TETOLON®® DOME TWEETER
REN®® NEODYMIUM MAGNET
ALUMINIUM CASE WITH CHAMBERS
180 Watt
4 ohm
28 mm
MILLE COMP 91 dB/SPL

1. Tetolon® Fiber dome with hemispheric-hyperbolic profile

for excellent dynamics and off-axis response.
2. Acoustic damping material for very detailed, accurate high
frequency response.
3. CCAW double layer voice coil, wound on kapton former,
for maximum power handling.
4. Double REN® neodymium magnet for utmost control
and acceleration.
5. Rear vents for smooth, natural sound.
6. Rear acoustic chambers for low Fs and flatter,
wider response.
7. Non-woven, natural damping material for better damping
and accuracy.
8. CCN-turned case, derived from solid aluminium,
for a mechanically inert, acoustically transparent structure.

The load in the tweeter dome rear part affects its performance
since the membrane can see a free space in the front, while there
is a back load due to the very small volume between central pole
and dome. ML 280 has eight vents which ensure a resonance-free
matching with the rear damping chambers.
The volumes and vents sizes, as well as the special absorbing
material, provide mobile voice coil with optimal damping,
generating natural, clear, dynamic sound.

Air flows under the dome.

When designing the magnet of a tweeter, it is important

to concentrate energy on mobile voice coil. The mechanical
excursion of this component is very limited, but accelerations
speed is very high. For mobile voice coil very good control,
you need to have high magnetic induction in the gap and to use
first-grade ferromagnetic materials. ML 280 tweeter employs high
thermal threshold, REN® neodymium double magnet and very low
carbon percentage iron, especially designed for it.

4
ML 280 dome has an exclusive profile, designed by HERTZ:
its first section is hemispheric, the top is hyperbolic.
The relation of emitting diameter, membrane height and surround
profile ensures very low Fs without affecting dynamics at mid-high
frequencies. The fiber is Tetolon®, a mixture of cotton and silk
in controlled percentage that, together with the natural resin
impregnating treatment, makes the component go beyond the
audible range, like all stiff dome drivers but without the troublesome
resonances which characterise this technology.

The original building features and the advanced technology applied to ML 280 make it unique.
The colorless reproduction of mid-high frequencies and trebles requires sure, doubtless performance.
ML 280 naturally carries out this hard task, counting on an unlimited power reserve. It is agile when disentangling
itself among the smallest details and resolute when giving the most powerful musical entries. This component is
colorless in any conditions, in favour of music, be it classical or modern, be it made of voices or of live instruments,
or of performance recorded in studios. When it is used with reference woofers in two-way systems, it can
decrease cut-off frequency down to very low ranges, where crossover point is regular and spontaneous.
ML 280 is the best tweeter in terms of efficiency, linearity, frequency response and musicality also in three-way
systems, thanks to the state-of-the-art midrange and to very rich mid-bass.

RIBBON MID-TWEETER
MYLAR SILVER LAYER
REN®® NEODYMIUM MAGNET
ALUMINIUM CASE
180 Watt
8 ohm
117 x 15 mm
MILLE COMP 93 dB/SPL

1. Acoustically transparent aluminium grille.

2. Die-cast aluminium face plate designed for the best
off-axis response.
3. Ultra-light Mylar layer with silver deposit, for extraordinary
flat response at ultrasonic frequencies.
4. Push-pull REN® magnet with 12 Neodymium bars for natural,
thrilling performance.
5. Rubber sealing gaskets for vibrations rejection.
6. Dipolar emission for ideal damping.

The membrane is the only part of a speaker which must play.

That is why utmost attention was paid to the elimination of any
resonance which might spoil acoustic performance.
ML 500R face plate is made of first quality die-cast aluminium
alloy. It’s completely inert and allows the membrane to change
the smallest, most delicate sound tones into acoustic energy.
ML 500R unique feature is acoustic radiation dipolar typology. Due
to the absence of a back load, the membrane can work
in maximum symmetry and with ideal damping.

ML 500R is one of the very few isodynamic ribbon speakers with push-pull
motor section and membrane/magnet innovative geometry. The motor
structure was designed to generate a perfectly symmetrical magnetic field,
in order to eliminate intermodulation distortions and concentrate very high
energy in the gap.
What you get is a component with 6 dB higher efficiency than a traditional
speaker, with excellent dynamics and very high dissipation factor.

8
If you want to obtain the same pressure
you get with ML 500R (93 dB 1W/1m) from
a traditional speaker (87 dB 1W/1m),
you need to use a four-time higher power.
ML 500R bass response is outstanding:
Fs is only 370 Hz and this is an impressive
value for such a compact component.
It makes its versatility and easy use unique.

Frequency response

Most enthusiasts and professionals believe that ribbon speakers can ensure faster transients than traditional cone
drivers, thanks to their very light mobile voice coil. According to these parameters, mid frequency range is a very
difficult load, in terms of importance and of amount of information.
ML 500R can easily carry out this task. Its frequency response can go from 700 Hz to 35 kHz: it is the flattest,
widest response which a midrange can have. ML 500R is quick, dynamic, efficient; its power handling is very
close to the one of a subwoofer. Its warm, natural sound can generate pure listening emotions. Imaging is real,
sound levels location is definite, tridimensionality is very easily conveyed.
When it is used in two-way systems, it has to be perfectly aligned with the listening point. Its response
is excellent in this configuration; however, this speaker performs at best in three-way systems, where
it is naturally integrated with woofer and tweeter, providing no-compromise, state-of-the-art systems.

V-CONE®® WOOFER
REN®® NEODYMIUM MAGNET
ALUMINIUM BASKET
250 Watt
4 ohm
165 mm
MILLE COMP 93 dB/SPL

1. Anti-resonant aluminium alloy basket for accurate, colorless sound.

2. Acoustically transparent basket design.
3. Cotton-injected paper cone for stiffness, lightness and dynamics.
4. Exponential V-Cone®, for utmost linearity and dispersion.
5. S-DWR®, butyl rubber, sinusoidal double wave surround for better efficiency and excursion linearity.
6. Nomex® spider assembled on an anti-compression raised support, for full-bodied, natural sound.
7. Lead wires plastic support with silicone; it can stand hard mechanical stress.
8. CCAW double layer voice coil, wound on Kapton® former, for maximum power handling.
9. Very big, REN® neodymium magnet for bursting dynamics.
10. Copper-covered pole for flat impedance and smooth frequency response.
11. Vented poles for maximum aerodynamic performance at the longest excursions.
12. Lowered bottom plate for better excursion and efficiency.
13. Rubber covered magnet for resonance elimination.

Every element of a speaker contributes to sound reproduction.

The mechanical resonances of a traditional basket, usually between 800
and 1300 Hz (according to mass and stiffness), absorb precious energy
which should be transferred only to the membrane. A completely inert
basket was designed for ML 1600, thanks to the development of a
self-standing structure and to the use of a light, damped aluminium alloy.
This basket has new, unique acoustic transparency; sound is accurate,
without coloration and resonances.

The design and development of MILLE components magnets employed

advanced finished elements modelling (FEM) technologies. ML 1600
motor core is a new sized REN® neodymium ring, especially moulded
for this component. This material uses an innovative rare earths mixture
which provides a huge amount of energy and total thermal stability.
Top and bottom plates employ high saturation level ferromagnetic
material and are machined through a high precision process.
The magnetic flux reaches a value which was inconceivable a few years
ago, providing excellent energy dissipation, very high efficiency and
bursting dynamics.

More than 35 materials, different in terms of paper fibers composition

and impregnating materials, were realised, analysed and evaluated for
ML 1600 cone construction. The selected mixture has good stiffness,
damping and lightness. No other rigid fiber, composite material sandwich
or obtained from metal mould can provide such natural, accurate,
dynamic sound.
ML 1600 “V” CONE® has a totally new, HERTZ proprietary exponential
geometry. Its contact point with mobile voice coil uses a very light paper
support, which optimises mechanical coupling and insures very high
efficiency. This new geometry provides very flat off-axis response, up to
so-far unbelievable frequencies for a component with this diameter,
no break-up phenomena and optimal damping, for rich, accurate sound
in the whole bandwidth.

12
The elaboration of an advanced set of dynamic measurements pointed
out a determinant factor: mobile voice coil inductance modulation,
derived from the winding interaction with central pole and gap. When the
component excursion gets bigger than the voice coil height, there is an
interference which heavily affects FFT, causing strong intermodulation.
ML 1600 magnet geometry, together with central pole complete shielding
through a pure copper plate, provides exceptionally constant parameters
even with high power in the input and at long excursions. You can listen
to totally controlled, accurate musical signal even with very high sound
pressure and to firm dynamics in whatever conditions.

MILLE speakers have full, flat response and don’t need
any equalisations; their location in the car compartment,
however, may involve unpredictable variables. Car is one
of the most complex, difficult surroundings for musical
reproduction and demands the solution to various problems:
the relation between direct and reflected sound, the mutual
position of the speakers in the system. In standard installations,
the Left and Right channels will be at different distances and
angulations with regard to the listening point. This location will
alter the width and the phase of the perceived signal.
MLK is the first to introduce a time delay control system, built
in a passive crossover: TAD® Time Alignment Device. By setting
the proper jumpers in the crossover, the channel response is + 25 ÷ 30 cm
improved with regard to extension, sensitivity and phase, with
the same FFT for the two channels. The perceived sound image
gets in the center of the virtual stage; tonal accuracy gets
colorless, clearer.

If you focus on the components technical features, you risk to lose touch with the most beautiful element of Mille
systems: sound. A state-of-the-art installation, even if simply made in factory locations but with utmost attention
to fixing and vibrations rejection, will enhance musicality. The system main characteristic is clearly perceptible:
superior tonal accuracy. Sound recreates the instruments tridimensionality and makes the listener feel as if he took
part in the musical event. Colorless sound, controlled, full, solid bass impact, very good dynamic reserve which
performs at best when the musical track involves you the most, for blur-free reproduction. ML 280 off-axis
response is perfectly even, as well as its off-axis response; this ensures detailed, clear, definite sound image.
Thanks to the filter efficient action, sound stage gets higher and centered, making voices natural and firm, singling
every element out in the orchestra, easily recreating real, complete, detailed sound.
MLK 2 installation in the car compartment is eased by the woofer standard size (thanks to its neodymium magnet,
it is shorter) and by the tweeter with aluminium structure and differentiated acoustic chambers. Extraordinary
versatility is ensured by the passive filter and by its adjustments. Tuning is spontaneous in any car, since you can
handle the listening position you prefer, the response equalisation, the components efficiency. Simply by moving
the jumpers for the various controls, you can achieve the smoothest response in whatever conditions,
for extraordinary excitement.

speaker or of a multi-channel amplifier
dedicated to the three-way system enhances
acoustic results, since you can tune the levels
independently through gain controls, you can
handle the power reserve of every component

When having everything is not enough, the choice of a three way system gets obvious, necessary. MLK 3 is not
a simple evolution of a two-way system, rather a complete system created to satisfy the most demanding users.
The woofer is quick and clean whenever power is needed; it ensures accurate, full, solid mid-basses conveying,
thus, the instruments stresses. The use of a ribbon midrange, ML 500R, and of ML 280 tweeter allows the system
transparency and naturalness when reproducing male and female voices: their details and tones get lively in the
sound stage center. The piano, which is extremely accurate thanks to its linearity, sounds sweet, even, natural,
and the filter leads the components the way a conductor gives parts and scores to his best players.
Installing a three way system involves very important considerations when designing it; yet, all efforts
are rewarded by MLK 3 superb acoustic performance.

ML 28 tweeter was designed to combine space, light weight and

performance in every system with no compromise. The dome
double profile, hemispherical and hyperbolical, allows to regularize
the component dispersion and get a flat frequency response even
in the most critical installations. The fiber used is a mixture of
cotton and silk in a controlled percentage with a double water-
proof processing; combined with a double neodymium and iron
magnet with a very low percentage of carbon, it performs a very
low resonance and generates a very high range, featuring amazing
energy, detail and impressiveness. The mechanical excursion of
this component is limited, but the acceleration capability is burning.
In the ML 28 motor there are eight ports that connect the tweeter
dome to the rear acoustic chambers, creating the ideal damping
load to eliminate the resonances and extend the sound with
competition dynamics.

Air flows under the dome.

ML 165 woofer features the same technical solutions as ML
1600 with a different goal. The cone fiber made from cellulose
and impregnating materials, the V-CONE profile and the self-
standing anti-resonant aluminium alloy basket are basic essential
elements for a reference speaker. No other mechanical system
can be so stiff, damping and light. The new magnet, with a new
powerful oversize ferrite motor has the suitable characteristics to
ensure a remarkable thermal stability and a bursting dynamics.
ML 165 is the specific component for those who long for the
best performance in terms of impact, speed and dynamics in the
low and mid-low range.

ML Subs look no more like working tools and become reference speakers. The subwoofer has the double
function of completing the ultralow range and arousing real listening sensations. It plays the main role in the
total involvement of music reproduction. The new ML were designed to be used in controlled and small
volumes and making a box means to let them perform at 100%.
Connected to amplifications of suitable power they immediately show their strong determined personality.
Able to fill with vital energy the lower part of the sound faultlessly with an overwhelming “punch”, ML subs
succeed in rendering the original instruments dimensions, stressing the hardest transients and disentangling
the most difficult passages.
Complete and enthralling, they perform seemingly unlimited dynamics, completed by an exemplary tonal
quality, reproducing correctly every different music genre. Thrilling design and performance, impressive look
and power: these subwoofers can turn into bursting sound all the energy output by the amplifier for top sound
performance.

PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Construction
When building a subwoofer box, you’d better care for some
details:
1_ Use a thick material as stiff and dense as possible;
19 mm like MDF or high density multilayer wood.
MIN
2_ Glue and seal all the box walls using good quality
vinyl glue. Use more glue to seal all internal joints.

3_ Use damping material like AZ Audiocomp FONOMAT

on the internal walls.
1 2
4_ Always use the gasket between the basket and the
mounting surface, and use a criss-cross pattern to
firmly secure the fixing screws.

5_ Use at least one slanted wall in order to make the

enclosure fit the car compartment, solve size problems
and decrease the box internal vibrations.
Damping
materials 6_ Consider the speaker overall dimensions when
calculating volumes since it is not included in the
indicated volumes. If you place the magnet speaker
inside the box, add Total driver displacement to the
volume of the box itself.
3 4
7_ In the case of a Reflex (vented), Asymmetric Bandpass
or Double Reflex design, do not add the volume
Tdd = Total driver displacement displacement of tuning port to the total volume.
Only add the volume displacement of the actual material
the port is made from; for example: the volume displaced

9_ If you place the tuning port next to a corner of the

enclosure, shorten it by 25-30% compared to the

simulation. This is because of the virtual extension of
the port being close to the side walls. Do the same if
the port design is lamellar (slot type).
Whenever possible, we recommend you measure the
tuning frequency with a suitable method.

MIN car compartment by changing the port length and, thus,

the acoustic results you want. By shortening the port
Vtrp = Volume tablet reflex port or decreasing the quantity of sound-proof material,
you increase frequency and get clearer, crisper bass;
7 8 vice versa, bass will be deeper but less sharp.

11_ When using two or more speakers in your design, it is
extremely important to use identical models, installed
in the same type of enclosure.
Sub 1 Sub 2 = Sub 1 Sub 3 = Sub 2 etc...
12_ Power cables are very important because they
directly affect the system damping factor. In the
enclosed table, we show cable diameters, which we
recommend according to length and applied power.
Vcc 1 Vcc 2 = Vcc 1 Vcc 3 = Vcc 2 etc... The table refers to continuous power into 4 ohm load.
When load decreases, the cable size will have to
proportionally increase.
11
13_ Make sure the entire enclosure assemble is solidly
and safely mounted to the vehicle’s chassis.

Tuning
After you finish installing the enclosure in your vehicle,
it is recommended to spend some time to tune the system
and its amplifiers. Remember that a small power amplifier
driven into full distortion can damage a speaker. On the
contrary, a very powerful amplifier with a linear operation
rarely causes system failures:
12 13 A_ Adjust the amplifier gain control to make use of all
the amplifiers undistorted power.

The ML Subwoofers electro-acoustic parameters are optimized for use in an enclosure. In this manual we have provided the specifications for two different sealed
and reflex (vented) enclosure configurations for each model, which vary in size and performance. For each type you will find projects that favor size,
for minimum possible bulk, or for absolute performance, to the detriment of the space taken up.
ALL OF THESE PROJECTS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED, TESTED AND OPTIMIZED IN THE LABORATORY AND THEN PERFECTED IN THE ACTUAL VEHICLE INTERIOR.
THE REPORTED CURVES ARE NOT SOFTWARE SIMULATIONS; THEY ARE ACTUAL DATA OBTAINED BY SOUND MEASUREMENTS DEVICES IN THE VEHICLE.
ML subwoofers can be used in many other enclosure configurations other than the ones listed in this manual. With the help of a computer simulation software, you may design an
enclosure that is better suited for the acoustics of your vehicle and your desired performance. There are some practical suggestions to follow when designing an enclosure.
Please remember that:
_ In the designs included in this manual, the box volume includes the displacement volume of the speaker itself considering it is mounted with the
frame/magnet structure inside the box;
_ If you invert the subwoofer, with the frame/magnet assembly on the outside of the enclosure, you should subtract the speaker displacement volume
(Total driver displacement) from the suggested enclosure volume;
_ The suggested designs, both sealed and reflex (vented), have been optimized considering the use of a sheet damping material like the AZ Audiocomp FONOFORM
on all the internal walls of the enclosure, other than the speaker’s baffle.
_ The tuning ports specified in the reflex (vented) designs are meant for mounting near one of the box corners and their material displacement volume is already
included in the overall box volume;
_ If you wish to design an enclosure with several subwoofers, use only the same subwoofer model using the same enclosure configuration. Each subwoofer should
have its own separate enclosure within the single structure.
Warning: those who wish to find more information on building these enclosures can visit the following address: www.hertzaudiovideo.com,
where technical files are available in PDF format containing all the tables with precise measurements.

Parameters selection and quality control are very important to HERTZ production. Every component is subjected
to several controls along the whole production line and it is then selected according to strict criteria and
very small tolerances.

ML 280 Signature Frequency Response Test

To satisfy the needs of the most demanding enthusiasts, HERTZ worked out a very precise, selective matching
process for ML 280 tweeters. ML 280 Signature components are chosen at the end of the production process
through an analysis which evaluates their performance in the domain of time and frequency. The data are recorded
in a special database which analyses their performance and couples the pieces according to their serial number.

The result is a packaging which contains a pair of identical tweeters, able to ensure state-of-the-art performance
in state-of-the-art systems.

29
ML 280 / ML 28 TECHNOLOGIES

1_ Tetolon® Fiber dome with hemispheric-hyperbolic

profile. The 28 mm diameter, the dome height
and the special profile ensure maximum
stiffness and the right linearity for flat, smooth
frequency response even beyond the audible
range.

2_ The motor assembly special shape creates

perfect field symmetry which provides startling
energy. Thanks to the use of a double REN®
Neodymium magnet, ML 280 can maintain
mobile voice coil movement linearity even at
extreme excursions, ensuring extraordinary
energy for state-of-the-art performance.
1
3_ The upper pole, covered by a pure copper short
circuit ring, generates an anti-inductive effect,
flattening impedance. CCAW copper covered
aluminium wire voice coil makes this mobile
voice coil very light, yet stiff. These elements
act together, providing the best SPL values
and the best response at very high frequencies.

4_ Cooling and decompression radial ducts.

Designed in order to enhance heat dissipation 2
and to avoid compression under the dome,
they optimise mobile voice coil damping and
resonance. The holes special geometry and the
rear resonance chamber provide natural, linear
sound by eliminating all noise.

5_ Non-woven natural damping material.

The one used under the dome differs from
the one employed for resonance chambers; 3
damping is increased, as well as the tweeter
dynamics.

6_ The main housing and the rear chambers are

obtained from solid aluminium. The precision
working ensures a totally inert structure which
improves the component performance and
changes the smallest, most delicate sound
tones into acoustic energy.

7_ Acoustic chambers with different loading.

The tweeter can be used in different
configurations, since it is possible to choose
the best Q for the system by changing the rear
acoustic chamber. The chambers simulate
sealed box configuration; they are filled with
natural, non-woven absorbing material for the
component best damping. The small chamber 4 5
increases Q factor and makes the tweeter
slope sharper; the big one makes slope
smoother at lower frequencies.

8_ Die-cast aluminium alloy face plate. Stiffness,

damping and lightness, reflections analysis
and sound accuracy for a component which
surpasses any other references.

9_ Atypic REN® Neodymium magnet made

of 12 magnetic bars in push-pull configuration.
It is designed in order to generate a perfectly
symmetric magnetic field which eliminates
intermodulation distortions, ensuring a four-time
higher efficiency than a traditional speaker and
extraordinary dynamics.

10_ Ultra-light Mylar membrane, 117 x 15 mm,

with silver deposit. The special treatment with
8
valuable metal gives Mylar the right stiffness;
thanks to it, to the material lightness and to
the magnet special structure, frequency
response can go from 70 to 35000 Hz.

11_ Dipolar emission. Acoustic radiation is not

affected by a back load; this way the membrane
works in maximum symmetry, with ideal
damping, ensuring the most natural, colorless
musical reproduction.

12_ Acoustically transparent aluminium grille.

Designed as an integral part of ML 500R,
it both mechanically protects the speaker
and contributes to acoustic results, for the
driver best performance.

ML 1600 / ML 165 TECHNOLOGIES

13_ Paper cone with cotton fibers molded with

water-repellent impregnating materials.
The exponential profile without dust cover
gets very close to the ideal one, providing
exceptional dispersion. The use of a paper
support optimises mechanical coupling,
eliminating break-up phenomena and ensuring
the smoothest high frequency response.

14_ Rubber, latex and silicone double-wave

surround, with sinusoidal profile. This evolution
of the innovative DWR®, with integrated gasket,
can stand extreme linear excursions, setting
a new standard in musical reproduction.
13 14
15_ Anti-resonant aluminium alloy basket.
The special low incidence basket arms provide
membrane with minimum back radiation
resistance and eliminate distortion.
The self-standing structure helps in mechanical
damping without affecting acoustics.

16_ Nomex® spider with integrated lead wires.

Valuable materials and technology applied
to sound change a hidden part into a necessary
element to ensure vibrations rejection and
mechanical control in the reproduction
of musical signals, even at the longest
excursions.

17_ The motor is built around a high thermal

threshold REN® Neodymium ring, with unique 15 16
sizes. Located into a structure which enhances
flux symmetry in the gap, it achieves
extraordinary values and ensures thermal
stability, bursting dynamics, very high
efficiency. The butyl rubber protection which
covers the magnet damps resonance and
vibrations, improving the basket work and
completing the component aesthetical design.

18_ The pure copper cover central pole and the

two layer, CCAW, 36 mm voice coil, wound
on Kapton® former, flatten impedance, ensure
maximum power handling and the smoothest
mid-high frequency response: the woofer can
play at higher frequencies without problems.

19_ The ferrite magnet assembly was designed 17 18

using state-of-the-art development softwares
and generates a very high field power. Its
considerable size does not hinder the mounting
but is the main feature to grant a very high
thermal stability and bursting dynamics.

20_ Acoustically transparent grille. Grilles are built

to offer the best mechanic protection, yet being
completely transparent and not hindering the
woofer mid-frequency reproduction.

21_ Aluminium die-cast central case. Utmost care

and attention are paid to every detail: the filter
case, with hidden fixing system, is made of
inert material, to reject all vibrations.

22_ Aluminium heat sink for resistors.

Metaloxide resistors are connected in parallel
and assembled on a special heat sink which
ehnances their performance and power
handling. This configuration increases
the resistors working temperature stabilisation,
notably improving acoustic results.

23_ TAD® + HFC®: time alignment and listening

point optimisation system. The car compartment 21 22
has fixed listening positions and the components
forced installation sometimes places them
at different distance and non favourable
angulations. Thanks to these adjustments,
both the driver and the passenger will be able
to fully enjoy the components best acoustic

response, simply by setting the right
adjustment on the filter. TAD/HFC off
24_ Filters are pre-set in order to allow
multi-amplification connections.
The possibility to set an endless number
of configurations makes these crossovers
extremely flexible and universal.

25_ Inductors: 1mm Quadralitz copper coils,

low resistance, high saturation flux; 23
Capacitors: polyester film, 100 Vdc, very low DF;
Layout: 1.7 mm shockproof FR2
with very thick pads.

26_ Filters have tweeter and midrange sensitivity

control. The 1.5 dB-step attenuators permit
to tune the speaker at best, in every car
and according to every need.

27_ Nothing is haphazard: reinforced ABS case

and aggressive design with hidden fixing
system for staggering installations. Power and
control: low resistance as high saturation flux
voice coils, 100 Vdc polyester film capacitors,
tweeter sensitivity control. Amplification can
be doubled. High Frequency Contour.

ML SUB TECHNOLOGIES

28_ The V-CONE is applied to a Polypropylene

membrane stiffened with mineral dusts.
The exponential profile without dust cover
gets very close to the ideal one and
eliminates break-ups to provide the
maximum undistorted performance.

29_ Power transfer is carried out through screw

terminals that accept peeled cables up to
5 AWG. The terminal blocks are inside the
mounting surface and are arranged to allow
the linear connection of the cable. Mounting
on elastic support preserves the mechanical
integrity, protecting the nerve center of the
component from the vibrations that the sub
28 29
can generate.

30_ Reference in design: power and harmony in a

mix of sharp lines and widely curved profiles.
The anti-resonant aluminium alloy basket
features five low incidence spokes and offers
the minimum back radiation resistance,
eliminating every distortion due to acoustic
compression. The self-standing geometry
of the structure contributes to total mechanical
damping, performing a perfectly transparent
sound.

31_ Foam surround and Conex® spider with high

thermal and mechanical linearity.
Like competition cars suspensions, these
elements must stand the most extreme 30
conditions: ensuring the utmost stability and
symmetry at the highest excursions for
astonishing impact and amazing extension
to the low range.

32_ The “Symmetrical Shape” central pole

addresses the external lines increasing the
magnetic flux density and perceptibly
decreasing the field asymmetry distortion.
An aluminium rounded ring inside the motor
cuts the inductance modulation at the highest
excursions, for a harder, deeper, clearer bass.

33_ Basic design and care for details. The gasket

is designed to allow both possible mountings.
In the traditional position a rubber gasket
ensures a perfect hermetical seal and the 31
inserts, imitating the spokes lines, protect
and cover the subwoofer fixing screws. When
the sub is used with the magnet visible, the
gasket can be mounted upside down in order
to finish off the basket nicely.

32 33

34
ML SUB TECHNOLOGIES

34_ Aluminium die-cast protective grille. The gasket

housings and the inserts covering the basket
edge are pre-set to accommodate the
protection grille base which becomes an
integral part of the speaker without increasing
the subwoofer external size.

35_ The dual layer mobile voice coil with copper

covered aluminium wire (CCAW), the subwoofer
throbbing heart, is wound round a carbon fiber
support, stiff and light to ensure very high
mechanical Qs, transferring the energy to the
cone with amazing efficiency. The support is
set on the cone bottom through a self-referring
system, for a mechanically perfect mounting. 34

36_ The spider support contributes to total

mechanical performance. Made to improve the
dispersion of the heat generated by the coil
and to reduce the compression below the
spider, it favors the thermal exchange with the
outside increasing the power performance.

37_ Extremely big double high flow density magnet.

Only the exclusive double magnetization cycle,
optimized in times and tensions, allows to
generate a force factor which can control the
mobile equipment with the right energy, for an
excellent transient response.

38_ The combination of flared port with radial holes

in the central pole in the bottom plate carries 35 36
the air compressed by the cone movement
directly to the mobile voice coil and outside
the magnet assembly, producing a 30% fall
of the speaker operation temperature.
The improvement of the air flows inside the
motor, with this peculiar channel geometry,
creates a forced ventilation circuit that
drastically reduces the dynamic compression,
raising the applicable power over the top.

39_ High current lead wire integrated in the spider.

The conductors which transfer the current to
the voice coil are not subject to mechanical
stress; so they generate electrical and
mechanical safety, and furthermore grant a
silent operation even at the highest excursions.
37 38
40_ Like in motorbikes chassis, the anti-resonant
aluminium carter covering the magnet closes
the basket in a unique configuration,
performing aesthetical and mechanical
functions. The stiffer structure contributes to
eliminate the resonances induced in the
subwoofer bearing system.
