SPELLING PLACEMENT TEST – Manual Administration
Directions:
1. Print out the included Spelling Test Paper for your students.
2. Prepare students with pencil/pen and testing paper.
3. We provide a large word list but you do not need to administrator
all 77 words. Start your students two grades below their current
grade year. For example, if your students are in 4th grade, you
should start with the 2nd grade list, word #6. Your students should
start writing their 1st answer on the same line number you start
with, in this example word #6. This will help with grading at the end
of the test. Encourage student to put down their pencils when they
feel the words are too challenging. Stop the test when all pencils
are down.
4. Administer the test by repeating the below steps for each word:
a) Say word loudly, clearly and slowly.
b) Pause
c) Use the word in the sentence provided.
d) Say "SPELL"
e) Repeat the word one last time.
5. After all pencils are down, collect the tests, grade papers by
circling the 1st incorrect word on each paper. Review our
Placement Chart at the bottom of the page for grade level.
