OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard

The different hazards caused by coastal processes (waves, tides, sea-level changes, crustal
movement, and storm surges)

B. Performance Standard

Conduct a survey or design a study to assess the possible hydrometeorological hazards that your
community may experience. (Note: Select this performance standard if your school is in an area that is
frequently hit by tropical cyclones and is usually flooded.)

C. Learning Competency

Give practical ways of coping with hydrometeorological hazards caused by tropical cyclones,
monsoons, floods, or ipo-ipo S11/12ES-Ih-37

II. CONTENT

Natural Hazards, Mitigation, and Adaptation

Powerpoint presentation, video clip, pictures

IV. PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new Ask the students to identify areas prone to hazards
lesson brought about by tropical cyclones, monsoons, floods,
or ipo-ipo
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Show pictures that includes the hydrometeorological
phenomena. Let the students identify what kind of
hydrometeorological phenomena is shown in the
picture.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson Let the students view some video clips that will show
the occurences of hydrometeorological phenomena in
the Philippines. Get the reaction of the students.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing the new  Discuss the practical ways of coping with
skills #1 hydrometeorological hazards caused by tropical
cyclones, monsoons, floods, or ipo-ipo
 Divide the class into 6 groups with 7 members
and explain the mechanics/ procedure of the
activity.
 Do the Activity: The Disaster Plan
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing the new
skills #2
F. Developing mastery Go back to the activity “The Disaster Plan”, let the
(Leads to Formative Assessment 3) student present their work in front of the class
G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills If your area is not prone to any hydrometeorological
in daily living hazard, would you still consider a disaster plan in view
to climate change? Justify your answer.
H. Making generalizations and abstraction about the What are the hazards caused by coastal processes?
