Distinguished Speakers, Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen,

My warm welcome and ‘Selamat Datang’ to everyone! Thank you, for joining us at the
2019 MALAYSIA-CHINA Conjoint Conference of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
I would like to express my compliments to all academic colleagues, support staffs and
administrative authorities participating in this conference and share with you my deep
satisfaction for being able to share this important moment for the development of Oral
Maxillofacial specialty.

To our eminent speakers, the delegates and all participants who have come from all
over Asia, I am greatly honoured and pleased to welcome you to Kuala Lumpur. On
behalf of the UKM team, we are indeed honoured to have you here with us.

We have about 200 participants and speakers from 6 countries gathered here today,
making our conference a truly Asian initiative. I welcome my fellow colleagues from
Peking University School of Stomatology who have also honoured us with their
presence.

The 2019 MALAYSIA-CHINA Conjoint Conference of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a


collaboration between National University of Malaysia (UKM) and Peking University
School of Stomatology (PKUSS) which began in 2017 with PKUSS hosting our first ever
conference in Beijing back in August 2017.

I hope this conference will open opportunities to establish new scientific and
professional bridges, provides you with a forum to exchange scientific ideas, inspire
new research, and new contacts for closer co-operation, so that we can, together,
navigate the future of a promising development of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Prof. Guang-Yang Yu
PRESIDENT, CHINESE STOMATOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION

Professor Yu is the current President, Chinese Stomatological Association.


He graduated from Zhejiang Medical University
in 1979. Professor Yu furthered his study in
Beijing Medical University, where he received a
Master of Science degree in 1982 and a PhD
degree in 1987.
While staying on as a faculty member at
Peking University School of Stomatology, he
then joined the Institute of Pathology,
University of Hamburg, Germany as a
visiting scholar in 1990 and later spent six
months in the Royal of Surgeons in 1995.
He was promoted to professorship in the
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery in 1992, and became doctoral
supervisor, the highest level of China, in
1995.
Aside from his clinical and academic involvement, Professor Yu held various
positions in many professional organizations, including Vice President of the
Chinese Stomatological Association, Chairman of the Chinese Society of Oral
& Maxillofacial Surgery, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society for Head and
Neck Tumor Surgery, and Advisor of the Division of Salivary Gland Diseases in
Chinese Society of Oral Surgery. He is also the editor-in-chief of the of Journal
of Modern Stomatology, and is on the editorial board of more than 10 domestic
and international professional Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (in
Chinese), Journal of Peking University (Medical Sciences), China Journal of
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and Journal of Dental Research.
His research interests include oral and maxillofacial oncology, diseases of
salivary glands, the diagnosis and treatment of trauma of facial nerve, and
autologous transfer of submandibular glands for severe keratoconjunctivitis
sicca.

Assoc Prof Dr Nazimi Abd Jabar


UNIVERSITI KEBANGSAAN MALAYSIA

Dr Nazimi is currently an Associate Professor and a consultant oral and


maxillofacial surgeon in UKM with special interest in orbital and computer-
assisted oral and maxillofacial surgery.
He graduated with BDS from the University of Malaya and subsequently
.
completed his postgraduate degrees from University College London and returned
to Malaysia in 2006, where he UKM till today.
He is a member of Royal College of Surgeon of England and various reputable
international oral and maxillofacial associations.

In UKM, he was a pioneer for the


start and in complex surgical
conditions - to combine the use of
cutting edge maxillofacial surgical
technology such as 3D-printing,
computer assisted
pre-surgical planning, maxillofacial
navigation surgery and computed
tomography scan for orbital
traumatology.
At present, UKM is the only
institution in Malaysia utilizes
computer-assisted and
orbital navigation techniques on a
regular basis, working in close
relation with industrial partners such
as Brainlab, Depuy Synthes, 3D Gen
and Peking University School of
Stomatology as collaborating
institution. Dr Nazimi has
published more 70 research article
and conference publications both in
local and international journals.

Prof Hongphing Zhu

STOMATOLOGY, BEIJING

Dr. Hongping Zhu, DDS, MD, PhD. The associate professor of the Dept of
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Peking University School of Stomatology,
mainly focuses on surgical treatment of cleft lip and palate, as well as other
various craniofacial malformation. Being an assistant professor, ever visited
in the Cleft palate Center of Univerisity of Pittsburgh from 2000 to 2001. He
has published more than 30 academic papers and participated in the
compilation or translation of 7 scholarly monographs.

He has won the second prize of


Beijing Science and Technology
Progress and the third prize of
Ministry of Health Science and
Technology Progress. He
is now a member of the
American Craniofacial-Palate
Association, the Secretary of the
Medical Expert Group of the
American Smile Train Cleft Lip
and Palate Repair Charity

Dr. Rifqah Nordin


HEAD, CENTRE FOR ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY,
UNIVERSITI KEBANGSAAN MALAYSIA

Dr Rifqah Nordin graduated from the National University of Malaysia as the


pioneer batch. Completed her specialist training in 2008 from Eastman
Dental Institute with Distinction.

She is currently the Chairman of Centre for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery,
Faculty of Dentistry UKM.

She does a little bit of everything


but always put 100%
commitment in everything she
does. While she figures out what
her real interest and passion
really is, she does a bit of TMD,
trauma and cleft. She has
published in international
journals and involved in various
high impact research.
She is an active member of the
UKM Dental Alumni association
in which she is the treasurer.
She has previously served as
committee in the MAOMS.

Dr. Asri Arumsari

DR HASAN SADIKIN HOSPITAL, BANDUNG, INDONESIA

Dr. Asri graduated from Pajajaran University Indonesia.

She is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with special interest in congenital


surgery, especially cleft and distraction osteogenesis. She was the Program
Director of the Cleft Lip and Palate Fellowship of the International
Association of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons from 2010 to 2014. Currently, she is the Head of the Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Dr Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung-
Indonesia.

Ms Sharmini graduated from the University of Sheffield with a Law degree.


She started her career handling claims under the Malaysian Bar
Professional Indemnity Scheme from 2008 to 2012.

Ms Sharmini was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2013 and practiced as a


lawyer in the firm of Ranjit Ooi & Robert Low.

After 4 years of being in practice, Sharmini’s interest in handling


professional indemnity claims led her to join Jardine Lloyd Thompson Sdn
Bhd in 2017, handling various claims in the healthcare sector relating to both
doctors and hospitals.

Prof Nabil Samman


DEPARTMENT OF ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY,
PRINCE OF SONGKLA UNIVERSITY, THAILAND

Prof Nabil Samman qualified in Medicine from University of Leicester, UK


and in Dentistry from Sydney, Australia. He is a surgical Fellow of the Royal
College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and dental Fellow of the Royal College of
Surgeon of England. He received his Honorary Doctorate from Prince of
Songkhla University, Thailand. He is also a Distinguished Fellow of
International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon as well as an
Honorary Fellow of Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgeon. Prof Samman is a well-known figure in the field of
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He was the Past President of IAOMS,
AAOMS and was the former Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
University of Hong Kong (2002-2017) as well as the Chief of Service,
Maxillofacial Unit, Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong (2007-2017).
Currently, he is a Professor of Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgery at Prince
Songkhla Univeristy Thailand and
runs his own private specialist
practice in Hong Kong. His
expertise is sought after in many
universities where he holds an
Honorary Professor/Consultant
posts in Queen Mary Hospital, Hong
Kong; Peking University, Beijing
China; Shanghai Jiaotong
University, Shanghai China, Prince
of Songkhla University, Hatyai
Thailand and Children’s Surgical
Centre, Phnom Penh Cambodia.
Prof Samman's versatile portfolio
included the
Editor-in-Chief, International
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery.
He has more than 120 scientific publications to his name and has given over 180
lectures worldwide.

Prof Zhang Yi
HEAD, DEPARTMENT OF ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY,
PEKING UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF STOMATOLOGY, BEIJING,

Professor Zhang graduated from the Department of Stomatology of Beijing Medical


College with a bachelor’s degree in 1984; graduated from School of Stomatology of Beijing
Medical University with a doctor’s degree in 1990. Furthered studies in the University
of Bern in Switzerland, Asahi University of Japan and University College London
of U.K. in 1990, 1994 and 2004 respectively. From 1994 till now, he served as the resident
surgeon (1984-1986), attending surgeon (1991-1992), associate chief surgeon (1993-1998),
associate professor (1993-1998), chief surgeon (1998- ) and professor (2000- ) in the
Department of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery in School of Stomatology, Peking University.

At present, he serves as the Professor and Chair of


Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,
Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma Center,
School and Hospital of Stomatology, Peking
University. Social part-time service: AO
Foundation trustee and AO CMF International
faculty. A standing member, Co-Deputy chief in
Division of CMF Trauma, Co-Deputy chief in
Division of TMJ Surgery, of Committee of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery of Chinese Stomatological

Professor Zhang’s clinical and research interests involve oral and maxillofacial trauma
and tumor. His surgical expertise includes cranio-maxillo-facial fracture, surgery of facial
deformity and reconstruction of bone defects, surgical management of TMJ ankylosis and
joint reconstruction, computer-assisted technique and application. He has published 137
papers in the international and domestic publications, edited 5 treatises and participated
in the editing of 16 treatises.

Prof Thongchai Nuntaranont


DEPARTMENT OF ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY,
PRINCE OF SONGKLA UNIVERSITY, THAILAND

Professor Thongchai Nuntantanaranont graduated from Chulanlongkorn


University for DDS in 1985 and Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
training in 1987. He
obtained his MD degree from Prince of Songkla University in 1995. He got his
Diplomat Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Thai Dental Royal
Council in 1998 and MSc in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Prince of
Songkla in the year 2000.

Professor Thongchai now is the staff


in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Department, Faculty of Dentistry,
Prince of Songkla University (PSU),
Thailand. He is the director of Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency
training of Faculty of Dentistry PSU.
He is also the associate editor of Thai
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery and abstract editor of
International Journal of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery.
His current field of interest and
research are focused on dentofacial
deformities, cleft lip and cleft palate,
distraction osteogenesis, stem cell,
bone tissue engineering, biomedical
scaffold and bone substitute
material.

Prof Dr Xiao-Xia Wang


DEPARTMENT OF ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY,
PEKING UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF STOMATOLOGY, BEIJING,

Dr. Xiao-Xia Wang is the clinical professor of Oral and


Maxillofacial Surgery in Peking University School and
Hospital of Stomatology. She is the committee member
of Chinese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
(CSOMS, international faculty of AOCMF, and member
of IAOMS and AAOMS.

She got her DDS in 1993 at


Shandong University and
her PhD in 2001 at Peking
University. She has studied
as visiting scholar in the
Institute of Reconstructive
Plastic Surgery, New York
University Medical Center
from 2007 to 2008. She has
over 19 years of clinical
experience in orthognathic
surgery, and has done many
research works on jaw
distraction osteogenesis,
bony healing, presurgical
virtual planning and
surgical navigation.

Professor Dato’ Dr. Zainal Ariff


Abdul Rahman is currently the Dean and Senior Consultant in
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti of
Malaya. He received his surgical training from Eastman Dental
Institute, London; Mount Vernon Hospital Northwood, London;
National Maxillofacial Unit, St. James Hospital, Dublin, Ireland;
and East Lancashire Maxillofacial Service, Blackburn Royal
Infirmary, Bolton Road, Blackburn, Lancashire, United Kingdom.

His main clinical and research interests


are oral cancer and craniofacial
deformity. Professor Dato’ Dr.
Zainal has published more than 60
papers in various ISI and other indexed
journals. He is the Regional Adviser for
Royal College of Surgeons of England,
Councillor and Honorary Life Member of
Eastman Academy International
Chapter, International Faculty for AO
(Association of Internal Fixation)
International, Davos, Switzerland and
was the Councillor International
Association of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons between 2007-2011.

Dr Raymond Wong
NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CENTRE
FOR ORAL HEALTH, NATIONAL UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AND
NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE

Dr Raymond Wong currently holds the post of Assistant


Professor and Senior Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the
National University, Singapore (NUS) and Centre for Oral Health,
National University Hospital Singapore. He is also a member of the
Specialist Training Committee in Singapore. He graduated in University
of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in 1997 and was awarded the University
Entrance Scholarship together with Book Prize for Excellence in the
First, Second and Final Professional Examination. He is also the
recipient of the Association for South East Asian Nation Scholarship
Award in which he pursued his postgraduate training in OMFS and
graduated with MDS(OMFS) from National University of Singapore in
2003.
He has served as Specialist Registrar in
OMFS at the Sunderland Royal Hospital,
England and Clinical Fellow, Hospital
Swansea, Wales from 2007-2008. He was also
awarded the Health Manpower Development
Programme to the UK for Advanced
Orthognathic Surgery training. He
completed his PhD (Medical Sciences) from
Radbound University Nijmigen, the
Netherlands in 2011 under the supervision of
the late Emeritus Professor Hank Tideman,
Professor Matthias Merkx and John Jansen.
His experiences spans as the Immediate
Past President, Association of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgeon Singapore; Executive
Council Member and Councillor-at-large,
Asian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeon; Editorial Board, Journal of Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgery, Medicine and
Pathology; Asia Pacific Regional Faculty,
AOCMF; and the Organizing Chairman for
the upcoming ACOMS 2020 in Singapore.

Dr Roselinda Abdul Rahman


SCHOOL OF DENTAL SCIENCES,
UNIVERSITI SAINS MALAYSIA, MALAYSIA

I am an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and a clinical lecturer at


Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.
I’ve obtained my bachelor of dental surgery from University of
Malaya in 1996 and started my career as a dental officer in
Terengganu.
During my posting, I’ve developed
my interest in oral and maxillofacial
surgery. In 1999, I’ve joined
Universiti Sains Malaysia
as a trainee lecturer and pursue the
postgraduate study in University of
Malaya. My main clinical interest is
on the role of computer-assisted
surgery in the maxillofacial region
especially in the 3D printing and the
surgical-assisted navigation
technique. My research area
includes oral health casemix system
as well as the genetics in orofacial
clefts.

Prof Peng Xin


DEPARTMENT OF ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY,
PEKING UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF STOMATOLOGY, BEIJING,

Prof Peng Xin wears many hats. He is the Vice Director, Department
of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Peking University School of
Stomatology; Honorary Professor at the University of Hong Kong and
Visiting Professor at the Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. At
present, he is also an Adjunct Professor at The National University
of Malaysia (UKM) since 2017 where he is actively involved in our
postgraduate training in OMFS. Under his guidance, the OMFS UKM
team has pioneered the navigation assisted reconstruction surgery in
Malaysia.

His research interests include


head and neck oncology,
reconstruction of head and neck
defects and diseases of salivary
glands with over 190 publications
and numerous research grants to
his credit. His expertise has lead
him to be appointed as Member of
Committee of Experts, National
Medical Examination Centre in
China as well as Member of
AOCMF Asia Pacific Board. He is
also an active Member of Chinese
Society of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery, Member of Chinese
Society of Digital Stomatology,

Dr. Soh Hui Yoh


DEPARTMENT OF ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY,

Dr Soh Hui Yuh received her dental degree from Universiti


Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2013. She obtained the Membership of the
Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) from the Royal College of
Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2017. She is currently pursuing her
master degree at Peking University School of Stomatology. She is
a trainee lecturer of Centre for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her main research interest
includes oral oncology, reconstruction of head and neck defects
and computer-assisted craniomaxillofacial reconstruction.
