Background
Health Guru is the trusted and familiar home where they know they’ll find a
healing touch. It connects them with everything they need to take good care of
themselves and their family – assessing health issues, finding the right doctor,
booking diagnostic tests, obtaining medicines, storing health records or learning
new ways to live healthier.
Healthcare providers can also harness the power of Health Guru as the definitive
platform that helps them build their presence, grow establishments and engage
patients more deeply than ever.
Our Role
Health Guru approached us when the MVP project was jeopardized. Within three
months we managed to get it up and running again, after improving the overall
user experience and rewriting the platform almost from scratch. That way we
managed to launch the basic feature of the platform – laboratory results online
consultation. Making sure that the project is safe, we went on to build other key
features: medical consultations, ordering house visits and an e-commerce
platform, where patients can buy necessary laboratory tests.
Due to the fact that Health Guru’s solution is so innovative, working on the project
was preceded with serious preparation in user research field. In order to learn
more about medical staff’s current situation and their work, we carried out a
qualitative research (inquiry) and a quantitative one (interviews).
On the behalf of our research we designed High-Fidelity Wireframes (Prototyping)

& User Interface from scratch – as a UI/UX and We collaborated on product design
and user experience design for Patient and as well as on Professional App for
Doctors.
Persona, Scenario and User

Journey
Ramita has been using Health Guru app service ever since she moved to
Chandigarh after graduation. Health Guru was highly recommended by her co-
workers. For example, Ramita is nearsighted and her optician is affiliated with
Health Guru, She recently learned about Health Guru app and want to see if it can
help her health and wellness.
Competitor Analysis
We research more than 10 various medical apps in the market.
Locate a Doctor
“I called my insurance and they couldn’t find this doctor in their coverage
plan, so then I used my insurance’s online tool to find a foot doctor myself
from scratch. Hooked up the 3-4 doctors nearby to me and then I picked up
the highest rated / most reviewed doctor among those 34.”
The current doctor searching services are not well integrated with real user
journeys. A better example could be Justdial, where users could get
influential factors like distance, rating, and the price at a glance and eases the
decision making.
Unnecessary information
Detailed address and schedule are unnecessary for the first search. It is
unlikely for patients to sacrifice doctor’s quality for a slight distance
difference. Plus it is hard for many people to judge the location through listed
addresses. Patients who search doctors through a mobile app by specialty are
unlikely to need an urgent care at the fingertip. Same as distance, it is not a
priority comparing to cost and quality.

Health Is a big issue. Lack of transparency makes information look

untrustworthy. It requires users to put more effort into making a choice.
Schedule an appointment
Because scheduling over the phone is a hassle, I’ll usually give up pretty
quickly what their customer care suggest. The best solution I picture in myself
Is some kind of grid calendar time visualization, within a second I can see all
the weekly availabilities of doctors.
The current doctor appointment scheduling services haven’t well-considered

users’ need. Better examples could be calendar apps, where users could
quickly match their own availabilities with the doctor.
Repetitive operation required

In most cases, users could afford about one-week timeframe for
appointments, and they are likely to adjust their flexibility to match with the
doctor, Displaying availabilities by day asks users to keep tapping to check the
next availability and translating the visualization into calendar arrangements
to be consistent with their schedule.
Less intuitive visualization

The existing apps view makes It harder to recognize events based on the
timeline. It Is also more difficult to hack records based on conditions.
Manage Prescriptions
“Every office has its own set of tools and ways of handling prescriptions/orders
etc, but they’re all disconnected from each other. Some doctors have an online
tool, most do not have. Some doctors/hospitals you have to keep all the papers
they gave you, and then others you may not have everything on paper, so then
you need to call them. As a patient, you usually deal with several different
offices, and you don’t have a central place where you can check everything.”
The current medication management services focus on reminder function.
They are mostly targeting at seniors, chronicle, and critical patients. There are
few products targeting at regular people with common defects like
nearsighted.
Isolated feature
The concept of doctors updating electric prescription didn’t consider patients’
experience outside the digital world. The one-direction also limits patients’
autonomy.
Overwhelming information
An over-loaded list makes users confused and exhausted. It requires users to
process a lot of information before a move to the next step while also
increased unnecessary operations. A good product only needs to do one job
WELL.

straight away into wireframing due to the tight delivery deadline!

Users can use this medical app to manage their own health and wellness, such as
to book doctor’s appointment or book medical test or manage health records
automatically.
According to industry estimates, 500 million smartphone users worldwide will be

using a health care application by 2015, and by 2018, 50 percent of the more than
3.4 billion smartphone and tablet users will have downloaded mobile health
applications.

Usability & Customer

Experience Testing
Above, are the final screens for Health Guru app. After the Usability Testing
sessions, we went back to drawing board and reworked each screen to address all
of the problems encountered by users during usability testing. Looking forward, I
would like to conduct more user testing sessions and work with a developer to
release the app. Communicating with different stakeholders, like doctors and
clinics, big hospitals would broaden the perspective and increase the reach of the
application.
Creating Health Guru App was an incredible journey. Not only, We learned every
phase of the UX design process but also we were able to apply our UX expertise,
by creating this case study. Although part of the process was tedious, We
genuinely enjoyed each and every stage. I am incredibly grateful for those that
participated in the process and our friends and mentors who supported us every
step of the way.
