Expt 1 Drafting of Cotter Joint

Aim : To prepare the drawing of cotter joint with socket and spigot ends shown in figure.

Software used: Solidworks

Commands used:

1. Line
2. Centre line
3. Fillet
4. Spline
5. Smart dimensions
6. Text

Procedure:

1. Select ISO part for creating cotter joint

2. Select front reference plane
3. Select sketch
4. Draw reference line using centre line command
5. Select line command to draw the 2D profile as per dimensions
6. Join the both ends of cotter using 3 point arc
7. Use smart dimension command to modify the dimensions
8. Hatch the portion as specified in the diagram
9. Use text command to name it as “Cotter Joint With Socket And Spigot Ends”
Result: The drawing of cotter joint with socket and spigot ends is prepared using solidworks
software package.
