Soon, multi-storeyed AMTS terminus at Lal Darwaja

Ahmedabad: With work on revitalisation of Bhadra Plaza underway, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is now
working on two other components – modernisation of Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) bus terminus
and elevated walkway linking Bhadra Fort and Sabarmati riverfront.

The Bhadra revitalisation project has been approved by Jawahar Nehru National Renewal Mission. The project has
not faced any objections from the Archaeological Survey of India as the new bus terminus does not fall under buffer
zone created for protection of monuments. AMC is giving final touches to the design before inviting tenders.

The project design has undergone many changes since its conceptualisation three years ago. AMC has roped in
Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) university for designing the multi-storeyed AMTS
terminus and elevated walkway and a proposal for setting up a 22-storey building was placed before the municipal
commissioner. However, he rejected it since the cost escalated manifold and AMC has earmarked only around Rs40
crore as the initial amount for the project.

Sources now say that a 12-storey building is being planned instead. The 600-metre-long walkway will be around
seven metres in height and cost around Rs6 lakh. Tenders will be floated once the design is approved, sources in
AMC said.
