CHAPTER 3

This chapter explains the procedures, method of research and techniques used by the researchers. Data
with regards to the city population, traffic volume count, number of accidents, origin-destination
matrix, city ordinances, and the programs implemented were utilized to formulate the
improvement of traffic flow of the said area.
Methods of Collecting Data
a) An interview was conducted with the traffic enforcer in-charge Mr. Artemio Tarum as
shown in Fig 3.1 along Shaw Blvd within the vicinity of Pasig City. His response
served as a basis by the researchers to foresee the traffic condition within Shaw Blvd.
These questions sought to describe the current traffic flow and situation along Shaw
Blvd. The conversation between the traffic enforcer and the researchers were noted
and recorded as shown on Figure 3.2.

Question 1: What is the speed limit in this area.

Question 2: Is the speed limit strictly enforced? How?

Question 3: What traffic measure is implemented to lessen the


congestion along Shaw Blvd.

Question 4: What time is the truck ban implemented in this


area?

Question 5: Among all areas along Shaw Blvd, which is greatly


affected by traffic congestion and due to what?

Question 6: Have you promoted non-motorized system of


transport or green transportation modes along Shaw Blvd?

Question 7: How would you describe the traffic flow along Shaw
Blvd. during peak and non-peak hours.

b) The current traffic flow and situation along Shaw Blvd. was studied closely by the
researchers on varying hours.
