persons).

RESEARCH QUESTION:

 How do a Community helps detaches Stereotyping and Social Stigma?


 In what way can architecture improve societal engagement and interaction?

REVIW OF RELATED LITERATURE (RRL)

• They(muslim) need to seek dialogue with others from across the different equality strands at
the same time as begin open and honest debates about the inequalities and discrimination
that exist within their own communities.

• Central to this will be the building and maintaining of sustainable communities that are
cohesive, integrated and more resilient. (Allen, 2010)

• Congregation can do to stop Islamophobia:


• Learn about Islam, Islamophobia, and the movement to counter Islamophobia.
• Build relationships with the local Muslim community.
• Interrupt Islamophobia
• Stand in solidarity with the Muslim community
• Advocate against anti-Islamic and xenophobic state and federal policies.

OBJECTIVE:
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: mixed methods-QUALITATIVE APPROACH

All session of methods are from four religious institution of islam. Sites were selected
because of ease of access and convinience they have. Lastly, sites were selected based on theoretical
justifications and suggestions from Muslim contacts in the field.

This research is limited on account of the researcher’s identity and methodology

Methods are Interviewing, Participant Observation, Sampling, Naming:

Interviewing: Using of a combination of semi-structured interviewing and observation sessions for


collecting data.
Participant Observation: Visiting muslim community and attending ten Friday Jumu’ah services,
which are the primary weekly religious services for Muslim men, which were reported to have the
most clearly Tagalog, Bisaya or Maguindanaon language services.

Sampling: Practicing Muslims are the sample for this study because they self-identify as Muslim. This
sampling decision simplifies the sampling process by moving the 23 responsibility of discerning the
identities of individuals from subjectively determined assignments by the researcher to objective
religious self-identification by participants.
