Summary—Chapter X: In the Name of the Best Within Us

Dagny, Rearden, Francisco, and Danneskjold, who are considered as the strikers planned to rescue Galt.
They used the airplane of Francisco to fly towards Colorado. The locomotive of the Comet breaks down in
the middle of Arizona. The conductor told Eddie Willers that the engineer is already trying to fix the
problem, but based on his uncertain expression in his eyes, it tells them that there is nothing they can do.
Eddie is furious and disappointed. He is determined to hold on to the railroad and his faith and trust in the
world. When the crew and passengers are being rescued by a caravan, Eddie refused to leave the train.
With the complete crumbling of the stealers’ means of life, the citizens of the mountain valley are finally
prepared to go back to the reality of the world and reconstruct them based on their culture and beliefs.

The locomotive of the Comet, eastbound from San Francisco, breaks down in the middle of a desert in
Arizona. The conductor informs Eddie Willers that the engineer is working on the problem, but the look of
resignation in his eyes implies that nothing can be done. Eddie is angry and frustrated. He had worked
relentlessly to restore service. He is bitterly determined to hold on to the railroad and his faith in the world.
When the crew and passengers are rescued by a caravan of covered wagons, Eddie refuses to desert the
train.

With the complete collapse of the looters’ way of life, the residents of the valley are finally ready to return
to the world and rebuild it according to their beliefs.
