July update
JULY 2010 EDITION, VOLUME # 1

Happy Summer Key Clubbers! Hope you’ve been

doing your summer work… in this issue:
The Laguna Creek Key Club board has been hard at Pg1 NEWS: Update from the
work this summer to make the upcoming school year successful. Editor
The upcoming year will be MONSTER-PACKED of new projects.
We have been planning to make sure this is one of the best KEY Pg2 FOCUS: Fundraisers &
Club years you will ever have! Like this Saturday, at Eppie’s Great
Laguna Creek’s Beastly Barbecue
Race, we will be helping canoes out of the water and moving it
around all while standing in the cold water of American River on Pg3 REFLECT: Past Events
the hot summer day. Then on the 22nd, we will be having a “state
fair” outing. We will be assisting seniors around their self-created
Pg4 June B.O.M.: Kevin Liang
state fair and maybe even play a few games with them. Following
that on the 23rd, we have the DCM and Elk Grove High School’s Contacts & Resources
Water dodge balloon extravaganza! Join us for a chance to hang out
with friends and cool down with a blast from a water balloon. Come
to Elk Grove Park on the 30th to beast it up at Laguna Creek’s
Beastly Barbecue. You can support Laguna Creek High School and PTP by enjoying the company
of friends, playing games and sports, eating, and just plain chilling. Finally, we end the month with
a carwash at the Nugget. Hang out and wash some cars to help raise money for Laguna Creek. Yes,
this month is only the beginning of the MONSTER-FUL year; we have plenty more in store!

With Monster Love,

Jenny Voong

6/6 TOP Soccer June events
As part of Project Care, we buddy clubbed with Franklin High
School Key Club and Pleasant Grove Key Club to help them play
soccer. We taught them how to kick the ball and ran drills with
them. We guided them to make goals and enjoyed the time
playing with them.

6/12 Painting Plate’s Café

Laguna Creek Key Club had two shifts for this event. Some of us
woke up early in order to help the café start up by painting the
signs and the patio. We also helped clean around the café to
make sure everything was neat and tidy for the opening day.

6/13 Down Syndrome for the Arts

Members took care of adults and children with autism and other
disabilities. Then, we spent the day entertaining them by joining the
other volunteers with karaoke, music, and exercise. The other
volunteers included other KEY Club members, a gymnastics teacher,
and three music teachers who led dances and played songs on their
instruments.

6/13 Plate’s Café: Set-Up, Clean-Up, & Serve

We started out by helping put up decorations and making
the night as festive possible. Then, we spent the entire day
playing children with board games and sports such as
badminton. Then as the day came to an end, we helped
clean up, making the Annual Alumni Event for St. John’s
Shelter a success.

Kevin Liang
JUNE BEAST OF THE MONTH

Although the Summer is our time to relax, one stands tall in the name of
service; our beast of the month for June is Kevin Liang! He took one for the
team by waking up for the morning shift on the 12th to help paint Plate’s
Café. He returned once more to Plate’s Cafe helping clean, set-up, and serve
by putting together chairs, carrying food and equipment to and fro the truck
in order to make the night successful. He spent the rest of the day
entertaining kids and mingling with buddy clubbers from Franklin Key
Club. Kevin rose up to the occasion and claimed the title of dedicated
volunteer by lending a hand at the Red Shoe Crawl. He stayed for the entire
seven hours, welcoming people at the designated restaurants and traveling
the distance. Not only did he receive a commemorative t-shirt and lanyard
for this event, but by showing his dedication to Key Club, he has earned the
even greater honor of being the June Beast of the Month.
