2.1 Preliminary data

Type of structure: Multi-storey rigid jointed frame (G+3 type)
Zone: V (Building location is in Assam)
Height of first floor: 4.0 m
Floor to floor height: 3.35 m
Size of columns: 300 Χ 300 mm
Size of beams (longitudinal as well as transverse): 300 Χ 450 mm
Depth of slab: 120 mm
External walls: 250 mm thick including plaster
Internal walls: 150 mm thick including plaster
Material used: M20 (concrete) and Fe415 (steel)
Bay width in direction transverse to critical frame (Fig 2.3): 3.7 m (total no. of bays=11)
Bay width in the critical frame: 4.6 m and 2.3 m

2.2 Loading Data

Dead Load (DL)

Terrace Water Proofing (TWF) = 1.5kN/m2

Floor Finish (FF) = 0.5kN/m2

4
Weight of slab = 25D kN/m2, where D is total depth of slab

Weight of walls
External walls (250 mm thick) = 5kN/m height (20 @ 2.5)
Internal walls (150 mm thick) = 3kN/m/meter height (20 @ 0.15)

Live Load (LL)

Live load on roof = 1.5kN/m2
Live load on floor = 3.5kN/m2

Earthquake Load (EL)

𝛼ℎ = ( ) ( 𝑎 ) ( )[Cl 6.4.2, IS 1893(Part 1):2016]
2 𝑔 𝑅

𝑍 = 0.36 (Zone V) [Cl 6.4.2, Table 3, IS 1893(Part 1):2016]

𝐼 = 1.0 [Cl 7.2.3, Table 8, IS 1893(Part 1):2016]
𝑇 = 0.09 ℎ⁄√𝑑 [Cl 7.6.2, IS 1893(Part 1):2016]
Where, h = height of the building
d = base dimension of the building
𝑇 = 0.09 (4+3.35+3.35+3.35)/√ (4.6+2.3+4.6)

= 0.09(14.05)/√11.50

= 0.372

𝑅 = 5.0 [Cl 7.2.6, Table 9, IS 1893(Part 1):2016]

𝑆𝑎 /𝑔 = 2.5 [Fig 2A, IS 1893(Part 1):2016]

∴𝛼ℎ = (0.36/2) × (2.5) × (1.0/5.0)

= 0.09
