ADAPTATION OF GOOGLE CLASSROOM AS ASSESSMENT TOOL IN TEACHING ARALING

PANLIPUNAN FOR ALTERNATIVE DELIVERY MODE STUDENTS

INTRODUCTION

Education is a right of every individual because it serves as a stepping stone to have a decent
life. The Department of education main program to ensure that every Filipino acquire the right to
education is the EFA or education for all. Part of this program is the Alternative delivery mode or
ADM. The programs were developed to address the problems of seasonal absentee learners and
congested classrooms in schools. One of the proposed solutions to address increasing demand for
quality secondary education as well as the problem of increasing dropout rate is the provision of
alternative delivery modes for secondary education (Gatbonton, 2015). The off-school group utilizes
self-instructional modules, while those inside the classroom use the learner’s materials and
textbooks provided by the DepEd (Figueredo,2017).

Teaching in ADM program is an extra challenge for teachers, they need to follow the
curriculum guide use by the regular class in teaching ADM students. They only meet the students
once a week that is why they need to provide assessment tools to make sure that they can provide
the quality education that department of education require. This is the reason why the researcher
chooses this research topic. Teachers can now use several educational technologies, along with the
traditional classroom setup, to enhance the learning environment for the students (Azhar, 2018).
Educational technologies are often incorporated in a classroom setting to allow learning to be
personalized and independent for the students (Graham, 2006) In 2014, Google Apps for Education
(GAFE) launched Google Classroom. The application is free to use for teachers and students which
makes it an ideal fit for developing countries, where the budgets are limited. It can act as a learning
management system in schools, colleges, and higher education institutes. Teachers can effectively
utilize classroom time using Google Classroom.
