COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides a study on a body of mythological and folk narratives from different countries
to gain deeper insights into “man’s origin”, his desires, his fears, his instincts, and his needs, in general
and the different cultural patterns of countries, in particular.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
1. Read and interpret myths that left significant marks in their respective cultures they belong.
2. Formulate logical conclusions about life from the selected literary pieces read.
3. Appreciate similarities, differences in the beliefs, ideas, attitudes and values of people from the
oral and written literary pieces taken.
4. Express relevant and sound opinions about literary pieces in relation to national and international
problem and issues.

absent, it is your responsibility to get information, from your classmates or directly from
the instructor, about the previous lesson. Remarkable absences will be dealt accordingly.
Warning for FA (see Students’ Handbook for FA) will be reported immediately to your dean.
2. TARDINESS. You only have a grace period of 15 minutes. If you come later than that, you’ll be
marked absent, and therefore will be added to you accumulated absences. You may still enter
the classroom and participate during discussion and activities.
3. CHAT (Consultation Hours and Tutorial)
Students who have been absent with valid excuse and those with low academic performance are
entitled for a CHAT. The schedule for CHAT will be agreed upon by the student and the instructor.
Failing to attend CHAT for the 3rd time will result to a failing grade for the missed quizzes and
activities.
4. TAKING QUIZZES. Only those who have valid excuses for their absences may take special
quizzes. No retake of quiz will be allowed, even during CHAT. No quiz notebook-no quiz policy
will be strictly implemented.
5. USE OF GADGETS
If you can’t avoid bringing your gadgets inside the classroom, make sure that they are turned off
before the start of the class. Cell phones may be set in vibration mode for emergency
calls/messages. Calls should be answered outside the classroom to avoid the disruption of the
discussion, but make sure to call the attention of your instructor before going out. Minimize the
use of your cell phones generally.
6. GOING IN/OUT OF THE ROOM. All are prohibited to go in and out of the room once the class
starts without the permission of the instructor. Once you go out without instructor’s approval,
consider yourself absent and you may not enter the room anymore during the duration of your
class. This is to avoid any distraction of class.
7. ENGLISH ONLY POLICY. Since you are taking an English subject, you are all required to use
English during discussion and classroom activities. Participating using Filipino or other language
will have no merit in your performance.
8. SUBMISSION OF OUTPUTS. Pass your outputs on time, which is on or before the deadline. Late
outputs will still be accepted but will be graded automatically with 75% or below depending on the
quality of work.
