PONTIFICAL GRADUATION AND MOVING UP HIGH MASS

By
HIS GRACE THE MOST REVEREND
BISHOP EMERITUS FILOMENO G. BACTOL

Graduation and Moving up is a beginning of an arduous mission ahead. Like

our Lord Jesus who was sent by the Father to preach the Gospel, the graduates and
completers are also invited by Him with wisdom and knowledge necessary in their
mission, the graduates and completers will come again to praise and thank Him.

Looking back to the bittersweet memories, the graduates and completers of

Batch 2019 have journeyed and braved the realities of life. And embarking their next
trip to life, we pray that God will shower them with grace and guidance. Being one
with them, we offer this gathering on the table of the Father to all graduates and
completers Batch 2019. And so we all stand to welcome Christ in the person of His
minister, His Excellency The Most Reverend Bishop Emeritus Filomeno G. Bactol
together with the concelebrating priests as we sing the entrance hymn.

All: Amen

1
PENITENTIAL ACT

Celebrant: Brethren (brothers and sisters), lets us acknowledge our sins, and
so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

All: I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I
have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words in what I have
done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault; therefore, I ask blessed Mary Ever-
Virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to
pray for me to the Lord our God.

(To be sung)

LORD HAVE MERCY

Lord have mercy on us

Christ have mercy on us
Lord have mercy on us

Celebrant: May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and
bring us to everlasting life.

All: Amen.

(When this hymn is concluded, with hands joined say :)

Celebrant: Let us pray

(And all pray in silence with the priest for a while) (Then the priest,
with hands extended, says the collect prayer, at the end of which the
people acclaim :)

Celebrant: Almighty ever-living God,

who gave us the Paschal Mystery
in the covenant you established
for reconciling the human race
so dispose our minds, we pray,
that what we celebrate by professing the faith
we may express in deeds.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

All: Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

Commentator: Please be seated and let us listen to the word of God.

Ruby N. Urbano: A reading from the book of Wisdom.

(Wis 2, 1.12-22)

2
The wicked said among themselves, thinking not aright:
“Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us;
He sets himself against our doings,
Reproaches us for transgressions of the law and charges us with
violations of our training.
He professes to have knowledge of God and styles himself a child of
the Lord.
To us he is the censure of our thoughts; merely to see him is a hardship
for us,
Because his life is not like others men’s, and different are his ways.
He judges us debased; he holds aloof from our paths as from things
impure.
He calls blest the destiny of the just and boasts that God is his Father.
Let us see whether his words be true; let us find out what will happen
to him.
For if the just one be the son of God, he will defend him and deliver
him from the hand of his foes.
With revilement and torture let us put him to the test that we may have
proof of his gentleness and try his patience.
Let us condemn him to a shameful death; for according to his own
words, God will take care of him.”
These were their thoughts, but they erred; for their wickedness blinded
them, and they knew not the hidden counsels of God; neither did they
count on a recompense of holiness nor discern the innocent souls’
reward. The Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

All: The Lord is near to broken hearts.

Jumylene Lex A. Lopez:
The lord confronts the evildoers, to destroy remembrance of them from
the earth.
When the just cry out, the Lord hears them, and from all their distress
he rescues them.

All: The Lord is near to broken hearts.

Jumylene Lex A. Lopez:
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; and those who are crushed in
spirit he saves.
Many are the troubles of the just man, but out of them all the Lord
delivers him.
All: The Lord is near to broken hearts.
Jumylene Lex A. Lopez:
He watches over all his bones; not one of them shall be broken.
The Lord redeems the lives of his servants; no one incurs guilt who
takes refuge in him.
All: The Lord is near to broken hearts. (2x)

Commentator: The storm of hostility against Jesus is brewing. He is fully aware

3
of it. Nothing can stop him from doing the Father’s will. Please rise to
honor the Holy Gospel.

WE WILL HEAR

We will hear
Your word one in love
We will live
Your word one in love
we will spread
your word one in love.

GOSPEL

Celebrant: The Lord be with you.

All: And with your Spirit.

Celebrant: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

(Jn 7, 1-2.10.25-30)

All: Glory to you O Lord.

Celebrant:

Jesus moved about within Galilee. He had decided not to travel in

Judea because some of the Jews were looking for a chance to kill him. The
Jewish feast of Booths drew near. Once his brothers had gone up to the
festival he too went up, but as if in secret and not for all to see.
Some of the people of Jerusalem remarked, “is this not the one they
want to kill? Here he is speaking in public and they don’t say a word to
him! Perhaps even the authorities have decided that this is the Messiah.
Still, we know where this man is form. When the Messiah comes, no one
is supposed to know his origins.”
At this, Jesus, who was teaching in the temple area, cried out:
“So you know me,
And you know my origins?
The truth is, I have not come of myself.
I was sent by One who has the right to send,
and him you do not know. I know him because it is from him I
come:
he sent me.”
At this day tried to seize him, but no one laid a finger on him
because his hour had not yet come.

Celebrant: The Gospel of the Lord.

(Then he kisses the book, saying quietly :)

4
Celebrant: Through the words of the Gospel may our sins be wiped away.

Commentator: Please be seated and listen to the homily.

HOMILY
(by: His Excellency The Most Reverend Bishop Emeritus Filomeno G. Bactol)

Commentator: Please stand.

CREED

All: I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and
earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages. God from God, light from light, true
God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he
came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the
Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered

death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance
with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right
hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and
the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who
proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son
is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess

one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the
resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

Commentator: Please all rise.

PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS:

Celebrant: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your
goodness we have received the bread we offer you: fruit of the earth
and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life.

All: Blessed be God forever.

Celebrant: By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the
divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity.

All: Blessed be God forever.

Celebrant: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your
goodness we have received the wine we offer you: fruit of The vine
and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink.

All: Blessed be God forever.

7
Celebrant: Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters), that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.

All: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory
of his name, for our good and the good of all his Holy Church.

(Then the priest, with hands extended, says the prayer over the
offerings, at the end of which the people acclaim :)

Celebrant: Perfect within us, O Lord we pray,

the solemn exchange brought about by these paschal offerings,
that we may be drawn from earthly desires
to a longing for the things of heaven.
Through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

PREFACE I OF EASTER

Celebrant: The Lord be with you.

All: And with your Spirit.

Celebrant: Lift up your hearts.

All: We lift them up to the Lord.

Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All: It is right and just.

Celebrant: It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
at all times to acclaim you, O Lord,
but on this day above all
to laud you yet more gloriously,
when Christ our Passover has been sacrificed.

For He is the true Lamb

who has taken away the sins of the world;
by dying he has destroyed our death,
and by the rising, restored our life.

Therefore, overcome with paschal joy,

every land, every people exults in your praise
and even the heavenly Powers, with the angelic hosts,
sing together the unending hymn or your glory,
as they acclaim:

8
(To be sung)

HOLY

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord

God of power and might,
Heaven and Earth are
full of your glory…
Hossana in the Highest
blessed is He, who
comes in the name of
the Lord…
Hossana in the Highest.

Commentator: (Please remain standing).

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER III

(Holding his hands extended over the offerings, he says :)

Celebrant: You are indeed Holy, O Lord,

and all you have created
rightly gives you praise,
for through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
by the power and working of the Holy Spirit,
you give life to all things and make them holy,
and you never cease to gather a people to yourself,
so that from the rising of the sun to its setting
a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.
(He joins his hands and holding them extended over the offerings, says:)
therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you:
by the same Spirit graciously make holy
these gifts we have brought to you for consecration,
(He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and chalice
together, saying:)
that they may become the Body and Blood
of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
(He joins his hands.)
(In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and
distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.)
For on the night he was betrayed
(He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:)
He himself took bread,
And, giving you thanks, he said the blessing,
Broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying,
(He bows slightly)
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
(He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and genuflects
in adoration).

9
(After this, he continues:)
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
(He takes the chalice and holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:)
He took the chalice,
And, giving you thanks, he said the blessing,
And gave the chalice to his disciples, saying:
(He bows slightly)
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK OF IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.

DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

(He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in
adoration.)

(Then he says:)

Celebrant: The mystery of faith

(To be sung)

ACCLAMATION

WE PROCLAIM YOUR DEATH

OH, LORD AND PROFESS YOUR
RESURRECTION, UNTIL YOU
COME AGAIN.

(Then the priest, with hands extended, says)

Celebrant: Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial

of the saving Passion of your Son,
his wondrous Resurrection
and Ascension into heaven,
and as we look forward to his second coming,
we offer you in thanksgiving
this holy and living sacrifice.

Look, we pray, upon the oblation of your Church

and, recognizing the sacrificial Victim by whose death
you willed to reconcile us to yourself,
grant that we, who are nourished
by the Body and Blood of your Son
and filled with his Holy Spirit,
may become one body, one spirit in Christ.

May he make of us
an eternal offering to you,
so that we may obtain an inheritance with you elect,

10
especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with your blessed Apostles and glorious Martyrs
(with Saint N: the Saint of the day or Patron Saint)
and with all the Saints,
on whose constant intercession in your presence
we rely for unfailing help.

May this Sacrifice of our reconciliation,

we pray, O Lord,
advance the peace and salvation of all the world.

Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity

your pilgrim church on earth,
with your servant N. our Pope and N. our Bishop,
the Order of Bishops, all the clergy,
and the entire people you have gained for your own.

Listen graciously to the prayers of this family,

whom you have summoned before you:
in your compassion, O merciful father,
gather to yourself all your children
scattered throughout the world.

To our departed brothers and sisters

and to all who were pleasing to you
at their passing from this life,
give kind admittance to your kingdom.
There we hope to enjoy for ever the fullness of your glory
(He joins his hands.)
through Christ our Lord,
through whom you bestowed on the world all that is good.

(He takes the chalice and the paten with the host and raising both he says:)
Through him, and with him, and in him,
O God, Almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
for ever and ever.
(The people acclaim:)
(To be sung)

Great Amen

AMEN. AMEN. AMEN.

Celebrant: At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare

to say:
(To be sung)
OUR FATHER

Our Father, who art in heaven.

11
Holy be your name
Your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin against us
and do not bring us to the test,
but deliver us from evil
Amen.

Celebrant: Deliver us, Lord we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace
in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free
from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and
the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

(To be sung)

DOXOLOGY

For the kingdom, the power and

the glory are yours now and forever.

Celebrant: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles; Peace I leave you, my
peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your
Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance
with your will who live and reign for ever and ever.

All: Amen

Celebrant: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

All: And with your Spirit.

Celebrant: Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

All: Peace be with you

(May this mingling of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ
being eternal life to
us who receive it.)

(To be sung)

LAMB OF GOD

I. Lamb of god you take away the sins of the world

Have mercy on us
(Repeat)

12
II. Lamb of god, you take away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on us
(Repeat II)

III. Lamb of god you take away the sins of the world,
Lord, grant us peace

IV. Lamb of god you take away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on us
Grant us peace
(You take away the sins of the world)

(Then the priest, with hands joined, says quietly :)

Lord Jesus Christ son of the living God who by the will of the Father
and the work of the Holy Spirit, through your death gave life to the
world; free me by this you most Holy Body and Blood, from all my sins
and from every evil, keep me always faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.

Celebrant: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of
the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only
say the word and my soul shall be healed.

(The priest, facing the altar, says quietly ;)

Celebrant: May the Body of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.
(And he reverently consumes the body Christ.) (Then he takes the
Chalice and says quietly :)
May the Blood of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.
(And he reverently consumes the blood of Christ.)

Commentator: Let us prepare ourselves for the Holy Communion. May I request
for those who will receive the Sacred Body of Christ to form two lines
for both sides and on the center aisle.
