The Imitation Game is an American historical drama featuring Benedict Cumberbatch

and Keira Knightley. It is directed by Morten Tyldum and produced on 2014. The film is
based on the biography by Andrew Hodges called Alan Turing: The Enigma. It is a story
about British cryptanalyst Alan Turing, who break the enigma, the German coded
messages during the world war 2. The film starts when two policemen, investigate Alan
Turing. During the interrogation, Turing tells about his time working on Bletchley Park
during the second world war. During his early years, Turing was often bullied because of
his pale and bland personality. He suffered from extreme sadness and isolation until he
met Christopher Morcom, who is the one who introduced him to the field of
cryptography. During the said friendship, Alan Turing develops a romantic feelings for
Christopher, but he soon dies from tuberculosis. After Germany invaded Poland, the
British fulfill their promise by declaring war on Germany on 1939. Turing was assigned
by British Codebreaker Alastair Denniston. He joined a team of cryptographer made up
of John Cairncross, Peter Hilton, Keith Furnan and Charles Richards. The goal of the
team was to decipher the infamous German Enigma Code, which the Nazis use to
communicate. During the beginning of the mission, Turing had a difficulty on working
with his team and considered them to be unskilled. Because of that, he often works alone
to design a machine that will decode the Enigma. Denniston refused to fund the machine
so Turing sent a message to Prime Minister Winston Churchill who makes him the leader
of the team and fund the project. In search of skilled cryptographer, Turing places
difficult crossword puzzles on newspaper. Joan Clarke, passes the test and help the team
to have a better chemistry. The first machine that was made called Christopher cannot
decipher the Enigma because the Germans reset them each day. Denniston once again
entered the scene and orders it to be destroyed and have Turing fired. Fortunately, the
other cryptographers threaten also to leave if Turing was dismiss. Clarke plans to leave
because of the wishes of her parents but Turing realizing that she needs the help of Joan,
proposes marriage which she gladly accepts. During the wedding reception, fellow
cryptographer Cairncross finds out about Turing’s homosexuality but told him to keep it
a secret. After overhearing a conversation with a female clerk, Turing realized that he can
program the machine to decode words that he already knows exist in certain message.
After making adjustments, the machine breaks the Enigma but Turing warns that they
must not decode every German message so that they will not realized that the code is
broken. Later, Turing discovered that Cairncross was a spy and he confronts him about it.
Cairncross states that the information about the machine will benefit them because they
are allies and he threatens to disclose Turing’s sexuality. Turing later revealed to Clarke
that he is gay and she has now no obligations to remain at the Bletchley park. After the
war, their work was destroyed and they was told that they must not revealed what they
have done. Turing later is convicted of gross indecency and undergoes a chemical
castration. On June 7th, 1954, Turing committed suicide. After decades on 2013, Queen
Elizabeth granted Turing pardon in honor of his achievements.
The Imitation game is an important film, especially in this day and age because it
highlights that the sexuality of a man do not hinder his skills and worth. We all know that
the fight for equal rights and treatment by the LGBT community is still on-going and
based on the current trends will continue for a long time. It is really saddening that all
they want was the same rights that the heterosexuals get but they got so far was abuse,
mockery and ridicule. The LGBT community is one of the talented part of our society
and we must not thwart their efforts in being themselves. Instead, we must support them
wholeheartedly so that they can contribute to the general good for our society. As we can
see from the Imitation game, some of them are brilliant, even capable of changing the
world, but how can they do that if instead of new ideas and creative pursuits, they worry
about the simple rights that the states should give to them. We must feel regret and guilt
for them because ever since, they are considered the black sheep of the society, the do no-
goods and the inferior among us. There is even the self-righteous who see them as a
sinful and immoral, not worthy to the privilege of a common man. We must not see them
as that but instead see them as a fellow human beings, yearning for the same rights that
we’re enjoying. We must work with them and not against them and focus on love and
respect so that we can advance our kind. Think about the countless Turing that was not
given an opportunity to contribute for the goodness of mankind. We must focus our
thoughts and energy on the things that really matter and work together before it is too
late.

The Imitation game is such a fantastic movie because it tells a story not only about our
past, but also our present. It does not only tells us about the problems of history, but also
of our present. The film can open our eyes to the good instead of the bad of our fellow
homosexuals. The film successfully portray the skill of a homosexual and bringing
Turing’s achievement and legacy to the wider audience. The best part of the film for me
was the acting of Benedict Cumberbatch, who like on his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes
extraordinarily played the part of Turing who liked his previous role has a magnificent,
yet eccentric mind. I would recommend it for people who wants to learn something great
about our past and the struggle of one man that greatly changed the course of our history
