CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Floor Wax is a wax-based preparation used to finish and polish floors. It is meant to increase

hardness and glossiness in flooring and create resistance against slips and scuff marks and includes

ingredients like polymer emulsions, urethane and resins to achieve this. There are some major

considerations to take into account for any business owner contemplating how to coat and protect

their floors, such as health effects and durability.

As we all know, Maize, also known as corn, is a cereal grain first domesticated by indigenous

peoples in southern Mexico about 10,000 years ago. The leafy stalk of the plant produces pollen

inflorescences and separate ovuliferous inflorescences called ears that yield kernels or seeds,

which are fruits. Its products are safe, environment-friendly and recyclable.

B. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM/OBJECTIVE

1. The main objective of this study is to see if corn husk can be used as floor wax like

coconut husk.

2. In addition, this study we will see which will last longer, the corn husk or the coconut

husk?

C. HYPOTHESES

This study have the following hypotheses:

1. Corn husk can be used as a material in using as floor wax.

2. Floor wax made from Corn Husk have good characteristics in terms of its smoothness,

odor and use

D. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is going to be significant in houses, schools and other fields. Housewives, maids or

helpers are spending too much money to buy floor wax; with this study, it will help them save

money and buy other important things. This study will also encourage floor wax industries to use

this natural source of floor wax so that they can lessen their expenses in buying chemicals and

other harmful elements. It aims to determine how important on giving value on simple plants.

E. SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This study will focus only on the use of Corn husk. Other parts such as corn, silk, stalk, roots, ear

of corn, tassel and leaf will not be used.
