Abstract: Sorong Selatan is one of the districts in West Papua has an important coastal area dominated by mangrove. This mangrove
is an important ecosystem to support fisheries resources that are utilized by traditional communities on the coast. Land use change
and overfishing became threat to the sustainability of coastal ecosystems. Marine Protected Area (MPA) is one of the effective ways
to maintain the sustainable use of natural resources. The MPA design is carried out with boundary designs and the participation of
indigenous peoples includes spatial analysis targeting the protection of mangroves, fish resources, and Endagered Threatened and
Protected (ETP) species. The results recommend 132,394 ha need to be protected include waters and land. The process of social-
cultural data integration is carried out by conducting Focus Group Discussion and public consultation involving indigenous tribes.
This result turned out to recommend an area of 338.323 ha covering indigenous tribal areas in Sorong Selatan. Integrating fisheries
data and utilization patterns is also carried out to recommend zones within the MPA. The results show that there are 3 core zones
recommended with an area of 37,367 ha. While there are recommendations for other zones to protect ETP species includes 29,283 ha.
In addition, the results of the analysis also recommend area of customary forest management in land areas that are included in priority
conservation areas based on the results of the analysis.
