system for many years. It’s not their fault, it’s just much easier for the studio to
keep them in the dark about new advances in hair system technologies.

While some guys are okay with this,

A common problem we see is that
some men are still wearing durable
bases with thinner density hair, yet the
base can be seen. There are better
choices out there that are just as
durable yet much more transparent.
One of the first decisions that you
should make is whether a custom
designed or stock (pre-made) hair
system would be best for you. There
are a few subtle differences between
them.

The hair replacement studios and

distributors create technical names for
hair systems to make them sound
much more sophisticated than they
really are. This allows the studio to
charge more for the newer technolo-
gies, while in reality, all of the different
hair system bases cost about the same
to manufacture.

Hair Systems
Most men prefer to purchase a
custom designed hair system as it
allows them to fine tune specific
features that are important to them.
Replacement studios are experts at
complicating the simple process of
designing and manufacturing your
system. Watch enough of those
late-night television commercials and
you would think that the hair actually
grows!
Studios do this to convince you that
their hair systems are unique and
worth thousands of dollars. Hair
systems are only constructed of two
basic types of material;

In addition to the base material, you
will also need to choose the hair color,
frontal hairline material, hair type
lenght aml density.
How long you wish to wear your hair
system before removing it will help
you determine the base material most
suitable for you. Some guys wear it for
the day and remove at night, whereby
others wear it for 2 - 4 weeks.

Examples of skin grafts are the

SuperSkin, Folligraft, Edge, Omni and
other catchy names. They are compri-
sed of one or more layers of silicone
with the hair hand-tied or injected
into the base.

The thinner the skin graft, the lesser

the density must be. The skins can
range from very thin which are delica-
te and typically bonded to the head up
to a medium thickness skin which can
have a greater density and can be
bonded or taped to the skin.

The breathable material includes

Fine Mono Mesh, French lace or Swiss
lace and the hair is hand tied. A
popular system is the Bio Matrix.

Euro Bond.

Other custom hair system choices
In addition to the base material, there are a few additional options.
Frontal design
If you ask hair wearers what they wish
for most in a hair system, they will tell
you that they want to wear the most
realistic and natural hair system
possible.
This is achieved with the appropriate
hairline base material, followed by the
proper hair color and age appropriate
density.
When you speak with someone and
look them straight in the eye, you
know they have discovered that
you're wearing a hair system if they
glance at your hairline. This is a very
awkward situation and should be
avoided at all costs!
The proper frontal hairline can
prevent this from happening and it
begins with selecting the correct
material for the front.

There are several choices of material
for the hairline and some are fragile
while others are durable. Each one
has pros and cons and can be attached
to the scalp in a couple of different
ways.
The first frontal material that most of
us start off with is made of polyure-
thane (PU), which is very durable and
will last a long time, however it does
create a rather rigid smooth hairline,
which depending upon your hairstyle
may not look as natural as you would
like.
Thinner versions of PU are Glass Silk,
PU See Thru and Bio Skin.
Glass Silk and the thinner PU See
Thru are excellent fronts for most
people that want durability.

The remaining choices are French or
Swiss lace, both of which look stun-
ning when attached properly to the
forehead, however they can be fragile.
The best way to attach them is either
with no shine or blue lace tape or
bonding adhesive.

In particular, the lace or bio skin,

which are very thin and transparent
on the forehead will resemble the
most realistic hairline you could ever
wish for if you choose the correct hair
density.

The lace is porous and can be dyed to

match your skin tone and can either
be Swiss, French or Fine Welded
(EZON) for incredible invisibility.

A secret in the business that salons

describe the same hair systems that you
can sell for half their cost. The hair studio
led me to believe that the newer techno-
logy of thin skin grafts would cost a lot
more money and I was so glad to hear

to make and that therefore they should
cost the same amount of money to sell.

will rarely tell you is that a lace front
can easily be replaced with new lace
and brand-new hair, so if you have a
spare system, you could rotate them
back-and-forth a couple of times for
repairs.
The bio skin is a very thin translucent-
material that looks stunning and
should be bonded to the scalp to look
it's best. The hair can be injected,
V-Looped or knotted in a random
pattern to duplicate an imperfect
staggered hairline.
It could be taped but sometimes the
tape can be seen through the thin
skin. Plus the removal of tape could
possibly rip the skin.

Using a dab-on glue stick for daily

holding time or a stronger adhesive
for a longer holding time is the prefe-
rred method for attaching a bio-skin
front.

Density

For a man, the hair density is critical
to providing a realistic look that is
age-appropriate for you. A delicate
balance is the goal to ensure that you
look great.
I know that we all want to look like
we're 25 years old, but it does look a
little ridiculous if you're in your 50's
and you have a big wad of hair like
your 19-year-old son. Don't do it. If
ever in doubt, all you need to do is ask
a female what she thinks and she will
tell you what will look best.
The density of the hair is simply the
'number of hairs per square inch' and
can range from extra-light through
extra-heavy.
One advantage that custom hair
systems have over stock units is that
the density can vary anywhere in the
hairpiece. As an example, you could
(and probably should) have slightly
less density in the hairline gradually
increasing through the top and crown
area.

Hair Type
There are 2 types of hair that hair
systems can be made of - human hair
and synthetic fiber.
Human Hair
Human hair looks and feels like the
real thing because it is the real thing.
It originates from a variety of coun-
tries, primarily India and China and it
allows for greater flexibility and
styling as it can be curled, permed and
straightened just like your own
growing hair. Human hair can also be
subjected to heat from a curling iron
or hair dryer. A disadvantage is that it
requires periodic coloring as the
original color oxidizes over time.
It is co-mingled from multiple donors
and must be cleaned and dyed. It is
commonly referred to as ‘processed
hair’.
Synthetic Hair
Is a prepared blend of Kanekalon and
Toupelon, two of the world's finest
synthetic fibers. This blend provides
for better light reflection, softness
and less static, plus it looks more
realistic when wet.
Remy Human Hair
Is the finest quality and most beautiful
human hair in the world. It is handled
and processed very carefully. It is cut
from the donors head and tagged
"root end first" and remains this way
throughout the entire cleansing/ma-
nufacturing process. In fact, the
factories employ specifically trained
ventilators that have expertise in
working only with Remy hair. This
way, they can be sure to insert the
root end of the donor hair into the
base so that the cuticles around each
hair point in the same outward
growing direction and will not tangle.
Because of this and the gentle proces-
sing that must occur to cleanse and
color the hair, common problems such
as tangling, matting and dullness of
hair is significantly reduced. Remy
hair is soft to the touch and the best
human hair in the world.
Most men that purchase their hair
from the studio are getting overly
processed hair from multiple donors.
When they try Remy hair from
Advent, the majority of them are very
happy as they can see and feel the
difference of the better quality Remy
hair.

Hair Color, Grey & Hi-lites
Eventually, every man has grey hair. A
dead giveaway that you are wearing a
hairpiece is that the color is too dark
or there’s not enough grey. I use to
cringe when my friends did not know
that I wore hair and they would say
something like “I can spot a guy
wearing a hairpiece a mile away’. I
would then tell them my secret. Wear
the correct density and grey and you’ll
never be busted.

For hair color, we will match the

sample that you provide us. We can
blend in some slightly lighter colors, if
desired.

The grey, which can be synthetic fiber

or human hair, is added in 5% incre-
ments. For custom hair systems, we
can vary the grey throughout the
piece. i.e. 20% grey in the temples and
15% elsewhere. It looks real sharp
and is age appropriate.

Hair Style
Your hair technician will cut-in the
hair system to achieve the style you
desire. Depending on whether you
style your hair with a left, center, right
or no part or even straight back, we
can ventilate the hair in such a way to
make it easier for you and your tech.
In most cases, men’s hair systems are
ventilated in a ‘freestyle’ pattern,
which means that the hair ventilator
begins in the crown area and slightly
angles the hair knots forward for the
top of the head and downwards on
the sides and back. This technique
provides the hair tech with the utmost
in flexibility in cutting-in any style you
desire.
A few men prefer a soft or definite
part and we can ventilate those for
you as well.

Fine Mono Mesh

The Fine Mono Mesh (FMM) is the

standard hair system that most of us
begin our hair wearing days with. It’s
durable, can be attached with glue
and tape and is quite versatile with
hairline materials, wich includes
polyurethane, french lace and
bio-skin. French Lace Front
The outer perimeter, which allows for
attachment, can be PU coated/clear,
Glass Silk or Bio-skin.
About the only downside with the
FMM is that is can be visible if the
density is less than Medium/Light. If
you like lighter densities, we would
suggest you select French Lace, which
is lighter in weight and more transpa-
rent.

French Lace

The French Lace base consists of a

single layer of breathable material
that provides incredible invisibility for
the frontal hairline as well as the rest
of the base It can accommodate
densities ranging from Extra Light to
Medium.

The illustrations below depict two

popular configurations; all lace and
lace with a polyurethane tape tab on
the sides and back. This latter exam-
ple is commonly referred to as the Bio
Matrix (BMX) and can be attached
with daily tape, bonding tape or
perimeter poly-fuse bonding.

The all lace base can be attached with French Lace

full head bonding adhesive or with
bonding tape.

Note the concentric lines in the lace

base. These are structure threads
that provide durability and allow the
base to be trimmed down to a smaller
size without the lace unraveling.

If you like the see-thru look of the lace

base but prefer to wear it on a daily
basis, a second layer of lace can be
added to the outer perimeter sides &
back to provide a secure area for
applying the tape. This would allow
you to remove the tape after wearing
the system without pulling the hair
through the lace.
Bio Matrix
The BMX can also be worn for daily
wear by using any tape on the perime-
ter and blue lace or no shine tape on
the front. Just be sure to use Lace
Release when removing the lace from
your scalp.

Skin Graft

The skin graft bases consist of a single

layer of polyurethane, which can
range in thickness from super thin to
thick. The hair density can increase as
the skin thickness increases with a
maximum density of Heavy for the
thicker skins.

The hair can be ventilated as knotted,

V Looped or injected, with the V
Looped and Injected considered
fragile such that the hair systems will
last from 1 - 4 months. The most
durable skin graft would be a medium
thickness skin base with knotted hair.

Skin bases are typically full head

bonded on with an adhesive like Euro
Bond #7, Ghost Bond or Adhere 360
for a 3-4 week hold. If you wish to
attach with bonding tape for a 1-2
week hold or daily tape, we would add
a 1” perimeter of additional skin on
the sides/back to provide durability
when removing the tape.

For breathability, small ventilation

holes or a lace center can be added.

hair or the material rips or frays. In
particular, the french lace bases,
while beautiful are prone to hair
loss.

Absolutely! If you add up the cost of these "free" hair programs, you'll

you to bond the system to your head so they keep you coming back.

Will my new hair system be pre-cut and styled for me?

Absolutely not! It is impossible to do this without seeing you in

person. The detail required for thinning the hair, creating the frontal
recession that looks right for you, trimming the hair around the ears
and layering the hair in the back is best left to a professional stylist.
We believe that 80% of how well you look in your new hair system is
dependent on the stylist, so pick this person wisely and build a
relationship with them. Most of our clients have located their own
stylist who they are happy to work with. If you need a reference, just
call us. We have clients in every location and we would be happy to
call them to obtain their stylists name.

That being said, we have developed a very good relationship with

several stylists at hair studios that are willing to cut and style your hair
systems without meeting you. Many of our international clients use
this service.

How can Advent possibly offer better quality hair systems for under $600
while all the hair replacement salons charge at least $1,200?

We're not greedy! Recognize that Advent Hair is a wholesale distribu-

tor and we deal directly with the world's best hair manufacturers. The
typical hair replacement salon has expensive office space, costly TV

My hair salon tells me that the newer bases and undetectable frontal
materials cost more to manufacture and that's why they need to charge me
more. Is this true?

Oh boy, this is marketing at its finest! Don't believe this for one
second. While it is true that factories do charge a few extra dollars for
some of the materials, such as french & swiss lace and bio skin, the
studio should not be charging you hundreds of dollars more.

Don't be misled by the salon. Better yet run to the nearest phone and
call Advent Hair!

I’m wearing a system now that fits me perfectly. Even the hair color is spot
on. How can you duplicate it for me?

This is very easy. If you can send it to us, we can note the base dimen-
sions, hair color and density and return it to you within 24 hours.
Furthermore, we will retain these specifications on file, so re-ordering
is easy!
