Brach Chief
Classification, Standards, and Rules Review
North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality
217 West Jones Street
Raleigh, NC 27603

Dear Mr.Manning,

I’m emailing you to ask you some questions regarding your positon working with classifications,
standards and rules review and how it can help with more proactive stormwater measures to help
try to stop erosion. Stormwater pollution seems to be something that a lot of people haven’t
really heard about before. It seems that especially in a big city like Charlotte where the weather
is temperamental, you can get up to half a foot or nothing at all and when it does downpour it’s
not good for the surrounding area’s because of the large amount of construction in the area.
Having construction can affect erosion significantly because of all the changes that are
happening to the slope of the surrounding area. When you are required to have rules and
standards for groundwater and surface water, do you think there is an adverse effect on water
pollution?
Some questions that I have to ask you are;
1. How well are the state’s groundwater and surface water standards and rules
implemented?
2. What are some ways that cities in North Carolina can help prevent pollution with
stormwater from the water aspect?
3. What are some rules that need to be put in place for groundwater it comes to stormwater
pollution?

I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to not only read my letter but to also think
about the questions that I have asked. I look forwarding to hearing back from you and the
responses that you have for the questions asked.
