The Atmosphere

This activity will look into what probable weather condition may occur given a specific
type of cloud. Two hours will be allotted for you to finish this activity.

Introduction

When viewed from beyond Earth, the atmosphere appears as just a thin cover that
stretches upward a few hundred kilometers before giving way to the vacuum of space. But
there is more to our atmosphere than meets the eye. The composition of the atmosphere means
that enough heat derived from solar radiation is absorbed near the surface to make our planet
livable. This solar radiation supplies the energy necessary for cloud formation, precipitation and
wind generation. We observe changes in the cloud formation, precipitation, wind and other
factors of weather above our heads in the form of daily weather patterns. These relatively short-
term changes assume a uniform atmosphere composition- that is what makes them
predictable. On the other hand, most scientists agree that the composition of the atmosphere
is gradually changing because of human activity and that such alteration will inevitably lead to
modifications to other components of the earth system (McConnell & Steer, 2016).

Learning Objectives

At the end of the activity, the students will be able to;

1. Identify cloud formations; and
2. Explain how the conditions of the atmosphere determine the weather.

Learning Tasks:

Follow the procedure below.

1. Take a selfie picture with cloud as the background.

2. Create a hashtag/caption that standouts and best describe the moment.
3. Print/develop the picture with the caption on it. (Size: 3R)
4. At the back of the picture, write down the type of cloud, date and time taken, brief
meaning and description of the cloud formation, and the weather associated to the
cloud type.
5. Do not forget to write your name and section.
6. Make sure to cite your references.
