Cave paintings are the earliest form of paintings wherein symbols and images are painted in the walls or

ceilings of the cave. The common subject of cave paintings are animals wherein most of animals painted
were wild animals that are already extinct such as cave lions and bears. Though rare, humans was also
the subject of the cave paintings. However, compare to the paintings today wherein mostly a human
painting is very detailed and naturalistic, paintings of such subject is only schematic. It means that the
painting is very simple and does go into specific such that painting the shape of a human with important
parts such as the head, 2 hands, two feet is enough, for the mere reason only to paint it is to show that
the painting is a human. Despite that the human itself as subject is very rare, handprints were also often
found in cave paintings. These kind of paintings is called hand stencil.
