GMO vs.

Organic food

Which of these food types is more economically viable given the current economical context

The world’s population grow fast as time goes by. Every minute of the day there are new born babies
which add up to the uncontrolled growth of the world’s population. As the population grow, the necessary
needs must grow fast as well like foods. In a day, a person eats three times a day and sometimes they
have snacks too. Talking about foods, producers needs to think of how to address the needs of a congested
population.

Genetically modified organism (GMO) or Organic food? Which is more viable given the current
economical context? Practically speaking, we need something that is easy to produce and enough to
provide the necessities of an individual. Genetically modified foods are those whose genes are interrupted
by another gene which is usually from a virus or bacteria which is designed to change how the food is
grown. So technically speaking, the normal growth of foods will be different. For example, an organic
potato which only produce little numbers of tubers will be enhanced into a bigger size and more number
of produced products. GM foods are basically created to provide the needs of a fast growing population
because producing organic foods consumes a lot of time. GM foods is a big help to the world for they grow
fast, bigger in size, bigger in number and it has a low price.

On the other hand, GMO has also its cons that should be considered in consuming GMO products.
First, in the production process there are now super weeds that emerges that resist the normal herbicides.
Second, some GMO’s produces now their own toxins that led to resistant bugs. Next, is that humans who
consumes GMO’s also now ingest these kinds of toxins that may cause them a disease or worse may
develop a cancer. And lastly, some crop yields are disappointing in a sense that there are weird and creepy
foods that are produced.

Despite the cons, one should bear in mind the benefits they can get, may it be positive or negative,
especially in the health aspect. Yes, GMO products are less in price but do not consume too much, for it
may cause you to pay more out in doctor bills.
