COMPANY
ANALYSIS
SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS
Automation and UV technology:
One of our valued customers who housed 15 manual tables
now has as many as seven semi- automatic screen printing
machines. There are many screen printers whose business
has doubled or tripled over the years ever since they
switched over to automation along with UV.

Quality improvement:
Quality in screen printing seems to have come a long way.
Today, with automatic precision machines, it is possible to
get a result that years ago would have been a dream. Let the
world believe that the screen printing process today is faster,
better and cleaner.

Combination of processes:
There has been a growing trend of offset printers / packaging
companies setting up in-house screen printing unit instead of
outsourcing. There are many digital printers who have set up
screen printing units to meet the market demand for ‘total
print solution’. Screen printing is the perfect complement to
offset and it works in tandem to help generate more business.
WEAKNESSES
Education
I would say knowledge is the key to success in any business.
What’s the use if screen printers have fully automatic screen
printing line without having proper knowledge.

In the screen printing industry, there is not only lack of

‘knowledge’ but also lack of ‘knowers of knowledge’.
Inspire of this drawback, over the years, screen printers have
made improvements due to their sheer hard work and
inclination to learn by reading technical articles, attending
exhibitions, seminars etc.

OPPORUTNITIES
Applications unlimited
Screen-printing is a fantastic technology that is used by
many industries with so many old, new and not yet
discovered applications – both flat (plastics, cloth, metal,
thin to thick papers, unpack/sun board, rubber, leather,
wood, glass, footwears, PCBs, ceramics, etc.) and non-flat
substrates, by using appropriate machinery and inks.
Further, this process is also widely used in packaging, labels,
Smart-cards – the list of screen printing application is
endless.

Value addition
What was started as Spot UV – matt and gloss – today with
the availability of various UV special effects, screen printers
have now great chance to excite consumers. The range and
variety of effect is extensive and it provides the marketer,
print buyer and designer with a number of exciting
possibilities.

Use of non-paper substrates

Continuous advancements and developments in polymer
technology, expertise and cost-effective manufacturing,
plastic substrates are replacing traditional materials in many
fields (environmental conditions apply!). These include:
PVC, Polypropylene, HIPS, Lenticular Films, Polycarbonate
etc. Polypropylene Sheets are extensively used for blister
packaging, cardboard boxes etc.

THREATS
Manual screen printing
If our screen printers are catering to industrial printing they
should immediately dump manual screen printing tables as
there are strict quality and delivery requirements in industrial
segment. Company have numerous screen printers who have
switched over to automation due to all the side effects of
manual screen printing – it is tedious, laborious, time
consuming, wastage-ridden.

Use of poor quality raw materials

Use of Out-dated methods
Wooden frames, nylon white fabric instead of polyester
yellow fabric, lack of standard practice in screen making
although it is well known fact that screen is the heart of
printing.

Using solvent although UV available for many

applications.
Perhaps due to these reasons there is a growing trend in India
that more and more OEMs are now setting up their own
screen printing units. For example: Tiles and Ceramic
industry, electronic industry, leather industry, garment
industry, packaging and offset industry and many more. In
these areas, they used to earlier outsource their requirement.

BCG MATRIX
The Boston Consulting group’s product portfolio matrix
(BCG) is designed to help with long-term strategic planning,
to help a business consider growth opportunities by
reviewing its portfolio of products to decide where to invest,
to discontinue or develop products. It's also known as the
Growth/Share Matrix.
The Matrix is divided into 4 quadrants derived on market
growth and relative market share, as shown in the diagram
below.

The-Growth-Share-matrix

1. Dogs: These are products with low growth or market

share. In these areas, market presence is weak so it’s going
to take a lot effort to get noticed. Also, one won’t enjoy
the scale economies of the larger players, so it’s going to
be difficult to make a profit.

2. Question marks or Problem Child: Products in high

growth markets with low market share.
3. Stars: Products in high growth markets with high market
share.

3. Cash cows: Products in low growth markets with high

market share. Here they are well established so it’s to get
attention and exploit new opportunities. However, it’s
only worth expending a certain amount of effort, because
the market isn’t growing and opportunities are limited.
Porter’s five force model
The five forces which one must consider to analyze any industry
are the rivalry between the firms within the industry being
analyzed, the bargaining power of buyers, the bargaining power
of suppliers, the threat of substitute products or services, and the
threat of new entrants (also known as barriers to entry). They are
also shown in the diagram below. Initially propounded by
Harvard Business School Professor Michael Porter, the Five
Forces framework has been accepted as a strategic framework
which one can apply to analyze any industry.
Let's consider rivalry within the industry first. It is common sense
to assume that if the rivalry is intense, average profitability will
reduce. In other words, to increase profitability, firms within an
industry may have to coordinate for collective good. For example,
if the firms want to avoid costly price wars which will ultimately
reduce profits for all firms, firms need to coordinate. However,
this is easier said than done. Frequently, in an industry comprising
of firms large and small, smaller firms tend to lower prices to
increase market share, and ultimately larger firms follow.
Bargaining power of suppliers and customers always needs to be
considered, while analyzing any industry. The threat of
substitutes is important while analyzing an industry. Currently,
with the onslaught of the Internet, traditional media like print and
TV are under attack. Online advertisers like Google and Yahoo!,
two well-known Internet companies, are ensuring that more and
more advertising move to the World Wide Web, at the cost of
print and TV advertising. In short, the Internet and the mobile
Internet have emerged as real substitutes to reading newspapers
and magazines and watching TV.
FINDING &
SUGGESTIONS
Learnings as an intern in the company:

• Improve communication skills.

• Analyze the business situation.
• Establish high standard in professionalism.
• Learnt more than the theoretical knowledge.
• Learnt how to market a product.
• Apply the theoretical knowledge in actual organization.
• Compare practical aspects with theoretical aspects.
• Make quick decision in real situation.
• Learnt to promote and conduct research in business area.
• Promoted the personal knowledge and professional preparation
for future. To properly integrate the theoretical knowledge and
practical work.
• Plan for the future of oneself and learnt how to adjust in an
organization.
• Know how to present recommendations in front of senior.
• Get knowledge of opportunities and threats while entering into
an organization.
• Got exposure to do a work in an organization and also known
about organizational behavior, ethical rules and regulations
FINDING
As we all know that every coin has two aspects one is positive
and one is negative, so I can say that the unit of Thomson Press,
Faridabad, co-operated with me as much as they could but the
support of the organization was not enough to complete my
research efficiently and effectively.
There are some limitations, which affected may project and those
limitations are as follows:
a) Due to the shortage of time period it was not possible for me to
get the whole numerical data.
b) Source of research was mainly internet and fact that everything
in the website is not reliable cannot be ignored.
c) Respondents were not having enough time to devote for my
research.
d) Initially, employees were not very much keen to undergo
training session.
e) Lot of time was wasted in merely convincing the employees to
attend the training session.
f) The company faces the labor problem every year of around
two-three months as the labor goes back to hometown.
g) The company sometimes also face the transporting problem.
h) There are some employees who behave informally in the
working premises.
SUGGESTIONS
• Organizations need to retain existing employees while targeting
potential new comers. Measuring employee satisfaction provides
an indication of how successful the organization is at providing
employee’s individual growth and job security and satisfaction.
• Frequent training sessions must be conducted for the
development of employees.
• Managers must play the role of an efficient trainer on the daily
basis.
• Organization must realize the importance of each employee
individually and provide the necessary training to him to enhance
his skills and to boost up his morale.
• Training sessions must be provided to everyone, at every level.
• Every time new and most effective methods available for
training must be adopted.
• Try to adopt new technologies that their competitors are not
using.
• Make a network that allows its customers to negotiate with them
easily.
CONCLUSION
Thus, training and development is concerned with the structure
and delivery of acquisition of knowledge to improve the
efficiency and effectiveness of organization.
It is concerned with improving the existing skills and exploring
the potential skills of the individual i.e. up grading the employee’s
skills and extending their knowledge. Therefore, training is key
to optimizing utilization human intellectual technological and
entrepreneurial skills.
The firm has earned a lot of goodwill in the market due to its 50
years of running business and link with many known companies
and this is the overall strength for the company.
Though the company lacks knowledgeable employees as labor are
not educated. Though the company have latest technology but due
to unskilled labor there are some of the problem faced by
company.
