ACIDS AND BASES

I. OBJECTIVE:
 Determine if a product commonly used at home is an acid or base.

II. MATERIALS:

 Red and Blue litmus papers


 coffee
 water
 oil
 dishwashing liquid
 vinegar
 soy sauce
 cologne
 tea
 salt solution
 fish sauce
 orange juice
 toothpaste
 lotion
 soda

III. PROCEDURES:
1. Prepare all the materials needed. (Caution: acids and bases are corrosive.
Handle with care).

2. Put each sample in a cup and dip litmus paper into each. Observe what
happens to the litmus paper.
