#To measure young modulus ,rigidity modulus and Poisson ratio of

a steel wire by dynamic method of Searle.

Theory: a steel wire is connected between two bars. The oscillatory motion of the bars in the
confined system is associated with the young modulus of the bar through the following equation,
8𝜋𝑙
𝑦= 𝐼
𝑟 4 𝑇𝑏2 𝑏

Where l is the length of the wire r is the radius of the wire , Ib is the moment of inertia and Tb is the
time period along horizontal oscillation .

**Rigidity modulus=
8𝜋𝑙𝐼𝑡
𝜂= 𝑟 4 𝑇𝑡
*It is the moment of inertia, *Tt is the time period of toritional oscillation

1 𝐼 𝑇𝑡2
**Poisson ratio (𝜕) = ( 𝑏 × ) −1
2 𝐼𝑡 𝑇𝑏2

𝑇2
Ib=It=(𝑇𝑡2 − 1)
