BROTHERHOOD
Because of their unique backgrounds, each and every student at St. Mary’s Prep brings an individual
set of talents, strengths, and capabilities that not only define the school, they also define the individual.
This open, diverse culture is brought together through a brotherhood that is a reflection of itself. It is
impactful because of the bond our students form through their individual abilities. It is incomparable
to anyone else because of the uniqueness of our surroundings. As a student at St. Mary’s Prep, YOU
embody the brotherhood.
SPIRITUALITY
The beauty and serenity of our historic campus allows spirituality to be reflective. Our environment,
the holiness of our grotto, and the faith within our two campus chapels remind us that spirituality is the
cornerstone to shaping our young men into members of societies around the world.
EXCELLENCE
St. Mary’s Preparatory fosters an educational atmosphere that builds students to be international figures
in society and in business. With a one-of-a-kind academic model that allows students to be immersed
in actual college classes located on our campus, our affiliation with Madonna University creates an
exceptional academic environment that provides an education you will find nowhere else.
Our students are given the opportunity to achieve success through a diverse series of sports as well as
a variety of extracurricular activities. Life-long friendships are developed through the teams and clubs
our students join as members of a long-standing tradition of success.. These young men are mentored
by exceptional teachers and coaches who live by the values of our institution.
DIVERSITY
St. Mary’s prides itself on the fact that the school has been educating and leading young men from
around the world for nearly a century and a half. This has allowed us to constantly refine our model
based on the needs of students from a variety of countries and diverse cultures. We continually
review our processes to provide an atmosphere that is comfortable and safe. We are also constantly
reviewing our campus programs to ensure that we are creating a global experience that students
remember for a lifetime.

Our prestigious faculty includes PhDs, college professors, and published authors. Instructors stress dialogue
over lecture, and incorporate a variety of pedagogies in our open classroom concept. A wide range of
extracurricular activities are academic based: Robotics, Forensics and Debate, National Honor Society,
Foreign Language Clubs, Math Club, and a one-of-a-kind student run radio station that allows our students
to express their classroom interests in a capacity
not bound by walls. Our students are encouraged
to see the world outside of campus where they
can experience a variety of new found interests,
as well as diving deeper into local cultures.

not a formula; it
is not a test. It is
a relationship.

it is about intimacy.

“By attending Mass here, I recognized that God has chosen me.
He was calling me to become His child, and He wants me to have
a good life through gaining knowledge and serving those around
me.”
Bowen (Aaron) Liu (P’14)
Diversity of humanity. Our belief is that spirituality is the foundation of making great men. The physical assets
of our campus define that. Our students walk along sidewalks that Pope John Paul II walked himself three
times in his lifetime. Our students learn about faith in buildings where actual saints once sat as students
themselves. Spiritual leadership is fostered throughout the campus in developing men who have gone on to
become spiritual leaders themselves including Adam Maida (class of1948), Cardinal and former head of
the Archdiocese of Detroit. St. Mary’s Prep students and faculty attend two full Catholic Masses a week.
Our conviction is to develop young men that become great leaders. We understand the need for them to be
part of the community outside of campus. Students are required to participate in community service yearly,
and the organizations they involve themselves with are often reflective of their own personal passions and
cultures. Our faculty and families also become involved in community
service initiatives. We feel this act of mentoring our students is the
best way for them to understand the value of their involvement in
the community. Our very active Campus Ministry program works to
keep our students involved in a multitude of spiritual activities that
follow their individual interests. Students are often further blessed with
visits and Mass celebrations from prominent religious figures. These
include national and international Cardinals and Bishops.

“St Mary’s has been great to me. The brotherhood here is real
strong. It’s a great place to be for anyone that’s trying to succeed in
athletics.”
Anthony Enechukwu (Class of 2020)
As an extension of our brotherhood, we look at athletics as an outlet for students from a wide variety of
cultures to help build their body, as well as their mind and soul. Blessed with a history of long-standing
athletic success, students are encouraged to participate in sports to both utilize their unique talents and to
share in the experience of serving as teammates. St. Mary’s Prep offers fourteen different sports, and at least
one sport each season is non-cut, giving all students an opportunity to participate.
Champions and mentors on and off the field, our coaches foster an environment encouraging our student
athletes to challenge themselves while inspiring others. Our world champion crew program - that has
participated in regattas on two continents - has produced Olympians, multiple Ivy League rowers, and
countless state champions. This
incredibly unique sport takes students
who have never participated in rowing
before and makes them Ivy League
athletes. Rowers train on Orchard
Lake, as our campus is nestled upon
its beautiful shoreline. Many of our
international students have become
significant members of this elite
program, as well as other sports.

“Dorm life is a family unto its own in the St. Mary’s community, and
it is by living with their St. Mary’s brothers day after day that these
young men learn the true meaning of brotherhood.”
Father of Joe Carlini,Class of 2016
At St. Mary’s Prep, we want students to be part of a vision they identify with regardless of their background.
One that is a reflection of who they are and what they believe in. Through their relationships, young men
develop themselves into respectable Christian gentlemen, pillars of their society, community-minded men,
and loyal friends. Bringing individuality to every aspect of our campus, our students create their own
brotherhood that aligns with their unique cultures and a goal: to make a difference. A young man of St.
Mary’s is supportive, encouraging, and motivating. All are welcome into our brotherhood.

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s is not new to being an international institution. Since 1885 our preparatory
school has been a leader in educating students from around the world. Our history has included students
from over 30 countries, including a variety of cultures and backgrounds. St. Mary’s Prep is a Michigan
based boarding school situated in a location that perpetuates learning in a serene location. Our
campus features a 5-square mile lake as well as a 125 acre campus with historic
architecture. Southeast Michigan is considered one of the more diverse areas of the
United States and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s is reflective of this. This one-of-a-kind
experience allows students to enter college with an on-campus living experience.
Students are able to build study habits necessary to be successful in any educational
institution. Boarding also gives students a thorough multi-cultural experience, with a
host of international students residing in the dormitories. The honorable experience
of being a boarding student at St. Mary’s Prep invites our
students to live in a communal setting at the high school
level. Our collegiate campus setting and schedule further
prepares students for post-secondary institutions.
on campus Polish art gallery influences our artistic students through a variety of famous pieces. Family
involvement is another strength behind St. Mary’s Prep. A mandatory Parent Involvement Program
(PIP) is an integral part of ensuring student success on a variety of levels. Our students are
extensions of their families, and family involvement is crucial to the fiber of our campus.
