Please refer below for references from the scriptures for Hare Krishna Mahamatra:
Ananta-Sam?hita:
hare kr?s?n?a hare kr?s?n?a kr?s?n?a kr?s?n?a hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare
s?od?a-saitani namani dvatrinsad varn?a kani hi
kalau yuge maha-mantrah? sammato jiva taran?e
"Hare kr?s?n?a hare kr?s?n?a kr?s?n?a kr?s?n?a hare hare hare rama hare rama rama
rama hare hare. This hari-nama maha-mantra consists of sixteen names and thirty-two
syllables. In Kali-yuga this mantra can deliver all jivas."
"He Mahadevi! Look! In Kali-yuga there is no easier way to eradicate sins than by
sri hari-nama. It is therefore essential to propagate sri hari-nama among the
general populous. The people in Kaliyuga can be easily liberated from the greatest
hell by performing san?kirtana of this maha-mantra. To chant the maha-mantra, first
chant hare kr?s?n?a twice, then chant kr?s?n?a twice, then hare twice. After that,
chant hare rama twice, then rama twice and again hare twice. One should chant,
articulate and perform sankirtana etc., of Sri Kr?s?n?a's maha-mantra, which
destroys all sins."
In the Radha Hr?dya Khan?d?a of the Brahman?d?a Puran?a, Romahars?an?a Suta prays
to Sri Veda Vyasa as follows:
"He Vibho! He Prabhu! Please instruct me in the brahma svarupa nama mantra of Sri
Hari which is the bestower of all perfections."
"O my son, I will certainly instruct you in that maha-mantra, the acceptance of
which a person in the bodily conception of life can be liberated and even a
drunkard can quickly become purified and attain all perfection. I will instruct you
because you are a mahabhagavata and a suitable candidate. Just see! The sixteen
word maha-mantra, hare kr?s?n?a hare kr?s?n?a kr?s?n?a kr?s?n?a hare hare hare rama
hare rama rama rama hare hare, can destroy the sins of the three worlds. The four
Vedas do not mention a method for achieving liberation from material bondage
superior to the chanting of this maha-mantra."
Ananta Sam?hita also states:
"All sastras agree that the hare kr?s?n?a maha-mantra, which is composed of sixteen
names and thirty-two syllables, is the illustrious mantra to deliver the jivas in
Kali-yuga. Those who neglect this maha-mantra and accept any other process, due to
their own imagination or the imagination of others, are actually disobeying guru
and sastra. If someone asks, 'Why is this sixteen word hare kr?s?n?a mantra the
maha-mantra?' then the following answer is given.
'Among all of Kr?s?n?a's names' no name other than Hari can easily take away sins,
great misfortune and ignorance. No name other than Kr?s?n?a can deliver prema. And
no name other than Rama can bestow liberation.' This is why the maha-mantra is
composed of these three primary names. Secondly, these sixteen names are an
invocation. Om?, namah?, klim?, svaha, etc., are not required to make the mantra
more potent. For this reason it is called the maha-mantra."
The Hare Krishna maha-mantra is mentioned in various scriptures as the only means
of deliverance in this age of Kali:
hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare
iti sodasakam namnam kali-kalmasa-nasanam
natah parataropayah sarva-vedesu drsyate
The sixteen names of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra: hare krishna hare krishna
krishna krishna hare hare, hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare destroy all the
inauspiciousness of the age of Kali. This is the conclusion of all the Vedas.
(Kali-santarana Upanisad from Krishna Yajur Veda)
"The holy name of Lord Rama certainly gives liberation, but the holy name of K???a
transports one to the other side of the ocean of nescience and at last gives one
ecstatic love of K???a." (Chaitanya-charitamrita, Antya-lila 3.257
harir eva samaradhyah sarva deve suresvarah
hari nama maha mantrair nasyatpapa pisacakam
All the grievous sins of one who worships Lord Sri Hari, the Lord of all lords, and
chants the holy name, the maha-mantra, are removed. (Padma Purana, Svarga Khanda
50.6)
76. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama
Rama Hare Hare
77. The Lord said, "Regularly chant japa of this maha-mantra.
78. In this way you will attain all perfections. Chant at any time and in any
circumstance. There are no other rules for chanting.
79. Gather together, five or ten, in your own homes, clap hands and sing kirtana of
these holy names.
80. You may also sing these words:
Purport: "While remaining in a solitary cave on the bank of the Ganges at Phuliya,
Srila Thakura Mahasaya loudly chanted the names of Krishna and passed his days and
night remembering the pastimes of the Lord. Sometimes he would chant the sixteen
name, thirty-two syllable, maha-mantra loudly (uccaihsvare), and sometimes he would
chant softly (mrdusvare). Every day he would complete the chanting of three hundred
thousand holy names, or in a year he would chant one hundred million names of Hari.
Some people consider that chanting the names of Krishna in a solitary place is in
the category of "upamsu-japa," or "chanting very mildly." They say that this maha-
mantra, or chanting the holy names of the Lord, should not be heard by others; only
the person who is chanting should hear. If the lips move, or if the holy names are
recited, then they will automatically be heard by others. But if such persons lack
faith in the Vaisnavas who chant the holy names of the Lord, then by the influence
of Kali they dare to quarrel with those Vaisnava chanters."
