Title of project: The Light in Their Eyes

Your name: Will Vestergaard Form: 10L Class: 10VP22

Client:

Everplay is a small child's toy manufacturer based in Sweden. They have been producing children's
toys since 1985 and focus mainly on plush toys and miniature playsets (small ovens, cars etc.).

Communication need:

The client requires a design a light that can be used by children to go to the toilet or parents’ room.
The light should be very easy to use and comfortable for the operator. The light should come in
various colours or even shapes to suit the child. It should be easy to maintain and have an efficient
power system to reduce battery usage.

Context:

Everplay want to expand into the lighting market. They’ve noticed a growing trend in children's
lighting: lamps, nightlights and torch-like toys and would like you to design a light for them. Children
are not able to operate complex devices, so simplicity is key. Children also tend to be clumps and/or
rough with items, so a rugged design is important ant for long lasting durability.

Constraints:

The light should be able to hold with one hand by the user, the child. Because of this it should be
lightweight and comfortable for the user. The light may need to be waterproof, as accidental
droppages may see the light find itself in wet areas. In addition to this, the light should also be
dishwasher safe, as children may get the device dirty, allowing for easy cleaning. The deice should be
very simple to use so that very young children can operate it without any significant instruction. The
design of the light should be produced in many colours so that there will one to suit any child of any
gender. The Budget is “large” so prototyping and research can be extensive.

Target audience:

The light is for children aged 4-10 and should be desirable for both genders. It should be designed to
be easily operable by children, durable, and should be designed so that it can be produced in
multiple styles/colours. This design will be sold worldwide, so it should be suitable for multiple
cultures and countries.

Presentation format:

The client needs some 2-point perspective drawings of your design to show the executive board,
with at least one rendered to show a possible colour/pattern combination. Once the board have
chosen a design, you will have to produce some orthogonal drawings which show dimensions and
adhere to Australian drawing standards. A final model will then be delivered so we can present our
upcoming product at the world toy expo.
