Using your knowledge of social institutions, answer the following questions briefly. Express your answer
in 3 sentences, and write it inside the box provided. (10 points each)

1. Why is the family considered the basic unit of society?

In the family, the children first learn to establish relationships, the tolerance of differences in taste, the
morals which are necessary for the enjoyment of ordered liberty, the virtues which are necessary for
morality and freedom to thrive.

2. Why is there inequalities and how can you minimize it?

Social inequality can emerge through a society's understanding of appropriate gender roles, or through
the prevalence of social stereotyping. To minimize inequalities, I could promote action. Discrimination
against certain groups of population might isolate them and limit their access to opportunities for a
better wellbeing. Media campaigns and advocacy efforts, which identify this kind of discrimination and
promote the participation of these areas, can make people with disabilities, migrants, religions groups
and indigenous groups more confident about their inclusion in the Philippines.

3. How does religion justify the illnesses suffered by individuals?

Religion tells people whether their actions are bad or good. It is experienced by individuals and by
collectives and the suffering of one person impacts those around them, their families, and their
communities. In each faith tradition suffering tends to be regarded as a disruption

4. How does education make you an educated person?

Being educated means you will learn how to decide for yourself. An educated person doesn’t blindly
accept what they are told; they go see for themselves. They can discern truth from error, regardless
what they were told

5. The trend nowadays is that more and more people strive to increase their self-esteem through the
social media. Using the symbolic interactionism theory, answer the question “What does the number of
subscribers (followers, subscribers, and friends) mean to you?”

For me, subscribers simply mean people that pressed the like button. Some people may think it means
how many people likes or care for them, which is not true. Subscribers are people who have your
visibility.
