Responsibilities:
• To design the research experiments on Biodiesel

Vegetable Oil & Fatty Acid Distillate & analyze all the properties of Biodiesel to
meet ASTM D 6751 and EN 14214 specifications at Lab scale as well as Pilot
Plant scale
• Looking after the activity for Mechanical Extraction from different seeds like
Jatropha, Karanja and their Biodiesel Preparation for Property study
• Laboratory Development in Project Stage, SOPs. and other documentations
• Actively involved in Biodiesel Plant pre-commissioning stage for QC support
• Involved with the Marketing Team for Biodiesel marketing to support as
Technical person.

• To carry out the research work on the Biodiesel process optimization as well
as production of Biodiesel on Pilot plant scale for IC Engine testing purpose

Flash Point, Cloud Point, Pour Point and Kinematic Viscosity, Acid number,
Free fatty acid, Total Glycerin and Free Glycerin content etc.

Key Accomplishments:
• Process developed for manufacture of “EN 14214 specification Biodiesel” from
“Beef Tallow” on the basis of experiments
• Involved in study of the engine performance and emission characteristics of
Diesel Engine operated on Biodiesel (B-5 & B-10) compared with Petrodiesel.

PROJECT ASSISTANT (05/03/04 to 12/01/07)

Responsibilities:
• To carry out the research work on the various products of the concerned
sponsored projects of the well-known Indian as well as multinational
companies.
• Process Development and Process Optimization of Biodiesel process
• To lead Infrastructure and manage Process Design & Engineering Cell R & D
with analytical method development activities.
• To work out new research experiments and technologies/methods in
laboratory scale to pilot plant scale in conjunction with other research
scientists.

Key Accomplishments:
• Process for manufacture of “EN 14214 specification Biodiesel” from “Jatropha
Curcus” was developed and optimized on the basis of experiments. The same
process was implemented for manufacture of EN 14214 specification Biodiesel
from other edible & non edible feed stocks (Waste Cooking Oil, Soya bean Oil,
Palm Oil, Sunflower Oil, Coconut Oil, etc.). I was also analyzing the raw
material as well as refined products and byproducts as a part of our project
sponsored by Daimler Chrysler, Germany.

• Process for manufacture of “EN 14214 specification Biodiesel” was converted


into continuous process from the batch process.
• Process for recovery of refined Glycerin and Potassium Hydroxide from crude
glycerin was improved.
• 29000 liters of quality Biodiesel was produced from different sources of oils
(Jatropha methyl ester: 28000 lit, Waste vegetable oil methyl ester: 800 lit,
Soya methyl ester: 200 lit)

Achievements:
• US Patent No. 2006/0080891 A1, Process for the preparation of fatty acid
methyl ester from triglyceride oil by transesterification (Ghosh et al)
• PCT Patent No. WO 2006/043281 A1, Process for the preparation of fatty acid
methyl ester from triglyceride oil by transesterification (Ghosh et al)
• Team got “Daimler Chrysler Environment Leadership Award 2005” for our
innovative and environmental friendly work on Biodiesel technology.
• Team got “Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Award” for the year of 2006-07 for the
process development work on Biodiesel from Jatropha oil.
• The first Biodiesel plant (750 Liters/Day) based on our technology is
designed, installed and commissioned.

VISITING LECTURER (15/08/05 to 17/01/07)

I have worked as Visiting Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry at Department of


Chemistry, Bhavnagar University, Bhavnagar. During the course of work I have
taken lectures on Group Theory, Quantum Chemistry and Coordination Chemistry.
The main topics of Group theory are symmetry and its application to simple
molecules. While the main topics of Coordination Chemistry are Metal Carbonyls,
Organometallic Compounds, Metal Clusters and its Reaction mechanism with
stereochemistry of Coordination compounds.
