Study of effect of vacuum furnace on different metal working processes

Abstract: This research paper will study the construction and working of vacuum furnace and its
effect on different metal working processes. A furnace is a device used for high-temperature heating
for various applications in metallurgical and non-metallurgical industries. This paper briefly describes
about the transformation of a standard furnace into a vacuum furnace. A vacuum furnace is a type
of furnace in which the product in the furnace is surrounded by a vacuum during processing. Vacuum
furnaces are used to carry out processes such as annealing, brazing, sintering and heat treatment with
high consistency and low contamination. This paper will also discuss the effect of application of
vacuum on varied metal working and forming operations. The absence of air or other gases
prevents oxidation, heat loss from the product through convection, and removes a source of
contamination. This enables the furnace to heat materials at very high temperatures and to produce
products of very high quality. Lastly the paper will mention about the latest developments in vacuum
furnaces and how vacuum furnaces can be amalgamated and applied to various other metallurgical
operations.
