Like A Star On Earth

Reflection Paper

The title of the movie is ”Like a star on earth”. Its about an 8 years old school boy, who has a
disorder known dyslexia. He constantly gets into trouble, he would rather be alone, play by
himself, than to play with other kids. The actor Darshel Safary played the role of Ishaan
Avasti is very different from other kids same his age. He mostly scored below average in
most all of his subjects and that made him teased by his classmates. Almost everyone
around him , from his parents, to his siblings, to his teachers are very much frustrated with
him. They see Ishaan as a lazy, slow and lack of interest in things and discipline. By his father
will, he was sent into a boarding school hoping he would be more closed watched and be
more disciplined. The enters the character of the teacher, Ram Shankar Nikhumb portrayed
by the actor Aamir Khan. He is an art teacher for children with disabilities and he also
experienced dyslexia first hand that is why he did not judged the child’s condition but rather
helps others understand the condition. He put extra effort into Ishaan’s condition so he
would learn more in reading and writing. Positive outcomes seen from his fruit of labour.
Ishaan begins to read and write.

The movie taught us not to judge others just because they are different from everybody. We
should assess first the cause/ main problem so we can work with it. There is always hope if
we would see the brighter side. In the case of Ishaan if he was, he would end up in a much
more worse case scenario and might ended up dropped out from school. We should put more
extra attention and guidance to those students or any children that needs our support to
thrive. We should encourage rather than discourage to let them express themselves and let
the hidden talent comes out and enhance their intellectual capacity.

It was a great movie, a tear jerking, funny and more importantly inspiring. There were
moments like the father realized that he is closed to losing his son. The actors portrayed the
character so well. As ever, Aamir Khan executed the character with justice. He child actor,
Dasheel Safary makes me feel it was not acting, his character portrayed so well to the point I
felt it was not just a play. Over all the movie deserves to be watch over and over again.
