I am so excited to welcome you and your child to the fifth

grade! To ensure personal growth takes place, I plan to make
our classroom environment inviting and nurturing. Each
student and myself will work together to create an
environment that lends itself to your child and our class
reaching its highest potential.
I understand that you are trusting me with your child this
year, and I am honored to have this privilege. For your child

Conferences: My goal is to have a conference which each Related Arts Schedule

Daily Classroom Procedures:
 Student Planners: These will be given to each
student to use as a source of communication and
information. Students should record homework
assignments each day. I will sign the planner each
day to ensure correct homework information was
recorded. Please check your student’s planner each
evening to verify the completion of homework
assignments and to keep our communication
flowing.
 Teacher webpage: Please visit the class

information updates. You can also visit

 Graded work: Work will be graded according to
the District guidelines explained in the student
handbook. A variety of assessments will be used in
order to measure student progress. Graded papers
will then be stapled together and given to students
each Monday. There will be a cover sheet for
parents/guardians to sign for each week verifying
that you have seen grades for your student.
 Horizons: Horizons will be conducted one day per
week. No new material will be covered during this
time, however students are still responsible for
homework on those days.
 Weekly Newsletter: Students will receive a
newsletter each Monday with a list of upcoming
events and test dates as well as other important
information. Please look for these each Monday
evening.
 Band and Strings: Band and strings will rehearse
every Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:45
to 8:30am. Students will not be permitted to keep
their instruments at school, and will need to bring
them to and from school on those days.
 Homework: Students will typically have spelling
and math homework Monday through Thursday
nights as well as additional assignments as
needed.
 Missing homework: In the event a student does
not complete a homework assignment, I will make
a note of this is in their planner. Parents will be
asked to sign the agenda in this case. The weekly
graded work report will also reflect the student’s
behavior and work for the week.
 Snack: We will have a mid-morning snack each
day. Please send only healthy snacks – no candy
or chocolate and no soft drinks. Students may
have water bottles at their desk.
 Bathrooms: Students will be given a class
bathroom break twice a day. Also, students will be
given two personal bathroom breaks a day. They
will be required to sign out every time they leave
the classroom. If your child has a bladder control
problem, please send a note to me so that I can be
aware of this. I am certainly willing to work with
you on this matter.
 Tardies: Every minute of every day is important.
Please make sure you’ve read the District 6 Tardy
Policy in the parent and student handbook. Here is
a brief summary: After 5 tardies the teacher will
call home to make parents aware. If you reach 10
tardies you will receive a letter from Dr. Faulkner.
A conference is held with administration after
receiving the 15th tardy. When a student reaches
20 tardies they will be referred to truancy court.
