A Biblical Perspective

CHIAMAKA OJI
INTRODUCTION
The issue of beauty is a big one in our society, especially among the
female folk. Girls love to be seen and considered as beautiful; that is
natural.

Beauty, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is the quality

or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure
(delight) to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit. Beauty
is a good quality. God, when He created everything, the Bible records,
looked and “saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very
good” (Gen 1:31). Yes, our God loves and approves of beauty. But
mankind, in his usual manner, has twisted God's idea of true beauty,
focusing the quality of what defines beauty just on what can be seen –
physical appearance. This is not to say outward beauty doesn't matter
to God or physical appearance is inconsequential; but the mad pursuit
after this single element of beauty is simply sickening and has ended
up producing uglier girls than beauty queens.

Sandra was a “beauty model” with this – fair glittering skin, slim
figure, pointed nose, sparkling dentition, and every other feature that
describes a beauty model. She flaunts herself so everyone would
notice these attributes, and sure people did. The eye could see the
beauty, but that was all about her. You don't really want to get to know

her because if you do, it will simply blur your sight against even her
physical beauty. Everyone complained about her – girls, boys, men,
women, even her family members. She was this uncouth, manner-
less, arrogant, ignorant girl. But well, she didn't care. She felt she was
beautiful…Like you know, her beauty faded away with time and the
once beauty model was forgotten. Finally, she ended up a miserable
woman because she had no other thing and no friend – all because
she lacked the elements of True Beauty.

Sadly, our society is daily producing more of these Sandras. Little is

done to build inward beauty, while no stone is left unturned in the
search and pursuit of outward beauty.

This crave for physical beauty has led to the invention and use of
various beauty treatments, make-ups and make-over strategies. Their
acclaimed beauty standard is flaunted in magazines, billboards and
other media outlets. A great percentage of women of all ages are
being carried away in this beauty cruise. They can sacrifice anything –
time, money, comfort, and even risk their own lives – just to look
attractive and beautiful in the world's eye.

But you know the thing with the beauty and fashion of this world – it
keeps changing. I mean with every splitting second. You think you've
got on point, then the trend changes. You keep running after it; it

doubles its speed. It never gets tired and you never get satisfied. That
is why the Bible clearly says “the world passeth away, and the lust
thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever” (1 John
2:17).

In a survey by the Dove Company, it was found that - only four percent
of women globally consider themselves beautiful. Two thirds of
women strongly agree that “the media and advertising set an
unrealistic standard of beauty that most women can't ever
achieve.”Also, 80 percent of women agree that every woman has
something about her that is beautiful, but do not see their own
beauty. How startling! With all the beauty treats everywhere…

Well girls, I'm not here to rant about the beauty perception of the
world. I just wanted to give you an insight of how fleeting and
unsatisfactory it is. Now, I want to introduce you to the secret of true
beauty- the beauty that glows….

Not a camouflage, limited, unsatisfactory, repelling kind of beauty. I

mean true, radiant, breath-taking beauty. The kind of beauty that
when you meet with people, you walk away leaving a deep
impression. Not a sensual one; but a sweet, delightful, inspiring one.
That is the essence and meaning of true beauty.

I've read and listened to a lot of things about beauty, but one book

remains outstanding in its idea of beauty. And guess what?

That book is inspiringly written by the Author of beauty Himself.

I mean the God who made the heavens with all its galaxies and the
earth with the unique creatures and wonderful elements found in it.
Don't you think He (the Potter) knows much more about beauty than
we (the clay)?

He knows!

So let's consult His manufacturer's guide (the Bible) for these six sure
secrets….

I'm really eager to discuss them with you.

Since I found these secrets, my life has been really transformed and
I'm getting more beautiful as the days go by (by His grace). *Smiles*

Alright! Ready? Let's go…

This secret is found right in the word BEAUTY.

avour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that
feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. (Prov. 31:30)

God is beauty and the author of it. We all are created in God's image;
hence we have the seed of true beauty in us. However, the fall of man
which opened the gate to sin has marred this beauty endowed in man
by God. This resulted in the vain pursuit of beauty outside God, pulling
man farther away from God.

Beauty that emanates from a relationship with God comes from

inside and reflects outside, while the beauty of the world is just an
outward beauty that has no root within. Focus on this outward
appearance is so fruitless and unsatisfactory just like we've seen
earlier. I know all that because I've been there in some way, and I know
a lot of girls who are still caught up in the beauty rat-race.

It's a complete waste of time and life. Trust me! That's the reason I
want to introduce you to the source of beauty that comes with
satisfaction and fruitfulness. He is the one whose beauty is
incomprehensible and inexpressible.

Just like the branches of an apple tree are attached to its root so as to

get nourishment to enable them bear fruits, we are to get attached to
God so as to bear fruits of true beauty. Sin separated man from God,
but Jesus, the Sinless Son of God gave His very life so we could
reconcile with God and get grafted into Him.

How can one get into this relationship with God?

If you'll do this sincerely, it's just as simple as ABC; because Jesus has
paid the price…
A – Acknowledge that you are a sinner. “For all have sinned and come
short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23).
B – Believe that Jesus Christ can forgive you and cleanse you from all
sins. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son,
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have
everlasting life (John 3:16).
C – Confess and forsake all your sin. “He that covereth his sins shall not
prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall
have mercy” (Prov 28:13).

Note: I don't want you to just read through these three steps and walk
away. If you've not really repented from your sins and asked Christ to
be the Lord and Saviour of your soul, you must please stop now and
do it.
If you don't get this step, every other effort to attain beauty will end
up in the same rat-race. Christ is the only source of beauty that flows

from inside-out. And more than that, you'll be enlisted to be a part of
those that will dwell with Him in the beautiful home He's gone to
prepare for us in heaven (John 14:1).
When you've entered into this love relationship with God, just like
every other relationship, you nurture and build it; so that His beauty
reflects more and more through/in you.
How do you build that love relationship with God?
1. Study His word (the Bible) daily. That's the way you get to
know Him more.
2. Pray always. That's the way you communicate with Him.
3. Fellowship with like-minded people and surround yourself
with inspiring materials.
If you got this first secret done, Congratulation! You're now grafted
into the beauty vine!
Then let's get on with other secrets…
But if you've not, well, still come along. You'll see the reasons why
secret 1 is indispensable.

“If a soul has any beauty, it is because Christ has endowed that soul with His own,
for in ourselves we are deformed and defiled! There is no beauty in any of us but
what our Lord has worked in us."(Charles Spurgeon)
QUOTES CHEST

True feminine beauty is not a complicated formula involving hundreds of rules to

remember. It is not something that requires spending two years at finishing school or
being groomed as a beauty pageant queen. It is the natural byproduct of a young
woman who has emptied herself, given up her own life, and allowed God's Spirit
complete access to every dimension of her inner and outer life.(Leslie Ludy)

nd God said, behold I have given you every herb bearing
seed, which is upon the face of the earth, and every tree, in
the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall
be for meat (food) [Gen 1:29].

You are what you eat! Heard that before, right? The food we eat act as
building blocks for every part of our body.

Just like a wrong design and inferior building materials will result in an
ugly, weak house, a state-of-the-art design with quality material will
give birth to a beautiful strong house.

Also, our body is the temple of the Lord (1 Corinth 6:19); therefore, it
should be treated with utmost care. We must pay particular attention
to what we put into that sacred temple (our body).

Like we discussed earlier, the Bible contains every detail we need to

make our lives beautiful, and in it, God gave us an insight to the best
materials we should use in building our body. The herbs, fruits,
seeds… (Gen 1:29).

Our society is contrarily feeding us with more of the wrong building

blocks – processed foods, bottled drinks, snacks, cosmetics. This has
in turn led to a fast deterioration of every part of the body. To

ameliorate the harm done, some beauticians mix some chemicals
together with over processed brand of our naturals, bottle it up and
sell to us for a fortune, claiming it will improve our health and beautify
our skin. Well, some of their claim appear to be right, at least for a
while, but thereafter heaps loads of health problems both internally
and externally.
If we really desire to stay healthy and beautiful, then we have to do
what the manufacturer (creator) of our body says is best for us.
Furnish and feed on naturals – fruits, vegetables…
This is not a book on diet so I won't spend much time elaborating on
that. But since we are talking about beauty, I'll briefly discuss a few of
these natural foods that are good for your health and skin.

I challenge you, remove the harmful fast foods and cosmetics and
replace them with the following (and more) – you'll be dazed at how
healthy and beautiful you'll be.

Now let's dive in…

1. Tomato: Tomato is a powerful source of the antioxidants,

vitamin C and lycopene (a phytochemical). They are skincare
superheroes that protect you from sun damage, clear up
blemishes and help diminish oily skin. A study presented at
The Royal Society of Medicine in London found that women

who were given five tablespoons of standard tomato paste
with 10 grams of olive oil every day for 12 weeks showed
significant improvement in their skin's ability to protect itself
against UV damage.
2. Avocados: They contain good amounts of vitamins A, D and E
and omega-9 fatty acids (omega-9 fatty acid is one of the
building blocks of healthy skin). All of these nutrients help to
even out skin tone over time when added to your diet
regularly.
3. Cucumber: Cucumber is rich in the antioxidants - flavonoids,
tannins, and vitamin C that help combat the cell-damaging
free radicals generated by Ultra Violet (UV) rays. This makes it
a natural sunscreen, and even marketed sun-protection
creams and lotions with cucumber have been found to have
positive results. Because of its high water and antioxidant
content, cucumber helps hydrate skin and makes it supple.
The skin also has a protein called elastin, which, as the name
suggests, maintains the elasticity of the skin. Cucumber
inhibits the breakdown of elastin caused by the enzyme
elastase, thus tightening the skin and supporting cell renewal
along with building collagen. This makes it an excellent
ingredient in anti-aging formulations.
4. Cabbage: It is rich in vitamins and micro-elements like
vitamins A, C and E, potassium and sulfur. These

micronutrients contain antioxidant, have cleansing effect,
and can nourish the skin as well. Also, cabbage is an excellent
source of indole-3-carbonile. This substance is a powerful
antioxidant that protects the cells against the harm caused by
free radicals, and supports detoxification in the liver.
Detoxifying your liver minimizes toxicities that can build up in
the bloodstream causing dull, blemished skin.
5. Pawpaw: Pawpaw is also a rich source of vitamin C, vitamin A
and vitamin E, which improve skin health owing to their
antioxidant properties. It also contains the digestive enzyme,
papain, which helps decrease redness in the skin by
combating inflammation, and restores the even-toned look
of your skin by accelerating the shedding of dead skin cells
(exfoliates the skin).
6. Lime: Lime is rich in antioxidants like vitamin C, which can be
beneficial to the skin. When used regularly, lime can dissolve
excess oil, prevent the formation of wrinkles, lighten age
spots and brighten skin.
7. Tangerine: It is packed with vitamin A and C which provide
various benefits to the skin and keeps skin diseases at bay.
Their antioxidant properties reduce wrinkles, rebuild
damaged cells (delaying the aging process) and enhance skin
complexion. Tangerine also stimulates collagen production,
which makes your skin supple and smooth. Tangerine facial

mask is prepared by blending four tangerine slices, honey and
yogurt. Applying this mask regularly removes harmful
bacteria and excess oil. Regular use of the mask will leave
your skin fresh, soft and radiant.
8. Guava: It improves skin health and keeps your skin glowing
(prevents wrinkles and aging) due to its rich content of
vitamin C, A, K and antioxidants such as lycopene and
carotene. Also, consuming guava helps reduce stress by
relaxing the muscles and nerves of the body. It enhances
blood circulation especially to the brain, and helps in weight
loss through the regulation of the body metabolism.
9. Mango: Fresh mango is rich in vitamins and minerals such as
vitamins A, C, E, B6 and Potassium. It can be used as skin
cleanser due to its rich content of potassium, which is an
important component of the cell and body fluids. A thin slice
of mango placed on the face for 10 to 15 minutes before bath
helps you unclog your pores and add freshness to the face.
10. Water: Water plays a vital role in digestion, blood circulation,
absorption of nutrients and the elimination of toxins. It is
important in the function of every organ in your body,
including the skin. Just like all other organs, the skin is made
up of cells that require water to function. When your skin cells
aren't sufficiently hydrated, the appearance of your skin
suffers, making you look older than your age. Also, drinking

enough water helps keep skin clear as it does help flush out
toxins through supporting metabolic pathways.

n like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest
apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety… (1 Tim 2:9).

Adorn! That word means - to make more beautiful and attractive; to

decorate, grace, prettify, ornament.

Wow! What do you think about that? Interesting, right?

I told you that God is really interested in making you beautiful and
attractive; He desires that even more than you do. And guess what? In
that Bible verse above, He was actually talking to us women (girls). It's
not that He doesn't want the men (boys) to look beautiful or
handsome; but He created us uniquely/specially and knows that
beauty matters to us.

So before you were even born and then grew up to begin to bother
yourself about beauty, He's already had a plan written out and
prepared for us to beautify our lives with. But before we get into what
these materials for adornment are, I'll point out something to you.

Quickly get back to the meaning of the word “adorn”. What do you
observe? “To make more beautiful”. The word “more” means - to a
greater degree or extent. That is to say, you should have attained a
Website: www.Girlsradiantwalk.com
Page 18

Twitter: www.twitter.com/girls_walk

Email: amaka@girlsradiantwalk.com
degree of beauty that will be a base for adornment (more beauty).
Therefore, something/someone that is dirty and messed up can't be
adorned or beautified. Just like a house with poor architectural
design, crumbling roof, cracked walls, with weed everywhere will look
simply like crap even if the best paint is used on it.

That's why you have to go grab Secret 1 if you haven't. That's the
foundation- the basis of true beauty. Sin makes one's life a total mess!
You have to go back to the architect/engineer (God) and submit to
Him so that He can make something beautiful out of that messy life.
He alone can do that.

Any attempt to adorn yourself without Secret 1 done will simply look
like the house described above – crap.

So sweetheart, quickly get back to the ABC step in Secret 1, do what is

outlined in the steps and get your life beautified.

Now back to adornment…

Telling us on how to adorn ourselves, God said it should be “in modest
apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety.”
Ok! Let's understand these words…
Modesty – having a limited and not overly high opinion of
oneself and one's abilities; observing the proprieties of dress

Page 19
Facebook: www.facebook.com/girlsradiantwalk
Twitter: www.twitter.com/girls_walk

Email: amaka@girlsradiantwalk.com
and behaviour: decent, etc.
Shamefacedness – showing modesty.
Sobriety – quality or state of being sober (temperance and
moderation/showing no excessive or extreme qualities).
You see, from these definitions above, modesty is the key word. It
should then be central to the adornment of a girl desiring true beauty.

Modesty should be expressed in our – deportment and dressing.

Deportment: The manner in which one conducts oneself;

behaviour. A loud, sassy/saucy, boisterous, ill-mannered conduct
doesn't show modesty, and hence makes one less beautiful.
Rather, a girl with a meek and quiet spirit exudes true beauty…
That doesn't mean she is weak and dumb, but she has the
sweetness of Christ flowing through her.

Dressing: How we dress is a significant part of the image we

convey to others – those who know us and those who do not. The
issue of dressing has raised lots of concern, with a majority of
people clearly saying (in words and action) that they have the
“right” to choose how they dress and what they wear. But the
truth is, if you are a child of God, “know ye not that your body is
the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of
God, and ye are not your own” (1 Corinth 6:19). So you don't

Instagram: www.instagram.com/girlsradiantwalk
Email: amaka@girlsradiantwalk.com
decide what you want to do with “your” body. The owner decides
because He knows best.

I remember discussing with some people about the issue of

dressing and someone said that dressing was actually man's idea
and not God's (something in that line). So I quickly picked my Bible
and we went back to the beginning; Gen 3:21 – Unto Adam also
and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed
them.
Yes, when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, the nature of sin
was conceived, and they discovered that they were naked.
Without God's consent, “they sewed fig leaves together and
made themselves aprons (striplings). When God came around he
said “no Adam” (I suppose), then He made “coats of skins, and
clothed them”. Why? So they would cover their nakedness
properly. That is the reason for clothing.

Therefore, any form of dressing that doesn't fulfill this primary

purpose, but rather exposes or emphasizes sensitive parts of the
body - is not of God, is immodest, and doesn't adorn you. Simple!

Do you understand that, dear Christian girl? Because…

Modesty is not – showy or sensual/seductive

Showy: calling attention. The world tells us it's all about me, I
and myself. If it feels good to you, then do it. Show what
you've got; flaunt it… who really cares!
Such life is directly opposed to modesty. Modesty involves
behaving and dressing in such a way as not to draw undue
attention to oneself. As followers of Christ, our actions must
be Christ-centered rather than self-centered. Our primary
goal in all we do should never be to draw attention to
ourselves (physically or sensually), because “… ye are not
your own. For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify
God in your body, and in your spirit which are God's. (1
Corinth 6:19, 20).

Sensual/seductive: I love the way a Bible commentary stated

it - “dressing (behaving) in a way that could stimulate morally
or spiritually impure thoughts or desires in others is as wrong
as the lust that it provokes. While we cannot control what
others think, there are things we can do (or not do) that will
make it less difficult for others to control their thoughts. As
Christians, we must dress and act not just according to our
personal preferences, but also with the spiritual wellbeing of
others in mind (Gal 5:13; Matt 5:28).

Page 22

Women, in particular, must keep this in mind as males are
more sensually stimulated by sight. In these days of sexual
permissiveness, the church should act and dress in a
distinctly different manner than a corrupt society that
throws aside and ridicules God's desire for modesty, purity,
and restraint.”

If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them (John 13:17).

Whew! Girls, hope you are still with me?

Ok! Let's open the next secret box…

Noble, breathtaking, captivating, Christ-centered femininity is truly a sight to

behold. It's a beauty that does not draw attention to the woman, but to Jesus
Christ. It's a radiance that is not dependent upon age, circumstances, or physical
enhancements. It's a loveliness that flows from deep within--the refreshing
beauty of heaven, of a life transformed from the inside out by Jesus Christ.(Leslie
Ludy)

Do not make yourself the subject of remarks either by being overdressed or by

dressing in a lax, untidy manner. Act as though you knew that the eye of heaven
is upon you, and that you are living under the approbation or disapprobation of
God. (Ellen G. White)

will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:

(Psalm 139:14).

Someone said, “what makes a woman beautiful is confidence. If she

looks like she doesn't like herself, she will make everyone around her
feel the same way.”

How true is that? Ok, let's find out…

Yea, I'll tell you about a girl called Stephanie. Stephanie was this cold,
timid, extremely melancholic girl who preferred to always bow her
head while walking into the class. You seldom heard her voice because
she neither asked nor answered any question, and always sat alone at
one corner of the class. She was too shy to talk to anyone; hence she
really had no friend. This low self-esteem repelled people from her
because it was just unattractive.

However, she had a great teacher who knew and believed that every
person has something unique and attractive in her/him. Not only
was she confident in the ability of her students, she could also bring
out the best in them. She drew Stephanie closer to herself and
observed the talents she possessed, one of which was her good

knowledge of English words. She encouraged her to prepare and take
part in the upcoming spelling bee competition. After much coercion,
she obliged and joined the competition. And guess what? She was the
best in the school.

But that was really not all. She was to represent the school at the state
level. Fear seemed to swallow her up, but her teacher wouldn't give
up. On the D-day, her teacher charged her up with the words of
Marianne Williamson–

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest

fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light
not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves,
who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your
playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing
enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel
insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the
glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in
everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we
unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence
automatically liberates others.”

Her teacher's confidence was contagious. She competed confidently,

and walked away the second best. Whew! She was on every lip in the
school. Steph, Steph, Steph… Everyone wanted to be her friend. She
was no longer the isolated, unattractive girl in class.

That's the beauty of confidence – actually, unleashing the gifts in you

confidently!

Because you know what, there is something uniquely special about

YOU; something no one else possesses. That's the reason the
Psalmist said “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully
made: marvelous are thy works and that my soul knoweth right well
(Psalm 139:14).

Knowing who you are in Christ should therefore make you confident.

What Does Confidence Mean?

Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on
something.
Most times, when people talk of confidence, what they emphasize is
“self-confidence.” You see and hear it almost everywhere – “believe
in yourself”. But as Christians, our confidence must be in Christ not in
ourselves (gifts, talents, knowledge), in other people nor in the things
of this world.

That's the reason Paul the apostle rightly said “…and have no

Email: amaka@girlsradiantwalk.com
confidence in the flesh” (Philip 3:3). As Joyce Meyer stated, we could
rather say “we have self-confidence only because He lives in us and it
is His confidence that we draw on.”

So girls, let your confidence be rooted in God, and in the fact that He
has placed unique skills, knowledge and gifts in you.

Taking a look at our society, has it bred more confident girls?

The report of a girls' self-esteem study will give you a clue to the
answer: “7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough, or do not
measure up in some way, including their looks….” (Dove self-esteem
project).

So with all the pursuit to attain the beauty standard laid out for girls,
more of them reflect less beauty because of their low self-esteem/
confidence level.

Once again, that's why I said you really have to go grab SECRET 1 (if you
haven't). Connect with God and experience the confidence that
comes with knowing you are a child of the “King of kings.”

After you've done that, don't stop there - press forward….

Boost Your Confidence Level
Ø Believe what God says about you (1 Pet 2:9)
Ø Overcome fear and self-doubt (Joshua 1:9; 2 Tim 1:7)
Ø Open your mind to training and learning (2 Tim 2:15)
Ø Stay positive and surround yourself with positive-minded
people. (Philip 4:6; Heb 10:25)
Ø Take action towards your dream. (2 Chron 15:7; Jere 29:11)

QUOTES CHEST

The most beautiful women I've ever observed are those that have exchanged a
self-focused life for a Christ-focused one. They are confident, but not in
themselves. Instead of self-confidence, they radiate with Christ-confidence.

maximize their strengths. (Joyce Meyer)

F
inally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of
another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous (1Pet
3:9).

The way you relate with people is a true expression of the beauty
within (inner beauty), which the Bible says is “of a meek and quiet
spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price (1Pet 3:4). True beauty
is indeed a matter of inner loveliness and enduring charm of a meek
and quiet spirit.

Meekness describes a humble, unassuming character that always

shows loving concern for others and put aside selfish interest for the
good of others. The adjective “quiet” refers to an attitude or
behaviour that is not offensive or disruptive.

A relationship with Christ (secret 1) endows one with this meek and
quiet spirit, which is reflected in the way we treat people.

Therefore, a girl possessing this inward beauty should:

1. Be helpful: Help people without being asked. Be it your family

member or a stranger, by helping them, you reflect an inner
beauty.

2. Respect others' opinion: Give other people a chance to
express themselves, even if you disagree with them.
3. Avoid unnecessary fault-finding: Don't be quick to find faults
with everyone and over little things. Don't be critical of
people's mistakes and shortcomings.
4. Be kind and considerate: Pay attention to the needs and
wants of people around you. Genuinely care, show concern
and empathize when they need it.
5. Always express apology for mistakes: When you hurt people
through your words and actions, own up and say “I am sorry”.
Do not make excuses.
6. Avoid being judgmental: Don't form an opinion, criticize or
pass a wrong sentence on someone.
7. Always forgive: Do not hold grudges toward anyone or
retaliate wrong done.
8. Be affectionate: Show affection to people around you,
especially to your family.
9. Be courteous: Be polite in your gesture, remark and
behaviour. Avoid being too stiff.
10. Be humble: Don't be arrogant, look down on anybody or
belittle others.
11. Be generous with the words: 'thank you', 'you're welcome'
and 'please'; and don't fake it, be real with your compliments.
12. Avoid abusive language: Never name call or disparage

others. If you don't watch your mouth, it can turn off anyone,
or worse, hurt their feelings.
13. Run away from gossips: If you don't really get this, imagine
the person being present with you when you feel the urge to
gossip (idle talk about someone's private or personal matters)
about him or her.
14. Keep your promise: Honor commitments. By keeping your
word, you are showing the other person that you value and
respect them.
15. Respect time: Always be on time. Don't waste others' time.
Not being late for appointments, getting to the point fast, not
talking and wasting time about useless topics– all show
people that you respect their time.
16. Listen actively in a conversation: Don't butt in, speak over or
cut off another person. You love when others listen to you, so
you should do the same. Put down your phone when you are
in conversation with someone. Show them they are
important by listening to them.
17. Encourage others: If someone is having a bad day, your smile,
words of advice and care will go a long way in lifting the
person up.
18. Be mindful of the tone and expression of your voice:
Sarcasm or harshness is often interpreted as contempt.
Always be respectful when discussing things with others.

ejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, rejoice (Philip
4:4).

I've never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful (Unknown).
You want to always look beautiful? Then don't forget to put on a
smile. Your smile is one of the first things people see when they meet
you, and is an obvious way to display pleasure and joy.
A smile is a simple gesture of emotion that captures all kinds of
feelings: happiness, joy excitement, pleasure, amusement, etc.

You may spend minutes in front of your mirror trying to look your best,
but if you walk away without applying a smile on, you're not yet done.
Like Martin Charnin said, “you're never fully dressed without a smile.”
If you've got Secret 1 to 5 and leave off Secret 6 (smiling), your beauty
treat is not yet complete. Not just that; your smile is a reflection of
Secrets 1-5. That's why I said – Your smile says it all.

Let's go over the secrets so I'll explain why…

Secret 1: Build a Love Relationship with the Author of Beauty
God is the giver of true joy; hence if He lives in you, His joy will flow
from within you and reflect through your smile. You can't be moving
around with a gloomy face always and claim to be in a relationship
with the giver of joy. No way!

Secret 2: Eat Body Building and Skin Nourishing Food
Many natural foods (like fruits and vegetables) contain various
components which not only nourish and beautify our body, but also
improve your mood. Example, Bananas and Avocadoes contain an
amino acid, tryptophan, which is a precursor of the “feel good”
hormone – serotonin. On the other hand, people who eat high-fat
food, processed meals and sugary snacks are almost two-thirds more
likely to suffer from depression than those who choose fruit,
vegetable and fish, a report from University College London, states.

Secret 3: Adorn Yourself in Modesty

When modesty is your watchword, it brings joy and satisfaction
because – (a) Your life is pleasing to God. (b) You are not under
pressure to meet up with the beauty standard of the world often
displayed in immodest attire.

Secret 4: Unleash the Gifts in You Confidently

When you wear a big smile, it shows contentment, positivity,
happiness, and that you have a good view of yourself.

Secret 5: Treat People with Care and Respect

When you treat people with care and respect, it makes them happy
and consequently put a smile on their faces. Like the saying goes,
“smile is contagious”; you simply can't help it than to smile along, and

keep smiling….

When the day seems bad…

You know, at times, life could really slap one on the face, making it
difficult for one to smile on such days. But you know what to do dear
friend: sit quietly, take a deep breath and prayerfully cast you mind off
the problem, and then meditate on God's word and the good things
He's been doing for you. Then rise up, pick up that smile and wear it
on.
It may not be as easy as it sounds. I perfectly understand; but just do it
anyway. You'll feel much better. Even science has shown that pasting a
smile on your face helps boost your mood, increase happiness and
lower stress.
But as a Christian, let it not just be the “fake it till you make it” thing.
Let the joy of the Lord be your strength.

Keep smiling!

CONCLUSION

In the words of Carolyn Mahaney, “Our culture defines beauty by

how we look on the outside. God defines beauty by how we look on
the inside. Our culture puts forth a standard of beauty that is
unattainable by most. God puts forth a standard of beauty to which we
can all attain if we but surrender to His work of grace in our lives. Our
culture encourages women to cultivate a beauty that's skin deep. God
tells us to pursue an inner beauty of great worth. Our culture
encourages women to cultivate a beauty that will last for a brief time.
God encourages women to cultivate a beauty that will never fade and
that will only grow more attractive with the passing of time. Our
culture calls us to cultivate a beauty that impresses others. God
summons us to cultivate a beauty that is first and foremost for His
eyes. Our culture entices us to aspire to the beauty of the latest
glamorous model or this season's most popular actress. God bids us to
aspire to the beauty of the holy women in the past who put their hope
in God.”

Which beauty are you craving to cultivate? True beauty that reflects
from inside out or the world's trendy beauty that focuses just on the
outward appearance?

ABOUT AUTHOR

H i! I'm Chiamaka Oji, a child of God, and a lover of His word,

music, my family (spiritual and biological), health, people
(special interest in young women), and a lot more.

For some years now, I've been on this trip to explore what true
femininity is all about, contrary to how the world defines it. Studying
God's word (the bible), reading, watching and listening to various
materials, as well as working with young people has really been
enlightening and exposing.

The ride has been exciting, and God has been faithfully teaching me
what His design for femininity is, and by His grace, I seek to live it out.

But also, I'm really eager to share them with other young women so
we'll take this walk for biblical femininity together.

I hope you'll join me in this radiant walk with Him.
