Basic questions about Enterprise Vault and its


integration with Exchange Server 2010 DAG

1. It is required to create an archiving task for each of the servers of the DAG?

Yes. If one of the servers belonging to a DAG group (let´s call it Server1) becomes
unavailable, all the active databases of that server will be moved to another server of
the DAG (let´s supose it is called Server2)

If Enterprise Vault was archiving the database when it was active in Server1, in order to
continue with the archiving when the database becomes active in Server2, an archiving
task needs to be created and up and running for Server2.

This is extensible to all the servers of a DAG, so we need to have an archiving task for
each of the Exchange Servers belonging to the DAG.

2.- It is required to create a System Mailbox for each of the members of the DAG?

No, only one it is required. However must be created in one active database in the DAG
so it replicates across servers belonging to the DAG.

3. Journaling and DAGS

There is no reason why a journal mailbox cannot be on a database being copied within
a DAG. If you do so there is no need to create journaling tasks pointing to all DAG
member servers, the one task is sufficient (the journal mailbox when created as a target
is linked to a task and doesn’t move on failover).Journaling should continue on failover
of the DB. You may see a small interruption of the journaling task if it is in the middle of
processing a journal mailbox or message as it will receive an error from Exchange. This
will result in a 1 minute pause of the task. After which hopefully the DB has successfully
been mounted on another member of the DAG and the journal task will continue.The
journal task really doesn’t have any specific logic to continue (other than recreating
MAPI sessions and re-opening the mailbox) as the Exchange Client Access Server (or
array) and DAG handles the DB failover and makes sure MAPI traffic talks to the correct
DAG member.

Researches on a wide array of technical topics such as Operating Systems, Infrastructural
Technologies and Veritas Software Products
Applies specialized knowledge, analytical practices and procedures to analyze, diagnose and
resolve issues in unique and often complex enterprise environments
Effectively communicates procedural and technical issues to internal and external
customers/stakeholders in an enterprise environment
Participates and possibly leads conference calls with customers and 3rd party Teams/Vendors
Assesses when it is necessary to engage or escalate to senior resources to resolve complex issues
Manages own schedule of cases, which includes determining priority levels and negotiating and
setting expectations with customers
Handles Business critical, management escalation and high severity issues with diligence and drives
them to resolution
Participate in new product releases and beta cycles to ensure information and training requirements
are met to support new products
Interface with Sales, Services, Engineering, Product Management, and Support Management when
necessary to prioritize customer requests
Define and track bugs for Development, and offer innovative ideas to improve product quality
Mentor, train, and help develop the skills of new Technical Support Engineers as well as peers
Comfortable working in a shift model
Develop documentation and the Technical Support Knowledge Base to reduce troubleshooting time
and drive faster issue resolution
Engage in on-going training and departmental development, along with self-learnings

Diploma Holders / Graduates / Post Graduates
3+ years of working knowledge and experience troubleshooting applications and platform faults in
Enterprise environments
Customer support experience at an enterprise level and corporate environment is desired
Dealing with customer issues over the telephone on a daily basis using a call tracking system
Providing feedback to customers on their issues as they are progressed
Ensuring customer satisfaction by providing a professional service and swift resolution to all
customer issues
Recreating problems in house and providing evidence where bug fixes are required
Accustomed to conducting research to find answers to questions and solutions to problems from
various sources
Understanding of support escalation matrices and leverage the same as required
