Numerical 1

A wooden log of 0.6 m diameter and 5 m length is floating in river water.

Find the depth of wooden log in water when specific gravity of the log is
0.7.
Numerical 2

Find the density of a metallic body which floats at the interface of

mercury of S.G. = 13.6 and water such that 40% of its volume is
submerged in mercury and 60% water.
Numerical 3

A steel pipe (S.G. 7.7) conveying a gas has been laid across a river bed.
The pipe is completely submerged in water and is anchored at intervals
2.5 m along its length. If the pipe is 60 cm in internal diameter and
62.5cm in external diameter, calculate the buoyant force / meter and the
upward force on each anchorage.
Numerical 4

A body of dimensions 1.5 m x 1 m x 2 m, weighs 1962 N in water. Find

its weight in air and specific gravity.
