1. Base – Means the chart content which cannot be removed from ECDIS Display.

It’s not sufficient

for Safe Navigation.
Standard – Means ECDIS display mode when minimum information displayed on chats
Other Display – Means all chart content that is contained in the ENC (Electronic Navigational Chart).
During route monitoring we always use Other Display Mode!!!

2. The Safety Contour - visible boundary between ‘safe’ and ‘unsafe’ water with respect to depth.
Safety Contour Value = Vessel Max Draught + Squat + Safety Margins.

Safety Depth – using to provide more clear indication of unsafe spot soundings.

3. SCAMIN – the smallest scale of chart at which an object is displayed.

4. Each ENC cell is designed at a specific scale. The Base / Compilation scale - is original design scale or 1:1, at
which all objects will be visible.

5. By using the cursor, we can select charted object and call “Pick report” to obtain more detailed
information.

6. Each ENC cell has an 8-character identifier. The first two characters are letters and indicate Country
(Nation) of ENC producer. Third character indicates Navigational Purpose:
1 – Overview, 2 – General, 3 – Coastal, 4 – Approach, 5 – Harbour, 6 – Berthing;
and last characters identify individual cell number.
For Example: ENC cell # AU412130 – AU – Australian Hydrographic Office
4 – Navigation Purpose – Approach
12130 – individual number.

7. In Other Display settings (первый вопрос) we can switch ON or OFF CATZOC presentation.
There are 6 CATZOC category - A1, A2, B, C, D and U.

8. Yes. In Chart Settings.

9. RNC (Raster Navigation Chart) – Scanned copy of original Paper Chart.

Limitations:
- when using RNC, it will not trigger automatic alarms, such as anti – grounding.
- Chart symbols cannot be simplified or removed
- Change of orientation (Course Up, Head Up) will affect readability of text and symbols
- It’s not possible to display Safety contour / Safety depth.
RNC don’t give us full functionality of ECDIS and can only be used together with an appropriate
Up-to-Date paper charts.

10. In ECDIS Settings.

Mandatory sensors to be connected to ECDIS: GPS, Gyro, Log.

Additional sensors: AIS, RADAR.

11. Yes. Is it possible.

12. Yes. ENC Chart 1 (Chart Symbols) is available on ECDIS, but not all models. If Chart 1 is not available, we can use
publication NP 5012 “Admiralty Guide to ENC Symbols used in ECDIS”.

13. OTHER POSITION FIXING TYPES: Visual Observations, Radar Observations, Parallel Index, Radar Overlay.

14. ECDIS has a built-in function to Import or Export Passage plans / routes.

15. In ECDIS / Log Book settings we can start Playback or Voyage replay function.

16. All ECDIS’es has Night / Dusk / Bright (or Day) Display palettes.

17. Disc with ENC updates published by UKHO (United Kingdom Hydrographic Office) every week.

20. The latest version of Presentation Library is 4.0. Since ECDIS updated up to Presentation Library 4.0 the Data
Presentation and Performance Check should be run once after installing an ECDIS by Service Engineer and no longer
required to be done on-board by ship’s staff. Re-check is recommended only after Software Update.
