Stimulation Experience

The stimulation experience for forty-eight hours limitation by disengaging the functional

ability of one or more of your own senses. The functional ability that I choose is of the deaf, poor

verbal ability of speech disorders. (Smart, J. 2016) People who are deaf are characterized as

socially isolated, intellectually weak, behaviorally impulsive, emotional immature. None of these

stereotypes have been confirmed. Further, these examples demonstrate that stereotyping can

occur in very sophisticated and scholarly settings. The perpetuation of these stereotypes was as

education, science, scholarship, and research. The day I had started was on the weekend on

Saturday, it was a shock from the start, I instantly had defensive retreat, then denial kicked in

right after. The shock experience was memorizing event that was not expected, I thought I was

somewhat prepared for this experience, due to knowledge of the disability, have been around

family that are deaf, speech disorders. The different emotions that I was experiencing of silence,

no verbal communication, even got the whole family to be involved in the whole experience

exercise. It sure was life changing, I felt very uncomfortable, scared, it took a lot of adjustments,

to get rid of the frighten emotions, it was stressful, had some self-questioning, needed adjusting.

It was hard to do everything, like daily task, enjoyment, communication with my family, with

myself. Its like your use to sound, noise, no worries, but that instantly all that changed for me, it

was so hard for me to adjust, adapt to situation that I am now deaf, have nonverbal functions.

The hardest quest for me was not others, it was myself acceptance, my ability, realize my

disabilities. The environment I was in was home, yard based, it had to minimized, limited on the

first day but was very challenging in every way possible. The second day was a bit better, was

public, away from home, experiencing other attitudes and behaviors in the public was a mystery,

everyone was different. The people I had encountered with before they knew I had the disability,

as they knew of me being deaf, non-verbal suddenly became a game changer, things got

uncomfortable. They started to stereotype, use pity, lowered expectations, had lack of privacy,

like does anyone know sign language, she cant hear or talk, the person who was working

basically yelled it all out, at the bank, store, basically everywhere I went. It was overall

exhausting, emotionally, mentally, and physically. The problem was the loss of communication,

how it affects my overall body responses, emotions, stress, depression, anxiety that cause a result

of functions, in many different areas of an individuals life. This causes severe intellectual

disabilities, affect academic, social, and vocational functioning.
