Isolator Function
The rubber in the isolator acts as a spring. It’s very soft laterally but very stiff
vertically. The high vertical stiffness is achieved by having thin layers of rubber sheet
reinforced by steel plates. These two characteristics allow the isolator to move
laterally with relatively low stiffness while carry significant axial loads due to their
high vertical stiffness. The lead core provides damping by deforming plastically when
the isolator moves in an earthquake.
Working principle
Lead Rubber Bearings work on the principle of base isolation and limit the energy
transferred from the ground to the structure in order to protect it. The rubber/steel
laminated bearing is designed to carry the weight of the structure and make the
post-yield elasticity available. The rubber provides the isolation and the re-centering.
The lead core deforms plastically under shear deformations, while dissipating energy
through heat.

A building rigidly fixed to the ground will follow the seismic motion and undergo
extensive damage as a result.
By isolating a building from the ground by means of flexible bearing on which it

permanently rests, it will only move a little or not at all during an earthquake. These
flexible bearings are commonly known as base isolators.

Types
Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB): LRB is make from multiple layers of rubber sheets
and steel plates via vulcanization, connected by top and bottom steel plates, with a
single or multiple lead core inside, to increase the damping capacity and reduce the
seismic force acting on the rubber bearing.

Features:
High vertical stiffness, large horizontal deformation, good durability, high damping
rate, improves the seismic efficiency grade.

High Damping Rubber Bearing (HDRB): High damping bearing is adding kinds
of complexing agent, to increase the damping performance, the damping ratio is
10~15%.

Features:
Strong horizontal displacement capability, can

effectively absorb the earthquake energy;
Strong structural reduction ability makes little
residual displacement; With high damping
material, it has good energy dissipation
capacity.

Range
Isolation bearing sizes from 400*400 mm to 1620*1620 mm are available and

loading capacity from 1600 KN to 25600 KN.
In addition, the seismic isolation bearing produced by our products of size ranging
from 400～ 1200 have passed the type test of Shanghai Tongji University, Huazhong
University of Science & Technology, Guangzhou University.
The biggest size produced and currently in service is 1420*1420 mm.
The bearings can be designed and manufactured in accordance with international

specifications: GB, EN, AASHTO, Japanese Specification, National Norms, etc.
