Culture in Singapore

The culture of Singapore is a combination of Asian and


European cultures. Influenced by Malay, South Asian,
East Asian, and Eurasian cultures, Singapore has been
dubbed as a country where East meets west. Singapore
history dates back to the third century. Now we can
discuss some major culture which related to
international business.

Language in Singapore: According to the Constitution of Singapore,


the national language of Singapore is Malay, which plays a symbolic
role, as Malays are constitutionally recognized as the local peoples of
Singapore. Also according to the constitution, the four commonly
used languages of Singapore are English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.
We can see a warning sign in the four official languages of Singapore
that is found in all Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations.

Religions in Singapore: Religion in Singapore is characterized by a


diversity of religious beliefs and practices due to its diverse ethnic
mix of peoples originating from various countries. The most
followed religion in Singapore is Buddhism, A large majority of
Buddhists (33.2%) in Singapore are Chinese. Most of the major
religious are present in Singapore like Islam (14%), Christianity
(18.7%), Hinduism (5%), and Sikhism or other religion (0.6%).
Festivals in Singapore: The major public festivals reflect
the mentioned cultural range, including Chinese New Year,
Buddhist Vesak Day, Muslim Eid ul-Fitr and Hindu Diwali
(known locally by its Tamil name Deepavali). On August 9,
Singapore celebrates the anniversary of its independence
with a series of events, including the National Day Parade
which is the main ceremony.

Politics in Singapore: The politics of Singapore takes the form


of a parliamentary representative democratic republic
whereby the President of Singapore is the head of state, the
Prime Minister of Singapore is the head of government, and
of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the
cabinet from the parliament, and to a lesser extent, the
President. Cabinet has the general direction and control of
the Government and is accountable to Parliament. There are
three separate branches of government: the legislature,
executive and judiciary.

Economy in Singapore: The economy of Singapore is a highly


developed and free-market based economy. The Singaporean
economy is a major Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) outflow
investor in the world. The Singapore largest companies such as
Singapore Airlines, SingTel, ST Engineering and MediaCorp. And
the main Exports product is electronics, chemicals and services
based business. To developed economic sector Singapore has
taken measures to promote innovation, encourage
entrepreneurship and re-train its workforce.

Education in Singapore: Education is a backbone of a nation. The education system in Singapore


aims at excellence for its students, offering various choices in preschool, primary, secondary, and
post-secondary education also included children attend private or international schools.
However, the first steps into the education system in Singapore usually start with preschool.
Singaporean children attend preschool up to the age of six, getting prepared for primary school.
After six years of primary school, children
move on to secondary school. The
