Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT)

Lesson Idea Name: How do we divide and multiply

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): 5th

Content Standard Addressed: S5L3. Students will diagram and label parts of various cells (plant, animal,
single-celled, multi-celled).

Technology Standard Addressed: 3. Knowledge Constructor

Selected Technology Tool: bubbl.us

URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable) : https://bubbl.us/10013811

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☒ Analyzing ☒ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level):

☐ Level 1: Awareness ☐ Level 2: Exploration ☒ Level 3: Infusion ☐ Level 4: Integration
☐ Level 5: Expansion ☐ Level 6: Refinement

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Student’s and I will discuss the obvious difference between us and
plants. Then we will create pros and cons list why it’s better to be human vs. plant. Lastly, we will talk about
our DNA or Cell make up that makes who we are possible. Using the Bubbl.us site we will watch the
embedded links I have preselected for them.
Lesson idea implementation: using my Mind Map, together students will get to take vocabulary words and
moved them into the categories. This assessment will show me what they already know. After we explore
cells, together as a class we will just work on human(animal) cells and break down what they do and search
for videos to add to our class Mind Map, this product we will share on our class page

I will then put students into teams, and let them create Mind Maps for plant cells, these will be shared on
page but as highlights, so a few days then rotate to next group. The students will educate themselves beyond
class materials and use technology to locate more information they can share. Students will then chose one
animal or plant and for weekend homework create a Mind Map around the subject and follow given rubric.
Reflective Practice: This to me is a great show of whole group, small group and then individualized learning.
As a whole group we do a review and cover what they need to know, we then add technology to further their
understanding and make the learning more interesting, then we move into small groups where they take
what they have learned and replicate it with more room for creativity less lead by me teacher, and more
influenced by them, then finally assimilate what they learned in class into a subject of their choice and create
individualize products to further show them how technology can contain their creativity and help them share
it in a unique way.
