City of Naga

The city of Naga is known as the industrial city of the South. Its population as determined
is 115,750 people. With its enourmous cement factory, electric power plants and many other
industries located in the city, there is no doubt why the city of Naga is called as the Industrial City
of the South.

Naga City is bordered to the north by the town of Minglanilla, to the west is the city of
Toledo, to the east is the Cebu Strait, and to the south is the town of San Fernando. It lies within
the Cebu metropolitan area.

It is one of the two Philippine cities named Naga, the other being Naga City in Camarines
Sur. As such, the city is often confused by visitors coming primarily from Luzon and other parts
of the country not near to Central Visayas with the city in Camarines Sur.

The main reason why we chose Naga, Cebu is that the tragic happened last September
,where many people lost their lives ,trapped inside their houses that were not survive during the
rescue.

DEMOGRAPHICS

Historical Growth of Population/Population Trend

The total population of Naga City as of August 1, 2007 was 160,516 persons, higher by
22,706 persons over the 2000 Census of Population results.
This translated to an average annual population growth rate of 2.35%, 0.70 percentage
higher than that of the 1995 to 2000 period. If said rate continues over the years, the population
is expected to reach the 200,000 mark in 2017 and double in 24 years.

Economy

Among the industries in Naga are the Apo Cement Corporation, the largest factory in the country,
producing 4,000 metric tons (3,900 long tons) per day; FSP Group; the 290-megawatt KEPCO Philippines
Corporation power plant; MRC Allied Industries; Kyocera Kinseki Philippines, Inc.; Pryce Gases, Inc.; Rikio
Southeast Asia; and the 147-megawatt coal-fired Salcon Power Corporation plant.

Cityhood

During the 11th Congress (1998–2001), Congress enacted into law 33 bills converting 33
municipalities into cities. However, Congress did not act on a further 24 bills converting 24 other
municipalities into cities.

During the 12th Congress (2001–2004), Congress enacted into law Republic Act No. 9009
(RA 9009), which took effect on 30 June 2001. RA 9009 amended Section 450 of the Local
Government Code by increasing the annual income requirement for conversion of a municipality
into a city from ₱20 million to ₱100 million. The rationale for the amendment was to restrain, in
the words of Senator Aquilino Pimentel, "the mad rush" of municipalities to convert into cities
solely to secure a larger share in the Internal Revenue Allotment despite the fact that they are
incapable of fiscal independence.

Barangay Poblacion

In Barangay Poblacion, we can locate a public beach named Larawan Public Beach Resort. When
we hear the word beach, we would think of something relaxing, chill, or vacation, but this is not what you
would think of Larawan Public Beach Resort due to its dirty seashore that was consumed by garbage and
waste that are not biodegradable.

One of the reasons why we chose this barangay is because we believed that we should not just
waste the environmental and economic assets in this place just because of the garbage that was thrown
irresponsibly.

Barangay Mactan

Being one of the major tourist islands of Cebu, Mactan Island boasts of a diverse collection of
tourist spots and attractions.

Some of the restaurants near the coast of the Mactan beach are both having environment and
financial crisis, due to the polluted sea that cause the disturbance of the costumer, also people
cannot get the seafood in the sea, instead they would go to the market which is a 1 kilometer
drive that cost them the transportation fee.

The reason why we chose Mactan is to encourage the residents that they should have greater
awareness of their environment and make an action to avoid the decrease of economic growth.
