Post Description

Pay Scale   PAY SCALE Rs. 15,600-39,100 ( PB-3) plus Rs. 6600 (Grade Pay) (Total emoluments excluding T.A. HRA at the time of initial appointment will
be Rs. 43602 /-p.m. approximately).

Age   Not exceeding 40 years as on normal closing date. Not exceeding 45 years for Scheduled Castes candidates and not exceeding 43 years for
Other Backward Classes candidates in respect of the vacancies reserved for them. Relaxable for regularly appointed Central/U.T. Government
Servant upto Five years as per instructions/orders issued by Govt. of India from time to time. For age concession applicable to some other
categories of applicants, please see relevant paras of the ‘Instructions and Additional Information to Candidates for Recruitment by Selection.’

Essential Qualificaiton (s)   A. Educational Qualification


A person shall not be eligible for appointment by direct recruitment to a duty post in Grade IV, unless he holds a Degree in Law of a recognized
University or LLB and unless he has been a member of a State Judicial Service for a period of not less than seven years or has held a superior
post in the legal department of a State for a period of not less than seven years or a Central Government servant who has had experience in
legal affairs for not less than seven years or possesses a Master’s Degree in Law and has had teaching or research experience in Law for not
less than five years or is a qualified legal practitioner of not less than 30 years of age.

Note-
1) The ‘qualified legal practitioner’ in relation to appointment to a duty post in Grade IV by direct recruitment means an advocate or a pleader
who has practiced as such for at least seven years or an attorney of the High Court of Bombay or Calcutta who has practiced as such for at
least five years or has practiced as such attorney and an advocate for a total period of at least five years.

2) A superior post in the Legal Department of a State means that he should have experience in the State Government in a post which is not
clerical and which requires qualification of Degree in Law for appointment to it.

3) The qualifications are relaxable at Commission’s discretion in case of candidates otherwise well qualified.

4) The qualification regarding experience are relaxable at Commission’s discretion in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes in
respect of posts reserved for them, if at any stage of selection, the Union Public Service Commission is of the opinion that sufficient number
of candidates from these communities possessing the requisite experience are not likely to be available to fill up the posts reserved for them.

Desirable Qualificaiton (s)  

Duty(ies)   (i) To give advice on all matters referred by the various Ministries/Departments of the Government of India.
(ii) To look after Government litigation work.
(iii) To conduct court cases and to appear in courts on behalf of the Central Government, wherever required and
(iv) To perform administrative and other works as may be assigned.

Probation   Two years.

Head Quarter   New Delhi/Mumbai/Kolkata/Chennai/Bengaluru. Liable to serve anywhere in India.

Other Details   Indian Legal Service, Group-‘A’ (Gazetted). The posts are permanent.
