GUIDELINES FOR RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP

1. The research Assistantship is done after completing RS 1 and RS 2.

2. Students are required to assist a PhD professor or practitioner in any field who is
undergoing a research in line with or related to the student’s own topic of interest
or research methodology. This gives the student an opportunity to extract ideas
and plan of work for their own dissertation

3. Areas for assistantship/area of substantial participation as research assistant


a. Search for related literatures
b. Data gathering
c. Data management/consolidating research ideas/information
d. Analysis and interpretation

4. The student must enrol in Research Assistantship 1 in the first term before
enrolling in Research Assistantship 2 in the next semester. A written report
describing the research participation of the student and certified by the PhD
researcher with supporting attachment must be submitted to the GPC before
given credit to the course.

5. Requirements:
a. Acceptance letter from a PhD researcher specifying expected participation of
the student (nature of work, duration)

b. Written Report that include:


1. Diary of activities describing research participation.

2. Synthesis Paper:
i. Contains a systematic review of literatures on the research phase
equipping the student to the role
ii. Reflects contribution of the student to the research and how the
systematic review was integrated in the research participation

6. Grading per course:


Relevance of involvement 20
Quality of participation 40
Synthesis Paper 40

At the end of each term, the student shall accomplish a consultation form
(ANNEX “3”- Phd Research Assistantship/Seminar Consultation Form) which shall be
submitted to the accounting office for purposes of remuneration for the supervisor.

Greetings!!!

This is to endorse Raymund Christopher R. dela Peña, a candidate for the degree, Doctor of
Philosophy in Nursing, to serve as research assistant in an on-going research by a PhD holder.
This is in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the course – Research Assistantship 1.

Mr. dela Peña can be of assistance in the following research phases:


1. search for related literatures
2. data gathering
3. data management/consolidating research ideas/information
4. analysis and interpretation

It is expected that Mr. dela Peña will have to render a total of 102 hours for the research
assistantship courses, 51 hours each for research assistantship 1 and 2. An acceptance letter from
the PHD researcher specifying expected participation of the student is required. The student is
expected to submit a synthesis paper on the research participation after the 51 hours rendered for
each course.
