AUDIT REPORT

Livguard Baddi
Flow audit of Condenser Pump on 5th August 2019.
Equipment used- Ultrasonic flow meter, Portalok 7S

1. Condenser Pump
Application – Condenser Pump
Model – NB 80-160/147 11 KW
Design parameters- 181 m3/h @ 15 m

Actual Measured Parameters

Flow= 90 m3/h , Head = 7-8 meters , Velocity = 3.3 m/s

Observations
This pump is installed for cooling tower application. As per the technical design of the pump,
we are facing the low flow issue at site. We observed that the suction and discharge line of
the pumps are under designed. The suction line of the pump is 4” and delivery line
connected to 8" common header is just 3" in diameter. The suction line has 1 bend without
fillet radius. The 4” of suction line can only carry approximately 97 m3/h of flow. We have to
modify our pipeline as per following recommendations.

Calculations
Existing Pipeline
Diameter of existing pipeline = 102 mm
Discharge = Area X Velocity
Q= 0.16014 x 3.3 m/s x 3600
= 97 m3/h
We have measured actual flow around 90 m3/h at velocity of 3.3 m/s with our flow meter.

1
Recommended Pipeline
Discharged required by the system = 150 m3/h
Area = Discharge/ Velocity
Designed velocity is considered 2 m/s to minimise head loss
Therefore, r^2= 0.042 m3/s = 80 mm
2 X 3.14
Hence, the minimum diameter of suction line and delivery line should be 6” to achieve
designed flow from the pump.

Recommendations for Pipeline

We recommend the Livguard management to modify their existing suction and delivery
pipeline to 6” diameter. At the same time we recommend to install long radius bend on
suction lines to maintain minimum resistance to the flow. Since the pumps are working in
negative suction, low NPSH(r) pumps are recommended.

2. Process Cold Water Pump

Application – Condenser Pump
Model – NB 80 ,30 KW
Design parameters- 158 m3/h @ 38 m

Actual Measured Parameters

Flow= 88 m3/h , Head = 40 meters , Velocity = 3 m/s

Recommendations for Pipeline

We recommend the Livguard management to modify their existing suction and delivery
pipeline to 6” diameter. At the same time we recommend to install long radius bend on
suction lines to maintain minimum resistance to the flow. Since the pumps are working in
negative suction, low NPSH(r) pumps are recommended
