"That so many of us are here today is a recognition that the threat from climate change is serious,

it is urgent, and it is growing. Our generation's response to this challenge will be judged by
history, for if we fail to meet it - boldly, swiftly, and together - we risk consigning future
generations to an irreversible catastrophe."- President Obama

Humans are facing a potentially staggering expansion of dangerous heat over the coming
decades, with rapid and widespread increases in extreme heat projected to occur across the world
due to global warming. Today's scientists point to global warming as "the biggest global health
threat of the 21st century. Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the
average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be
permanently changing the Earth’s climate. It is a very serious matter that we can’t neglect. It
greatly affects all forms of living organisms and non-living, from land to air and to water even
from polar to tropics. It gives alarming effects that all creatures in the world are threaten of their
lives. According to an academic blog, Eight degrees Fahrenheit, it may not sound like much but
for the world in which we live, this small rise will have grave consequences, ones that are
already becoming apparent, for every ecosystem and living thing—including us. Higher
temperatures are worsening many types of disasters, including storms, heat waves, floods,
wildfires and droughts. Many climate scientists agree that significant societal, economic, and
ecological damage would result if global average temperatures rose by more than 2 °C (3.6 °F) in
such a short time.

Even in the past climate change is changing, for how many years Philippines experienced
numerous typhoons because of climate change and the most memorable one is the Typhoon
Yolanda that hits several provinces of the Philippines. It is also evidenced during the times of our
ancestors climate change is present when the land bridges sinks connecting Philippines to China.
At the end of the Pleistocene (the earlier part of the Quaternary, from 2 600 000 to 12 000 years
ago) there was a major extinction of large mammals, and animals like the woolly mammoth
became extinct worldwide because of climate change. One of the warmest periods in the Earth’s
history was the Cretaceous, from 140 to 65 million years ago. The Earth was then several
degrees warmer than today and is described as having a ‘greenhouse’ climate. The poles were
warm and at times there may have been no ice on them at all. There is even evidence of
temperate forests growing in the Arctic and Antarctic. As ‘greenhouse’ temperatures were
reached, the world’s ice melted, which caused significant sea level rise. In the previous year’s
climate change is still varying sea level rise, as well as exceptionally high land and ocean
temperatures over the past four years. This warming trend has lasted since the start of this
century and is expected to continue. These key climate change indicators are becoming more
pronounced. Carbon dioxide levels, which were at 357.0 parts per million when the statement
was first published in 1994, keep rising – to 405.5 parts per million in 2017. For 2018 and 2019,
greenhouse gas concentrations are expected to increase further.

According to the National Climate Assessment, human influences are the number one cause of
global warming, first one is the greenhouse effect traps some portion of heat in such a way
that our planet is safe from reaching freezing temperatures while human enhanced
greenhouse effect leads to global warming. This is due to burning of fossil fuels which increase
the amount of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane and oxides of nitrogen). Consumption,
pollution and solid waste greatly contributed to global warming because it produces greenhouse
gases as well as energy hoarding and oil crisis regulating carbon dioxide emissions, which leads
to global warming. These causes’ leads also to the changes in the climate pattern simply climate
change. These affects the human health Excess heat can cause stress which may lead to blood
pressure and heart diseases, crop failures which are a direct consequence of heating up of earth,
can cause a decline in human body resistance to viruses and infections. Moreover, it is an
established fact that warmer temperatures lead to dehydration which is a major cause of
kidney stones, high rise of sea levels and many other effects.
Since global warming and climate change is a prevalent issue of today’s generations the truth is
we can’t stop it but we can mitigate those effects through adaptation, use of alternative
renewable sources of energy and alternative fuels. The goal for adaptation is to reduce our
vulnerability to the harmful effects of climate change by adapting a life in a changing climate
which involves adjusting to actual or expected future climate. The use of alternative energy
sources which includes the wind, solar, bio mass, geothermal and hydro. The most noteworthy
point in using these sources is their clean nature. They do not produce any sort of pollution or
toxic gases that can lead to global warming. They are environmentally friendly and pose no
threat to ecological balance. This will ensure a healthy atmosphere and stable climate for the
future generations. The use of alternative fuels can stop global warming since it does not produce
carbon dioxide. Burning fossil fuels was causing temperatures to rise in the earth’s atmosphere,
discovering sources of cleaner burning fuel is an essential step towards enhancing the quality of
our environment.

Global warming is a big hazard and appropriate measures must be taken to tackle this
serious problem. This problem is not only causing trouble to the human beings but also to
animals and plants. Melting of polar ice caps will lead to floods which can cause mayhem
everywhere. Rise of sea levels will devastate agricultural and fishing activities. To embark upon
these problems, some remedial steps must be timely taken which are stated above which includes
the use of renewable sources of energy, climate change adaptation and the use of alternative
fuels. As a part of the Paris Agreement, humans must maintain the temperature of 1.5 °C (2.7
°F) above preindustrial levels to help the world in order to avoid the worst of the predicted
effects of global warming and climate change. Innovative solutions must be brought forward to
end this hazard once and forever.
