Activity 2- Biodiversity

Narrative Report

People depend on biodiversity in their daily lives, in ways that are not always
apparent or appreciated. We need biodiversity for its invaluable ecosystem services,
providing oxygen, food, clean water, fertile soil, medicines, shelter, protection from
storms and floods, a stable climate and recreation. Environment includes the living
and nonliving things that an organism interacts with, or has an effect on it. As a
student I observed things in our environment and categorized it with living and non
living things. In living things I saw trees, plants, flowers, cats, dogs, bird, sky, and for
the non living things we have solar panel, bike, motors, tools, bottles. These are things
we can find in our environment. After doing this kind of observation or this activity I
question myself what can individuals do to slow the loss of biodiversity? Since
consumption of resources is a root cause of biodiversity loss, we can consume less
and be more mindful about what we consume. We need to leverage our purchasing
power to help protect biodiversity by consuming products that do not harm the
environment. It shouldn’t be difficult for people to protect the environment and we
can do this in many simple ways like reduce the amount of waste, disposing waste
properly, stop using poly bags, recycle or repair things that can reuse in a new way or
purpose instead of disposing or throwing it away. reduce water wastage, energy
conservation, minimum use of electricity.
