OUTSTANDING RESEARCH
Loyola has a strong research culture. It aims at promoting multidisciplinary research and education in
Arts and Humanities, Sciences and Commerce.

 About 455 Ph.D. research scholars carry out research under 81 research supervisors.

 Loyola is the only Arts and Science College which figured out in Current Science magazine for research
contributions to national development.

 Loyola Research Park has been established to promote the research culture among UG and PG students.

 Loyola is the only Arts and Science College in India to be recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research
Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India.

 The Central Board of Direct Taxes, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India has
recognized the quality scientific research done in Loyola College by the approval accorded to it on
01.04.2011 of tax exemption under clause (ii) sub section 1 of section 35 of the Income Tax Act 1961. This
approval enables 175% weighted deduction from the Gross Total Income to the donors of Loyola College
Society for the purpose of scientific research.

 Entomology Research Institute (ERI), Loyola Institute of Frontier Energy (LIFE) and Loyola Institute of
Social Science Training and Research (LISSTAR) are institutes of excellence.

Entomology Research Institute (ERI)
Entomology Research Institute is one of the Centres
of Excellence in Loyola College, Chennai. It was
started in 1963 by Prof. T.N. Ananthakrishnan. It is
recognized by the University of Madras to conduct
doctoral programme. It has 6 full time Faculty,
3 Emeritus Scientists and 25 Research Students. ERI
aims at creating a better world through research,
publications and extension activities.

Loyola Institute of Frontier Energy (LIFE)
LIFE is an interdisciplinary and collaborative research
institute in Loyola College started by Rev. Dr. Francis
Xavier, SJ, in 1995. The thrust areas are: Energy,
Environment, Bioethics, Awareness Education to
Students and the Masses. Today, 11 voluntary
Faculty from the departments of Chemistry, Physics,
and Life Sciences are engaged in active research
with 36 Research Scholars pursuing Ph.D., besides
a number of M.Phil., and M.Sc., project students. It
is recognized as one of the Centres of Excellence in
Loyola and also one of the two research institutes of
Loyola enjoying the benefit of 175% tax-exemption.

Loyola Institute of Social Science Training and
Research (LISSTAR)
LISSTAR is a Social Science Research unit of Loyola
College. It was established in 2007 by the Jesuit
Management to focus on research, training and
publication. LISSTAR publishes an Inter-disciplinary
National Journal called Social Glance. It aims at
disseminating new knowledge in the sphere of
Social Sciences and Humanities. LISSTAR also
undertakes collaborative research and programmes
with advanced research centres such as Centre for
Development Studies (CDS) Trivandrum, RGNIYD,
UNHCR and with other research institutions.

Human Excellence
The School of Human Excellence
(SHE) is a special academic unit
of Loyola College committed to
offer Holistic Formation to every
loyolite. Formation is central to Jesuit
academic mission and thereby the
Jesuit Higher Education commission
adopted this model as an academic
discipline in Loyola College. This
formation process is oriented by
a team of formators (Professors
with proven experience in life skills
training) who play a central role

Resource Centre for Differently
abled (RCDA)
Resource Centre for the Differently
Abled (RCDA) was established
and inaugurated on January 16,
2006. It was set up as the Model
Resource Centre of Disability
Services (MRCDS), the first of its
kind in the nation to cater to the
needs of the differently abled. It
aims at empowering such students
in their studies and co-curricular
activities. MRCDS is equipped with
many specialized devices to enable
the visually challenged to grow
intellectually and it also has special
devices to help other categories
of differently abled students in the
campus. At present, 110 visually
challenged students of the college
are making use of the centre.

who come for a week to Loyola and

Toastmasters Club: Toastmasters
International is a non-profit
educational organization that teaches
public speaking and leadership skills
through a worldwide network of
clubs. Headquartered in Englewood,
Colo., the organization's membership
exceeds 357,000 in more than
16,600 clubs in 143 countries. Loyola
College has commenced this club
since January 2019 and there are 22

Loyola gives preference to the students from the
neighbouring districts. The inclusive tradition of loyola
welcomes students from other states and countries.
Women students can apply for all the Post Graduate
courses and also for B.Sc. VISCOM, B.M.M.
(Animation), French Lit., 3D Animation, B.A. (Hons)
Accounting and B.Voc. Digital Journalism in Under
Graduate courses.
Students who have completed the Tamil Nadu Higher
Secondary Course or any other course, recognized
by the University of Madras as equivalent to it, are
eligible for admission to the bachelor’s degree course.
The applicant who has passed the following
examination should submit an eligibility certificate
from the University of Madras.

 SELECTION PROCESS
Interview
At the time of interview, the original documents
of all certificates uploaded along with the online
application should be produced for verification.
Information will be given only to those who are
provisionally selected. They have to present
themselves along with their parents for interview
with the Principal on the date mentioned in the
call letter.
Failure to be present on the scheduled date and
time will lead to cancellation of admission.
The information of selection will be sent to the
registered Mobile No. via SMS. It will also be
posted in the registered online portal.
The application status will also be available at
www.loyolacollege.edu.
Screening Process for UG
Screening process for all shortlisted candidates
for UG courses (B.Sc. Viscom, B.M.M., B.Voc.,
B.A. (Hons) Accounting, B.Com. (Hons) and
BBA France) will be conducted. The date of
screening process will be published in the
online portal.

Entrance Test for PG
An entrance test for all candidates
applying for PG courses will be conducted
on 01.06.2019 (Saturday) at 09.00 AM
in the college followed by a personal
interview.
The last date for submitting the
online application for all PG courses is on
27.05.2019 (Monday).
Fee Payment
The provisionally selected and admitted
candidates have to pay the prescribed fee
at the Axis Bank - CMS counter at
Loyola College campus.
Mode of payment is only by cash.
Withdrawal
The enrolled students are expected to
complete their course of study. They
may not withdraw from the college
without informing the Principal in writing,
otherwise they will be liable to pay the
fee of the period for which their names
remain on the roll. The students who
are provisionally admitted cannot claim
for a refund of fee if he/she decides
to discontinue the course (subject to
conditions).
